Sorry, but there's really no other word for it. Talk about someone with a malfunction. You write for the Washington Post now, sweetie. You need to grow up and at least write like an adult, even if you can't manage to think like one. Besides, as far as conservatism, all you likely ever did was cheer the nation off to another war and suck down, only to regurgitate, the GOP establishment line on domestic policy. You sound like a petty loser. Plenty of good people are fighting an honest fight to get this out of control government to rein in spending. Suggesting all they want to do is blow up a deal is a pathetic disservice done them by an obviously very small-minded, petty person misleading people about your politics by calling yourself a conservative. That makes you a liar.
The president gets a deal through 2012; the House gets its cuts; and Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) gets his commission. And the GOP extremists don’t get their balanced budget amendment passed and sent to the states or the satisfaction of blowing up the deal. As for the country, if it passes, the agreement will take us from the days of automatic debt-ceiling raises to the first, tentative steps toward fiscal sanity.
I'd wager she's been called a lot of things, what with her petty attitude and lack of class, let alone a genuine appreciation for a genuine conservatism. Via her Wiki.
Rubin's political views are widely characterized as conservative[4] and neoconservative.[5] She was also called a supporter of Tea Party movement,[6]
The most accurate thing to call her is likely a typical John Kerry-backing L.A. liberal who changed her stripes over the Democrat's foreign policy and has been lying about what she is ever since. It takes at least a small amount of courage and tremendous fortitude to fight a wrong-headed mainstream political party when it's wrong-headed, Rubin. You didn't even have it in you to fight for the Democrat Party, apparently - but just looked for the path of least resistance, instead. Not to mention, it takes a complete lack of class and integrity to mis-characterize yourself as a conservative the way you have and do, only to advance a career you clearly don't deserve.
Also, that you're now using your ill-gained platform to question the honest motivations of so many decent, dedicated people selflessly fighting for their beliefs and America's and their children's well being and futures makes you rather despicable. But, don't worry, the good and serious-minded members of the conservative grassroots movement I know wouldn't even want you. There are, after all, two-bit hacks on every corner in Washington. Congratulations on finding yourself a, hopefully, decent paying corner to stand on while you ply your trade.
A commenter on my blog about Jennifer Rubin tells me that he knew her in Hollywood, where she was known to be conventionally liberal as late as 2004:
"I knew Jennifer fairly well for a number of years. She worked at DreamWorks and DreamWorks Animation. She worked with Jeffrey Katzenberg on issues and I had lunch with her lots of times. (I’m the labor rep for the Animation Guild, Local 839 IATSE and she was on the company side. You tend to get to know your opposite number.)
We talked about the 2004 campaign endlessly. She was always funny, with sharp observations. I never got the impression she was anything but a Democrat (as am I.) Maybe she was taking on that coloration because Jeffrey K. is a Big Time Dem, or she genuinely felt that way, or she had a religious conversion. She was mildly critical of some of Kerry’s campaign moves during the ’04 campaign, but she wasn’t in the Bush camp.
It’s somewhat startling to me that she is now hard right, but stranger things have happened. Whether she sees this as where the money and fame is, or what she honestly believes, or something in-between, I know not."

She would not have kept her job at DW under Spielberg and Katzenberg as a conservative. Never happen.

People whose sole means of communication is through juvenile insults should really avoid telling others to "write like an adult."
The irony meter can't take it.

Like Richard M., I discount the DreamWorks thing because I've seen it up-close and personal in the workplace.
But she's an asshole nonetheless.

I would label her a "neo" something from reading most of her stuff when she wrote for "Commentary". I think she really turned toward the Republican party due to Obama's treatment of Israel. Her stances have moved rightward but I would not label her a conservative, no matter what she says.

She's a Jew. She's in the "media". Therefore a liberal. Does that tell you everything you need to know about her?

