When I began covering the Natalee Holloway disappearance, it was out of concern that such cases often go unresolved. It was obvious from the start that learning the truth of what happened to Natalee was going to be a challenge. I wanted to help.
Without truth, there can be no justice. And like many people, it concerns me when faced with events in the world that lack truth and, ultimately, justice.
Now, looking back over a year later - I and obviously many others are precisely where I feared we would end up - lacking truth and justice.
The only positive thought I can take away from that is this ... perhaps it is the absence of justice which most drives man to seek freedom. And so that is all that remains to be sought, for now. That ... and the hope, wish, prayer - call it what you will, that Natalee Holloway also has, or will find freedom.
After all, in the end, according to her, it is what she most sought.
