Update: Lowry's NRO post is back up this morning, someone claimed it was a coding error. I've never seen that at NRO before. If so, it might suggest Lowry was doing some editing post-publication and somehow messed up the coding. But not my area, so who knows. He has, in my opinion, still doubled down on stupid and insulting as the original post content lacked context making it appear to be Gingrich bashing Reagan. That was misleading. That is NOT the case, see for yourself here.
I've heard of Friday night doc dumps, but not literally dumping documents already published without some form of acknowledgement. Most any responsible blogger would view that as a breach of protocol. What to make of this by NRO editor Rich Lowry? The title remains but the body of the post is gone for now.
Hmm, no response yet from Rich on Twitter. I guess we'll just have to wait. Below are screencaps of the original post from a reader who emailed same from before it disappeared, if one's interested. One should be able to click to expand the images and read them in sequence if desired.

It's blank for me, too, and several NRO commenters mention that the emperor has no words.
I don't see an attack on Reagan himself here at all. Newt's speech was clearly attacking elements of the executive branch (probably Foggy Bottom) that were undermining Reagan's philosophy of forceful dealing with global Communism. A phrase frequently uttered in the 1980s was, "Let Reagan be Reagan," and it arose from the reality that not everyone in the Reagan administration trusted the President's instincts or shared his clarity on matters of good and evil.
I notice Lowry didn't include this quote: "The fact is that George Will, Charles Krauthammer, Irving Kristol, and Jeane Kirkpatrick are right in pointing out the enormous gap between President Reagan's strong rhetoric, which is adequate, and his administration's weak policies, which are inadequate and will ultimately fail."
Steve Deace has the whole speech in PDF: http://stevedeace.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/March-21-1986-Freedoms-Future-The-Free-World-and-the-Soviet-Empire.pdf

I posted a comment on Lowry's blank item with a link to the speech and a link to the screenshots here. It's been "queued for moderation." To post, I had to watch a Little Caesar's ad and type their slogan in the box.
As Bill Rusher used to say to WFB, "Pizza! Pizza!"

This is an obvious coding error. Everything below that post is askew. The text of the post is still available in the source code. How any of this could escape a blogger is beyond my comprehension.

Hey Michael D Bates, I clicked on your link and read it. Sooner or later I believe, we'll be in a game of cowboys and mooslims. If that happens, I would rather have this Newton Leroy Gingrich, in the White House, than J Willard Milton Romney the 3rd.

I am amazed by all these people putting out attacks so easily debunked on the right. A publication is permanently damaged by such behavior not just the author. When i go to one of these news aggregating sites i look first to see the source and then the headline. Usually if it is from the new york times or the washington post, i do not waste my time with their bunk and junk. If this keeps up the national review will join them on my mental list of propaganda purveyors.

NRO, WSJ,Ann Coulter, and various so called Conservative blogs have lost me. Romney is a weak cowardly choice who I do not believe will be all that different from Obama. I say--follow the money --to understand why Romney gets the support from the media. Oh the MSM--they and Obama love Romney.

Rich Lowry will never admit he was wrong, either will Ramesh Ponnuru. This principle of never admitting wrong has obviously helped them fool lots of people; they sure fooled Bill Buckley. The problem is that NRO will only increase in respect and influence no matter how frequently they make errors. Same with Krauthammer, Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, etc. I love how Krauthammer actually has an opinion about Newt and Reagan in the 80s when in 1984, Krauthammer was writing speeches for Walter Mondale. When did Krauthammer officially switch over to the Reagan side?

NR went over a cliff.
They're committed to Romney, and have been for years.
They'll do anything to destroy his opposition during the primary season.
But for all their effort, they won't be able to inoculate Romney from the attacks in the general, attacks on his wealth, Bain, his flip-flopping, his want of character, his endless deceptions, his passive aggression.
He's going to be eviscerated by the media and by obama.

Keep this up. We are seeing Alinsky tactics being used by Romney supporters to demonize Newt. All I wanted was a fair fight. With that I could live with the results, but even Dick Morris and Drudge are joining the attack on Newt. While all this is going on we have Jeb Bush and his father visiting the White House. What is this all about. At some level we have the same marching orders on both parties. Many power brokers support both parties and then threaten to pull that support if needed. We are seeing this synergy take hold with Obama and the Bushes. Now tell me, with all the blame against George Bush, put out by Obama, why would tell be having cozy chats? Reil, please dig into this alliance of sorts. I have little doubt that at some level there is a move to get Obama elected in 2012 and Jeb Bush in 2016.
