John Hawkins of RightWingNews has a poll out of Right-side bloggers. Contrast these two questions. What does it tell us? If the least conservative candidate, Romney is also viewed as the most electable, then these conservative bloggers (I didn't participate) don't even believe in what they purport to believe in enough to fight for it, and or they think conservatism is a losing proposition. What the hell is the point of blogging if that's how you feel? You're not interested in advancing your own agenda, you're only interested in spouting off about your victim status. Go the hell away and leave the blogging to people willing to fight for what they believe in, not whine because you're a candy-assed mainstream media kool-aid drinking loser.
5) Which candidate do you consider to be the most conservative?
4) Mitt Romney: 4.4% (3 votes)3) Ron Paul: 19.1% (13 votes)2) Newt Gingrich: 22.1% (15 votes)1) Rick Santorum: 54.4% (37 votes)
4) Which candidate do you consider to be the most “electable” against Obama?
4) Ron Paul: 2.9% (2 votes) 3) Rick Santorum: 10.3% (7 votes) 2) Newt Gingrich: 32.4% (22 votes) 1) Mitt Romney: 54.4% (37 votes)

So then, their purpose in blogging is what exactly?
Do they have any conviction at all?
Or is the internet just one big complaint box?
If these are our supposed allies in the fight against disinformation, we're f*#@!d.

Apparently, they are really LOUSY researchers, too.
Santorum is NOT a conservative.
Or maybe Right Bloggers are less conservative than I would have imagined.

In the new survey, Romney holds a 40%-31% advantage over Gingrich among self-described conservatives, a 38%-33% margin over Gingrich among white evangelical Christians, and a 40%-35% margin over the former House speaker among tea party movement supporters. All three groups are part of Gingrich's strongest supporters.

Yep.
Lying on the mass media CAN work.
See Barackah, Obama.

Malkin endorses Santorum.
Not a surprise, really.
Posted by: Ragspierre | Monday, January 30, 2012 at 09:24 AM
Rags,
no one in the field passes the conservative ideology test 100%. Santorum for me is the most consistent. His endorsement of Arlen "magic bullet" Specter pisses me off, but sometimes members of my own family piss me off and I still love them and would go to war for them. Same with Santorum.

Dan I just want to thank you for being there. You are saving my sanity.
Posted by: Kaye | Monday, January 30, 2012 at 09:36 AM
A, Santorum is ANTI-market economics...time-after-time. He is a BIG GOVERNMENT "conservative", but a nice guy.

Well, it tells me they're all being paid by the left? They have to pass the Palin rule, if they attack or don't support her they're busted, period, works every time. Go read the archives about Palin and who/what was thrown at her, that will tell you all you need to know. I bashed you for poking Beck in the eye back when, who would of thunk now he's a shill for Romney. Was he all along, maybe, maybe not, he started to hang with the Hollywood big boys and that's about when he turned. It's cool to be the popular kid, well he'll never sell the amount of books again. I will never stop fighting, there are others who feel the same, watch out for Palin, she has an army and they're ready to go. There's one more person out there with an army, Tammy Bruce. She already has Rencey boy quoting her cruise ship analogy, that's something, that tell's us, THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HECK THEY'RE DOING!!! Palin was genius when she started the grizzly mantra, don't mess with our cubs taps into every mother with ears and it was tested somewhat in NC, we'll see what happens next! TTFN :)>grrrrr!

Let's look at this data from a different perspective.
First, one question asks who the participating bloggers believe to be the MOST conservative. This is a relative ranking, not a measure of who is and is not conservative. Deeming someone "Most conservative" does not mean that the rest are not conservative.
Second, the other question deals with electability. It is perfectly consistent to believe that someone is the most conservative candidate and that someone else is the most electable. Indeed, based upon my study of polling while working on my Master's degree in Political science, I'm led inexorably to the conclusion that Mitt Romney is the most electable in this field, irrespective of whether or not he is the most conservative. Am I to put aside the data because it does not conform to my belief as to who is the most conservative and who the American people OUGHT to vote for? That would be intellectually dishonest.
I am a conservative who believes in conservative principles. Given my choice, we would have a ticket with Bobby Jindal and John Bolton on it. But that isn't to be -- and both the data and my conversation with a wide range of people both in and out of the conservative movement tell me that Newt cannot win the election short of Barack Obama being caught on tape in bed with Kim Jong-Un and Hugo Chavez having a threesome. Given that this is unlikely to happen, I'm obliged to ask what candidate can win. Indeed, the most responsible question to ask today is which candisdate can beat Obama and how do we make sure he does, lest we find ourselves facing four more years of Obamunism and the full implementation of ObamaCare. After all, that is what we face if we don't nominate a candidate the American people will vote for.

Oooops, meant NC>SC, you knew what I meant :)
Posted by: jann | Monday, January 30, 2012 at 10:28 AM
By the way, I've heard some folks compare this election to 1980 and suggest that nominating the most conservative candidate is the best option because anyone will beat Obama. But the data does not necessarily show this -- and can certainly be interpreted as indicative of this being 1964, when we nominated the most conservative candidate and got handed our heads because the American people weren't willing to vote for him.

I have been dealing with a broken right ankle since May, but I ain't crazy (The crazy ones are the Paulaholics)!. :-D
I have serious issues with Romney & Newt, and lean toward Santorum, and am seriously pissed at all the fighting between the Romney & Newt sides, when the focus needs to be on Obama.

"they think conservatism is a losing proposition."
THIS!
They are looking to rearrange deck chairs, but they will never admit it.

