Mr. Tyrrell notes that there is a clique inside the conservative movement -- and here he quotes James Piereson, formerly of the John M. Olin Foundation -- who "try to establish their bona fides by attacking other conservatives, which will make them well-liked by Liberals, which is the point."
The latest one of these types to appear on the scene is Conor Friedersdorf over at that well-known non-conservative publication the Atlantic.
JIM TREACHER: Charlie Crist Grovels To . . . David Byrne? Grovel-video at the link. But Treacher catches Byrne out, too. Don’t mess with the Treach.
They got Crist cold. Why make him say that (he doesn't license his songs for ads) on top of it, when it’s so easily disproven?
Byrne engaged the point on his blog back in 5/25/2010. Treacher's examples are from a movie and a TV show. Unless any contract specifically excluded using scenes with his music in them for any subsequent ads derived from the whole work, it would seem he doesn't license them in the manner Treacher asserts.
The general public might also think I simply license the use of my songs to anyone who will pay the going rate, but that’s not true either, as I have never licensed a song for use in an ad. I do license songs to commercial films and TV shows (if they pay the going rate), and to dance companies and student filmmakers mostly for free. But not to ads.
I haven't seen Margie, now Margie Russomanno Schunk in years and didn't realize what type of music she was performing today. Some of my readers might enjoy it.

A bit of deeper analysis here tells you all you need to know about Krauthammer's brand of conservatism. John McCain is his type of conservative. And many of his ilk had no problem at all backing Obama, so deep runs their, ahem, dedication to a principled conservatism. Oh, where have you gone Charles Krauthammer, perhaps the nation needs a war to help you find your conservatism, again. koo koo ka choo ...
Contrarian that I am, I'm voting for John McCain. I'm not talking about bucking the polls or the media consensus that it's over before it's over. I'm talking about bucking the rush of wet-fingered conservatives leaping to Barack Obama before they're left out in the cold without a single state dinner for the next four years.
I stand athwart the rush of conservative ship-jumpers of every stripe -- neo (Ken Adelman), moderate (Colin Powell), genetic/ironic (Christopher Buckley) and socialist/atheist (Christopher Hitchens) -- yelling "Stop!" I shall have no part of this motley crew. I will go down with the McCain ship. I'd rather lose an election than lose my bearings.
First, I'll have no truck with the phony case ginned up to rationalize voting for the most liberal and inexperienced presidential nominee in living memory. The "erratic" temperament issue, for example. As if McCain's risky and unsuccessful but in no way irrational attempt to tactically maneuver his way through the economic tsunami that came crashing down a month ago renders unfit for office a man who demonstrated the most admirable equanimity and courage in the face of unimaginable pressures as a prisoner of war, and who later steadily navigated innumerable challenges and setbacks, not the least of which was the collapse of his campaign just a year ago.
Obama now blames poor job numbers on congressional inaction. Wait! His party runs Congress
According to the president, he's been "adamant" with Congress for months now about a new jobs bill to help small businesses. Obama says this really good bill is stalled in the Senate, where so much administration legislation has been crammed through so effectively by Majority Leader Harry Reid.
This is as good a time as any for a music break. Besides, it's Friday! Party on. Or, cry, if you're a Democrat.
Ack! The Beatles video below breaks one of my cardinal rules of music blogging, no matter how good the tune. In general, they're over-played and this one actually made it into a commercial.
As for Duane Lester suggesting there's been a revolution going on for years, I disagree. As often happens with technology, people confuse evolution with revolution. All the revolution talk from the Left has always, if inadvertantly, been mostly cover for the evolutionary process they've actually used over the years - call it the Gramscian march, ... or whatever you wish - revolutionary it isn't.
Reversing it will either require a similar counter-evolution, or a genuine revolution in some form. The former is more likely than the latter. There are signs of it, but it's difficult for me to be optimistic. If it does happen, one would hardly notice it before some initial generation of evolutionaries had passed by. Is such a generation being raised today? I'm not sure.
The plain and simple truth is, we are already in the Second American Revolution. Statists from the late 1800s until today have been attacking the very foundations of America. They hate the concepts of individualism and capitalism.
CHICAGO (AP) -- Instruments used in Elvis Presley's autopsy and embalming are going up for auction in Chicago, including the "John Doe" toe tag used after the original was stolen amid the chaos at the hospital following his death.
Leslie Hindman Auctioneers will hold the auction Aug. 12, four days before the 33rd anniversary of Presley's death.
The auction house said Tuesday that all of the items used in the autopsy and funeral preparations will be available, from rubber gloves and forceps to a comb and eye liner. Even the coffin invoice and the hanger used to hold Presley's burial suit will be sold.
Ringo Starr doing a webcam interview with Diane Sawyer of ABC. The dude looks good for 70. Young at heart? That's my take away from it. Video at link.
The legendary Beatles drummer, now a grandfather, has hardly slowed down in his later years, in part, he says, thanks to healthy living.
"I don't take any drugs; I don't drink alcohol; I'm not shooting anything in my veins; life is good," said Starr, swearing that his only vices are too much working out and broccoli.