What about life on this planet tomorrow? How’s that look if Nancy gets her way? The Democrat model of governance is to spend $4 trillion while only collecting $2 trillion, borrowing the rest from tomorrow. Instead of “printing money,” we’re printing credit cards and pre-approving our unborn grandchildren. To facilitate this proposition, Washington created its own form of fantasy accounting: “baseline budgeting,” under which growth-in-government is factored in to federal bookkeeping as a permanent feature of life. As Arthur Herman of the American Enterprise Institute pointed out this week, under present rules, if the government were to announce a spending freeze — that’s to say, no increases, no cuts, everything just stays exactly the same — the Congressional Budget Office would score it as a $9 trillion savings. In real-world terms, there are no “savings,” and there’s certainly no $9 trillion. In fact, there isn’t one thin dime. But nevertheless, that’s how it would be measured at the CBO.

A conservative from the wapo, highly unlikely. " The sickly dotard" is what she is.
Posted by: sickofrinos | Sunday, July 31, 2011 at 07:14 AM
One of the biggest problems that American Progressives and American conservatives have is a lack of communication. Nowhere is that more apparent than in the past few years with the Heath care bill and now with the debt ceiling crisis. I don't know what conservatives want and this is a big part of the problem. Over the course of the rest of the day, I will be posting this question on 100 conservative blogs as well as at media outlets in comments:
"It is 2013, you have a supermajority in both the House and the Senate and a true conservative GOP president. What are the top ten things that you would want to see come out of government in the two years you would have certainty that a conservative agenda will be carried out?"
Your options are open. You can respond at the post for this question at our blog or if you're not comfortable going to a liberal blog you can post your answers inline here and they'll be retrieved by a member of my crack staff.

'K...
1. return the Constitution as the charter of the Federal government (i.e., "interstate commerce" means what it says, and what it meant in American jurisprudence prior to the FDR over-throw of the Constitution). Repeal the 17th Amendment, which had the effect of creating a class of super-congresscritters, instead of what the Founders intended the Senate to be.
2. return the issue of abortion to the states (where it belonged during all our history until Roe discovered a new "right" that would have been anathema to the Framers).
3. give the "other amendments" in the Bill Of Rights the same accord as liberals give the 1st Amendment, especially the 10th Amendment.
4. scrap the Internal Revenue Code and start from a clean sheet of paper, designing a tax system that SOLELY raises ONLY the revenue necessary under No. 1 (above), and taxes all Americans for their government at the same rate, and DOES NOT tax business (which really just taxes consumers). (Tariffs are another matter, but should also be avoided.)
5. sunset ALL existing Federal law, with a very few years given older law before it has to be reviewed in the full legislative process.
6. scrap MOST of the Executive agencies, starting with Education, Agriculture, the EPA, and any surviving czarships.
7. sell virtually all land held by the Federal government, proceeds SOLELY to retire debt, and return most park land to the states.
8. carefully wind-down ALL Federal entitlement programs.
9. enforce immigration law, control the borders, and rationally deport illegal aliens who come into the awareness of LEOs.
10. make Supreme Court Justices subject to recall under a very rigorous (i.e., high percentage) vote of the majority of the people.
That would do nicely, I think...

"The president gets a deal through 2012; the House gets its cuts; and Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) gets his commission. "
The 'loyal opposition' again merely put up the appearance of a 'fight'.
"Cuts" aren't anything but a reduction in the growth, bending the exponential curve every so slightly toward the horizon.
Obusted gets his "deal" for no benefit to America whatever--the cost of financing our current debt goes up.

Ha! Diane Valencen shows herself to be a frothing-at-the-mouth hater in virtually everything she posts at "our blog" (which she seems to think is well enough known that she doesn't need to tell us what it is here) - why would anyone try to deal with HER in good faith? She's not interested in dialog, or even if she thinks she is, she's not capable of it, as her world view is so far left she doesn't understand normal people.

It seems to me that since you knew her she's matured a bit and is no longer trying to be that defiant child that we find so often in the liberal camp. As a grown up person she is taking an adult view of what's going on rather than following along, as you apparently do, with a party line - right or wrong. The fact that she's NOT following the conservative's to a "T" is absolutely wonderful! It indicates to me a woman who, though she may be basically conservative, still has a mind of her own and is able to pick and choose what she does and does not agree with. You seem to lack this ability.
Posted by: Leslie S. | Sunday, July 31, 2011 at 10:36 AM
"You seem to lack this ability."
You seem to be a complete fool. See my previous post, dummy. I went along with West and was supporting compromise. In essence, I agreed with Rubin's position on the debt deal. Guess I do have that ability, wouldn't you say? The fact is, it's that I was on her side on this issue is what allows me to genuinely appreciate how pathetic she is. She has no respect for the majority of genuine conservatives. Lindsey Graham is on TV today saying even this deal is a bad one. I guess he's an extremist, too. Next time you comment here, try to not embarrass yourself so, moron.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Jennifer Rubin has turned coat. She's an Establishment shill. She is selling herself for the lowest bidder. It's sad to see, because she was a very good blogger for Commentary. She was ahead of the curve on Palin and the Tea Party. Then all of a sudden, she gets the WAPO gig and she's all Establishment, all the time. It's sad

