Via Taegan Goddard's Political Wire. Bob Dole had written a letter to Rush Limbaugh in support of John McCain. Mitt Romney didn't seem to think very much of Bob Dole back then.

Nice catch!
It's good that Newt supporters are countering Mitt's poo flinging, but I hope Newt can go positive and anti-Obama tonight.

Wow. Bob Dole must really think Newt would be disastrous as the republican nominee.

Wow. "Mr. Viagra" must think we have a memory as selective as ljm's...!!!

Thanks for posting this.
All these NRO and hotair and blogger types. Newt was fighting liberals, fighting democrats, defending Reagan and voting for his agenda, building conservatism, recruiting and training hundreds of GOP candidates, leading the GOP to its biggest congressional victory of the century, taking down corrupt dems like Jim Wright, defeating RINO plays like Bush41's tax increase, etc...
He was doing all that and more before these guys even started shaving, or before they were born in some cases.
These attacks on Newt are disgusting. As Mark Levin said "If this is what the conservative movement has become, then count me out of it"
And notice the elite east coast connection among all the Newt bashers. they're all Ivy leaguers.
Coulter, Ingraham, Ponnuru, Lowry, etc...
I'm no huge fan of Newt's. But right now he's the only one out there fighting the establishment and the only oneout there who can beat them and stop Romney.
Note also how Romney describes McCain "the next in line, the inevitable choice, lets give it to him, and then it won't work". Remind you of anyone?
Keep up the good work

"Now, those of you who were not paying attention back then -- or who were too young to pay attention -- don't doubt me, it was vicious. And Reagan did not have a media on his side. It was the three networks and CNN and the newspapers. There was no talk radio. There were no blogs, of course. There wasn't the Internet. There was no alternative media. Reagan had National Review. That was his lone ally in the media, William Buckley's National Review. That was it.
.....And it's where I heard of Newt Gingrich. And Newt had appointed himself the personal defender of Ronald Reagan and had appointed himself the singular person with his buddies to counter all of what he thought were the lies of the day being spouted by the media and the Democrats."

The institutional rino and the Romneykhrishnas are on some bad kool-aid.
Alert Ken Kesey!!!

Oh man, Newt is wrong on immigration. Romney is lying, he is pro-amnesty, I don't care what his position is now. He doesn't have it in him to be strong on anything conservative.

“Newt Gingrich, if he does nothing else, did more for the conservative movement and to stop the liberal Democrats in the House of Representatives than virtually everybody today who is criticizing him!”
--Mark Levin

What was the problem with Santorum again?
Perhaps we should unite around him for Non-Rom?
Posted by: Ricky | Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 09:52 PM
No applaus for Calista, that was rather rude, IMO.
Posted by: Ricky | Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 09:53 PM
Newt and Santorum great answers re: faith.

Rubio has shown himself this week to be a Rombot. I don't understand why everybody is so impressed with him, anyway.

Mr Riehl is dying to know what I thought of the debate, so here I go:
Santorum - winner
Newt and Romney - some good and some not so good moments.
Ron Paul - now I love him, now I don't...

What's striking here is how negative Romney is in going after Dole.
The guy knows nothing but how to burn down bridges. Can you imagine a party led by this guy? It's unbelievable.
And yeah, it's amazing how Romney gets the 'support' of people who obviously do not support him. I guess the man plays that part of politics very well, but it's fake like everything Romney.

If this is the best the Republican establishment can come up with, it's time to start a third party now. If not, why will they ever have any reason to do anything different next time?

BR- Exactly. I am praying for a hero to step up and motivate the people.

"If not, why will they ever have any reason to do anything different next time? "
It's really sad that in 2012, which the deficit and Obamacare and Iran gaining nukes, that the GOP seems so unfocused. Our House is pathetic. Their senate and white house are largely unfazed.
The GOP is weak because it's run by Ivy league elites who NEED the beltway to continue ripping off the rest of the country. The opposition is a show. They NEED the government to stay huge and intrusive.
Rick Perry's plan to cut the sessions way back and force a balanced budget every year scared the bajesus out of them, and they destroyed him real fast. Of course. Michele Bachmann was the point man for that. Beltway careerist Michele who just broke her promise to hold herself to term limits, if I'm informed correctly.
They keep playing us for suckers.
Newt at least has the right instincts, but he has deviated and I'm not comfortable. I'm voting for Newt mainly because it's a vote against Romney.

Dustin, this is nothing more or less than human nature you bemoan. I get the bemoaning part, but it CAN'T be different until WE make it different.
Power acts according to known rules, and people act according to our nature. There is nothing new here; the Greeks knew about all of this long, long ago.
IF there is reform, it will have to come because enough of us insist on it. We can throw good people into the Machine of DC power, asking them to fix things, and it will grind them up and co-opt them OR spit them out because that is how power operates. There is nothing sinister or dark about it either. It is just humans, acting as we always have.
When we send people into that morass, we have to watch them, support them, correct them, and remove them if they betray the ideals of the Founding. There is no other choice.
The days of "Let Ike do it!" never existed, and we can't delude ourselves any longer.

"Dustin, this is nothing more or less than human nature you bemoan."
That's probably true.
But I'm still greatly annoyed at how we have reached such a sorry state fiscally. It's just math. They all knew what they were doing to this country. Very few ever really flipped out about it. Newt was flipping out about spending in 1983 to Ronald Reagan of all people.
"There is nothing sinister or dark about it either. It is just humans, acting as we always have."
I don't know if that's true. I think a lot of people from all political stripes are 'good men' who meant to do good, and found it a little easier to do good A at the expense of good B and compromised, naturally. Then there are those who are ruthless and mean to be.
But anyway, you're right that there won't be reform unless we make it politically beneficial to these ruthless guys to see reform. Make it politically mandatory.
None of this Norm Coleman 'oh of course we can't really repeal Obamacare, idiots! Romney might promise to on day two, but don't be silly.'
My frustration is from my belief it is impossible to make it politically beneficial to these sharks to seek reform cynically. It really will take true believers, putting the nation's interests ahead of their political future. The benefits of selling out are so great today.
But it wouldn't hurt to try, as a country, to demand a balanced budget amendment. It doesn't seem like we're going to do more than the Tea Party rallies, and that doesn't appear to be sufficient.
Posted by: Dustin | Friday, January 27, 2012 at 08:47 AM
I agree with a great deal of what you said. The TEA Party was a movement, and that will have to be translated into a force.
If we don't do it, it cannot happen. Nobody else will step into the breach.

That is why we need Sarah Palin. Time for everybody to seriously look at her RECORD! And kindly ask the lady to reconsider!
