One of the things fellow Republicans and political observers have never liked about Mitt Romney is the wholesome piety he exhibits on the stump, while his hacks and PACs engage in some of the ugliest politics around. He can flash that plastic smile and pretend all he wants, but people know the cold fish doesn't shy away from the politics of personal destruction. If anything, his campaigns embrace it more than most, while feigning ignorance and pretending otherwise himself.
This is why so many people in the GOP have come to dislike Mitt Romney.
Mitt Romney backer and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's comments this morning that Newt Gingrich "embarrassed" the Republican Party has the formerr House Speaker's Florida campaign co-chairman, Alan Levine, fuming.
"Far be it from me to tell the governor of New Jersey to focus on his own state, but this isn't a way to begin a campaign in Florida. It's disappointing," said Levine, a former healthcare chief under Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal who is new a private-sector hospital executive.
But now he's panicking because his South Carolina campaign has become a laughing stock. I've talked with some long-time operatives on the ground, in some cases, they've alienated more people than they've pulled in. There's also talk that his people in Florida are starting to panic, too.
Mitt Romney can use a legal facade to feign ignorance with his PAC problems. But he can't do that with his surrogates who come with faces and names. He could call, or call-out a Coulter, or Christie and ask them to stand down. But he won't. And even if he did, he wouldn't mean it.
His weak political skills are catching up to him. Unable to truly connect with voters, it now appears he's going to try and rely on some slash and burn surrogates to tear the other guy down.
It won't work. Ultimately, all this vitriol is going to circle back and make him all the more unlikeable to the base, something he already is to a good degree. If he keeps it up, this puppy, Mittens, is going down. The use of surrogates, not PACs for his ugly brand of politics, brings it just a bit too close to home for him to continue to hide it. Voters always reject real ugliness in politics. They'll reject both it and Mitt Romney this time around, too.

And a significant factor in the swing in SC.

I thought the "anniversary cake" stunt was just too damn revealing of the kind of low-down dirty crap the Romney camp is ready to play.
No class. Whatsoever.

TAMPA, Fla. -- Michael Steele, the former Republican national chairman who oversaw the writing of the party's nominating rules in 2010, told The Huffington Post Saturday night that the chances of an open -- that is, undecided -- GOP convention in Florida next August are now "50-50" after Newt Gingrich's victory in South Carolina.

Huh.

It is Mitt Romney embarrassed to the Republican Party. Very disppointed with Gov. Christie of NJ. Christie's helping with Romney doesn't work because it is already hurt Romney. It is too late. Most of the voters out there are still undecided. I hope the voters will be careful not vote for Romney because of the RomneyCare. I read an article about on the death panel of Romneycare last week. It is scary in Mass. That why we don't need Romney in the White House.

rags, in less than 12 hours today, you posted over 20 entries.
May I suggest you find something constructive to do with your life? After all, when you are reduced to spewing the crap you find at the HuffPo, you are definately in dire need of some other form of entertainment.

I live in Florida and Romney couldn't beat mccain in the primaries last round. He doesn't connect with people period, plus all Newt has to say is where was he 2009 and 2010 during the rise of the Tea Parties, did he help fight. No Romney always concerned about being the candidate and not making mistakes and ruining his chances.
Florida voters remember.

Well, no VP for Christie, sure he's mad now, but cares about these rhinos anyways. Romeny did the same thing in 2008, especially to Sarah Palin among others.
It's really a thing to behold to watch these rhino heads explode, because they were given the middle finger by the voters.
At least they now reveal themself to all of us, we know better who to target.

Gingrich would be denied a government security clearance for his ethics violations and sexual philandering alone. He couldn't get a job with the FBI, CIA, most DOS jobs, or even as an intelligence military contractor. As an elected official he doesn't need to go through the clearance process. It is up to the American voters to vet the man. Look into his history. The serial infidelity - and by serial I mean more than twice. The ethics violations. Dozens of his past friends, family and professional associates have gone on record with really, really unfavorable things to say. Then there is his very questionable relationship with Bill Clinton.
It ain't pretty.

I used to think this guy was just a shallow preppy doofus, the sort of clueless country club Republican with a cable-knit sweater around his neck. Now I realize he's a passive-aggressively vicious coward. In any case, he's a loser.

zaney, I really am impressed you can count.
I deal with information where I find it.
Got anything to refute that Steele said what he said?
I prefer reality.
You seem to wallow in delusion.

"He couldn't get a job with the FBI, CIA, most DOS jobs, or even as an intelligence military contractor."
Actually, that is the kind of lie a historical moron would tell.
Eisenhower and Patton both had liaisons during the war. At least.
Several American presidents had mistresses.
What "ethics violationssssss".
Post your support.
Posted by: Ragspierre | Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 10:37 PM
Reread the post, ragspierre. An elected official does not have to get security clearance. I'm not sure what Patton or Eisenhower had to do as far security clearance. Things have changed a bit since the 1940's. The OSS/CIA didn't even start until 1947.
Here's the support:
AR 380-67 (Personnel Security) Chapter 2-200, Security Clearances can be denied for (among many other things) "Criminal or dishonest conduct", and "Acts of omission or commission that indicate poor judgement, unreliability or untrustworthiness".
PS. After recess they are passing out kool-aid in the lunchroom to aid you in swallowing the ongoing Gingrich ethics violation denial.
Posted by: ljm | Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 11:03 PM
Support...
1. that Gingrich was not exonerated by the IRS
2. there were ethical VIOLATIONSSSSSS
3. that AR 380-67 would apply REMOTELY in the circumstances
4. that SEALS, Delta Force, Force Recon Marines, and Air Force Rescue teams are monastic choir boys who NEVER have a divorce, commit adultery, etc.
5. that you have ANY FLUCKING idea about that which you are pontificating (and BOY is that the right term, your assholiness.)
Posted by: Ragspierre | Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 11:12 PM
You really are hitting the kool-aid kinda hard.
here's a link outlining the ethics mess:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/govt/leadership/stories/011897.htm
Gingrich was NEVER cleared of lying to the committee.
As a serial adulterer and reprimanded liar you can be sure that the AR 380 67 would apply to Gingrich.
The Seals and others you mentioned are not members of the CIA, FBI, Department of State or government intelligence contractors. They are military, silly.
Posted by: ljm | Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 11:38 PM
PS. Gingrich made a very squishy admittance today on CNN that he had indeed mislead the committee.
Posted by: ljm | Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 11:49 PM
"Cole said he had concluded that Gingrich had violated federal tax law and had lied to the ethics panel in an effort to force the committee to dismiss the complaint against him."
And the IRS found that Gingrich had NOT violated tax law.
"As a serial adulterer and reprimanded liar you can be sure that the AR 380 67 would apply to Gingrich."
Show us the support you have for you naked bullsh!t assertion, your assholiness.
Since you are playing cute with the "military", support that members of the FBI, CIA, or ANY FLUCKING body would be denied a security clearance after the findings noted by the IRS.
Support you claims. I mean with something besides your self-righteousness.