The so-called "poll" is useless. Hawkins asked the blogs he wanted to parrot his view, which is, Romney should be the nominee, because, SHUT UP!
Posted by: babygiraffes | Monday, January 30, 2012 at 01:31 PM
Rags,
respectfully disagree. As with any legislator there are troublesome votes, but overall I think Santorum is consistently conservative, certainly when his state & district are factored.
As a Tea Party American I believe in limited government, not No government. Sometimes I think that's a distinction that gets lost in the discussion. My read on Santorum is he leans more toward the former than the latter himself. And that works for me.
Posted by: A Stephens | Monday, January 30, 2012 at 02:18 PM
A, I run at Santorum from a "first principles" POV.
For me, economic liberty is a first principle of Conservatism.
Tariffs are BIG GOVERNMENT.
Being anti-free trade is BIG GOVERNMENT.
Imposing social values is BIG GOVERNMENT.
This is Santorum's record, IMNHO.

Santorum is a conservative with flaws (I am troubled by some of his past positions). But to say Santorum is not a conservative (as some argument Newt Gingrich is) is just as flawed and subjective as Hugh Hewitt getting all hot and bothered about Mitt Romney and denouncing Gingrich as not being conservative. It is just not true.
Newt is a conservative with flaws. Big ones. Santorum is a conservative with some big flaws, but as Malkin pointed out he has been conservative on some big issues too. When Newt screws up as a conservative, he screws up big. Endorsing Dede Scozzafava, canoodling with Pelosi, and denouncing Ryan were friggin huge. Santorum endorsed Douchebag...I mean Spector, but he may have been strong armed by GOP Elites on that, but he did it and that was a bad mistake (although he does make the case we got Alito over that so maybe it was not as bad as things could have been--a Senator for a SCOTUS). So was endorsing some of Bush's "compassionate conservative" crap.
Posted by: EBL | Monday, January 30, 2012 at 04:27 PM
EBL, your definition is MUCH more expansive than mine.
When did Gingrich "denounce" Ryan, as opposed to making a TRUE (but unhelpful) observation about Ryan's plan?
Posted by: Ragspierre | Monday, January 30, 2012 at 04:38 PM
Levin just played a clip of Mitt Romney thanking Ted Kennedy for helping craft Romney care. Devestating
Posted by: Kaye | Monday, January 30, 2012 at 06:27 PM
Gingrich by close analysis of all critical big issues and stands over years, and length of those stands, simply cannot possible be more conservative than Santorum, who is the most conservative overall other than Bachmann, who left th race. It's just laughable that so many here would even attempt to argue this...
Posted by: Yeahright | Monday, January 30, 2012 at 06:50 PM
For each and every pertinent detail, like supporting Specter, etc. balanced against Gingrich (Scozafazza, even worse and more blatent with comments of demanding rank and file fall in line no less) makes Santorum win on merit. The problem is closing the gap ONCE Newt won SC, which RS needed to win after Iowa to get enough momo and money...
Posted by: Yeahright | Monday, January 30, 2012 at 06:53 PM
It might make strictly tactical sense if Santorum dropped out on a deal with Newt, endorsed him, became the running mate, to make soc. cons and others accept Gingrich and combine the votes against Romney, the least conservative candidate (except on immigration, arguably, though) as a strategy.

Friends, Romans, countrymen: when are we going to remember to check EVERY SINGLE THING we think we "know" from the MSM? SERIOUSLY.
Go back and listen to the question Newt was asked. Should Republicans force unpopular legislation on the American people for their own good, like the Democrats did with Obamacare. (And note that this doesn't even take into consideration some of the most egregiously bad conduct, the illegal tricks Pelosi and Reid used to "pass" the legislation.)
Please note this and pass it along to all your friends: Newt did not "denounce" Paul Ryan's plan. NOT. NOT. NOT.
And, as I understand it, Paul Ryan has since gone back in the most recent iteration of his plan and made some things optional rather than government-mandated. So Paul Ryan agreed with Newt.
Listen to the question. Listen to the question: SHOULD REPUBLICANS, LIKE OBAMA DID, "BUCK POPULAR OPINION…? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsHw92j9P0Q
Original sources on the internet give us power. Power to the people The little people.
Also, here is Newt's SPACE POLICY speech, which is just plain simply awesome: "NEWT'S TOWN HALL MEETING ON SPACE POLICY" http://conservatives4newt.blogspot.com/2012/01/video-newt-gingrich-town-hall-meeting.html - January 25, 2012 - Cocoa, Florida - 33:42

Simple. They don't want to work that hard. "The soft bigotry of low expectations" of "bitter clingers." A "truce" in all but name is surrender. The charge of a big govt lackey laid by compromised Erick Erickson is a dud. We all know it. Maybe going back into their blogger past on Bush era posts might not appeal to their advertisers? Mitt Romney is something new in a way; a shiny pony. Sad to say, but the effort to snark is smoother than to be positive so why not ignore the decent guy in the race? Pathetic hipsters.
The depth of the hatred toward Santorum is not over social positions Obama himself holds but knowing this monstrous centralization of power in Obamacare will not stand. The "inevitability" the opposition craves is not in Mitt Romney as the nominee but enshrining health care as a "right." Mr Romneycare will repeal Obamacare? More fool us.
Political winds never cease but who among these "electability" bloggers and politicians have not stepped aside or outright caved to bullies? Rick Santorum stands alone in the spotlight for individual sovereignty -- no individual mandate, no carbon dioxide tax, no Wall Street bailouts socializing losses and privatizing profits. "Judgment matters. When the winds are blowing what we've seen is Romney and Gingrich, they put their sails up and go." -Rick Santorum