And did you notice how Kerry was able to insert the meme into his pathetic questioning of Rubio on the Senate floor? I think his sole purpose for speaking up was just so he could use the word "hostage." These people are all adolescent automatons; totalitarians in the making. They never had and never will have any intention to debate or discuss anything -- it's only about pounding their narrative of fear and loathing into the collective consciousness.

I also particularly loved the "terrorist" meme.
Henceforth, it is an act of terrorism to balance your check-book.
And this from people who refer to actual terrorists as "insurrgents, freedom-fighters, and militants".
But is kinda fun to watch the Collective swirl down the crapper, and make "1984" seem like a light parody....

Jennifer Rubin has NEVER been a Conservative, she has been a Progressive leaning left and now since the L Prog position is filled up with crappy writers she has positioned her self as a R Prog. This is also where Krauthammer, Goldberg, Bennitt, McCain, Snowe and all the other Republican establishment has been for a long time. Unless the traditional Conservative/Libertarian principles are reinstated in a position of power, nothing will change. Surely the caterwauling against the TP by all sides of the establishment will wake up more citizens as to the depth of the problem our current political parties/pirates have driven this country. BTW, if you want to see want a tool Jen Rubin is check Commentary's Contentions site and review her work. She's McCain in drag.

The good news: There are reports of a possible debt deal. The bad news: President Obama might let the GOP have everything. As reports of a possible deal leaked out late Saturday night, it appears that Obama is meeting the Republicans—on their terms. The Daily Beast's Michael Tomasky says it is a bleak day in American history, as we could be embarking on a path of huge cuts to programs. Plus, what to watch for in the debt showdown today.

I've been reading Jennifer Rubin in Commentary and the Washington Post for years now, and she's been pretty conservative throughout, in both her domestic and foreign policy posts and articles. So the question as to whether she is, in some metaphysical sense, REALLY conservative in terms of her actual secret or past beliefs, is not really interesting.
And Dan, you express yourself with these strange bursts of vituperation against people who are - at least for the most part - on your own ideological side, leading reasonable people to believe that you're kind of fucked up.

Typical Dan. Could it be that Rubin is referring to the 22 clowns who voted againsf Boehner; or to the hundreds of talk radio callers I have heard over the past several weeks expressly urging the right to blow up any deal. Or for that matter to the talk show hosts egging them on.
As for Rubin's supposed epiphany, sure, any clever opportunist would choose to move from left to right between 2004 and 2008.

Yesterday, analysts thought the economy was expanding by 2.5% a year. This morning, they learned GDP grew by only 1.6% in the last four quarters. This is a remarkable discovery. It’s the difference between thinking we’re expanding at a decent, if disappointing, pace, and knowing we’re growing around half our historical norm.
Analysts also thought, as recently as twelve hours ago, that the economy declined 6.8% and 4.9% in the quarters bisected by Obama’s inauguration. It turns out the actual declines were much steeper: 8.9% and 6.7%.
To adopt the president’s favorite metaphor of the ditch and the driver: The ditch was a 33% deeper than we thought. And we’re driving 33% slower than we hoped.
--The Atlantic
No. It ain't a "ditch". It is the Grand Canyon. And we are going FASTER than we thought.

Brian as a reader of Commentary, you're point of Ms. Rubin is correct. However, Commentary and its core readership is not that of the Washington Post. The question arises :does she write for the audience at hand, based on venue,and/ or has core values that reflect in her articles of a conservative? Her latest offering would suggest a "chamelon" conservative, which Mr. Riehl finds offensive.
Yes ,it is a bit of "vitupercation" which does not lead to Mr.Reihl being"fucked up."