Romney should quit and go home and leave us "holier than though" conservatives to our own resources. He's been our security blanket allowing us to have all our wonderful ideas at his expense but let's nominate Newt the adulterer or Santorum the preacher. To hell with people that like him as a candidate, conservatives that actually accept he has evolved into a conservative and believe what he is telling us. Screw the Tea Party who supports him more than other candidates. We know better than everybody else. Who needs a class act guy who actually governed and has business acumen when we have a flamethrower adultering narcissist Washington K Street lobbyist? Let's throw Romney the capitalist out now! Have we lost our collective conservative minds?
Posted by: Dave B | Monday, January 23, 2012 at 06:27 AM
"Who needs a class act guy who actually governed..."
Massachusetts...?
Badly...?
Not Conservatives, for sure.

I hate to bring up the religion aspect--I really do--BUT anyone who has lived amongst Mormons knows that this is standard behavior with them. I'm serious as I have lived/am living that experience.
Posted by: Kathryn of Wyoming | Monday, January 23, 2012 at 08:29 AM
Ragspierre: No he didn't govern "badly". If you were a taxpaying conservative in Massachusetts you would know that. If you lived in Massachusetts for a single year you wouldn't have made that remark. If you were a resident that paid for every freeloader coming from other states for their medical care that our asshole Democrat legislature proposed then you would appreciate what he did. Simply put, he made people pay for something that we were paying for, and he did it using a conservative notion at the time... but we conservatives have run away from that since "Obamacare" has been such a disaster. The "Individual Mandate" was a conservative idea when he did it. Why don't we have the guts to admit it? You can't be more conservative than I am and there's nobody that pays more attention than I do and I saw it as a conservative response to liberal ideas of taking over healthcare. Every conservative I hear berating Romney on this is diminished in my eyes because I was there and know what he did and how it was the conservative response to a liberal program. Apparently nobody wants to admit this and would rather "Monday morning quaterback" as opposed to being honest. I must not have heard all those conservatives "railing" against an individual mandate in those years, maybe my radio wasn't working properly or my television was broken. What bullshit! Not only aren't we conservatives admitting that we had a bad idea but we are taking the cowardly position of making Romney a scapegoat on it without telling everyone that he was doing what we wanted him to do.

Ann Coulter, another Romney junk yard dog, made the allegation that Romney can't control his SuperPac, it's illegal. I wonder why then people were calling Newt to reign in his superpac for making points (that you can be sure the the DNC will be making) about Bain Capital. Does that make sense? It doesn't?
The truth is that Romney could make a public statement reigning in his superpac and surrogates and that would be the end of it.
Posted by: Con Ned | Monday, January 23, 2012 at 10:00 AM
No Dave B, we haven't lost our collective minds. Dole, I mean McCain, I mean Romney can't win. Why? Because he Dole is a RINO. I mean, McCain is an Establishmentarian who spits on Conservatives. Aaargh...they're all so alike...these RINO losers...can't tell them apart.
Vote against McCain Romney!
VOTE FOR RICK!
Posted by: Tennwriter | Monday, January 23, 2012 at 10:27 AM
What the hell are you talking about? Romney, not once, asked Newt to "reign in" his Super Pac. That was all Gingrich. Conservatives around the nation were questioning just what the hell he was doing becoming a Democrat in these ads and urged him to stop it. It had nothing to do with Romney. Mark Levin was inches away from asking Perry and Gingrich to leave the race because of it. Rush Limbaugh was rightly disgusted. All conservatives were appalled. But Romney is supposed to reign in a Super Pac with negative ads about Newt? First, what was false in those ads? Newt never articulated... ever. He just claimed they were false like he currently claims he is the "conservative" candidate. Says who? I just learned that Ann Coulter joined the ranks of Tea Party favorites as Nikki Haley, Chris Christie, Tim Pawlenty, Senator Thune,Christine O'Donnell, and others as Romney's "junk yard dog". Even a casual observer can see that these types of arguments are just absurd when faced with real facts. Ann Coulter doesn't want a conservative candidate? Is this what we've devolved to?
Posted by: Dave B | Monday, January 23, 2012 at 10:33 AM
Ann Coulter, bless her heart, said it herself when she said If we don't get Christie then the nomination will go to Romney, and we'll lose. Or words to that effect. I wish more people would report on the disgusting anniversary cake incident. Mitt is a nasty piece of work or doesn't have the balls to admit being a nasty piece of work or act like one in public.
