This is the same outfit that has begun to sue several bloggers. Now, they're going after Sharron Angle. I wonder if they'll be suing pols from both parties?
LAS VEGAS — A company has sued Republican U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle, claiming she reprinted two Las Vegas Review-Journal articles on her campaign website without permission.
Las Vegas-based Righthaven is seeking unspecified damages in its complaint filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas.

From what I read the other day, it sounds like Righthaven was hammering the Reid campaign and they complained, saying, "Why aren't you going after Republicans?" LVR-J is nominally considered conservative, the implication being that Righthaven was doing the newspaper's political bidding. The whole suing of bloggers is so disgusting, and so backwards-thinking. Are they trying to convince people to not read the R-J? It's working. The LV Sun is highly lib but they can put together a good news article, have a great archive search engine, and *don't sue*.

Rightraven -- er -- Righthaven better hope that Angle loses. Think what having someone you ticked off in that manner can do once they have power of subpoena.

Hmmmm.
Actually Righthaven could also potentially be useful for bloggers.
Most bloggers don't have the resources to go after the WaPo or other major media corporations. By contracting with Righthaven, or a competitor to Righthaven for this market, bloggers could individually or collectively put financial pressure on media companies.
IMO copyright law needs some basic reform. For one thing it shouldn't last as long as it now does.

..I followed this Righthaven back to it's parent Corp...Stephens Media LLC, The man who runs it is a third generation Stephens out of Little Rock Ark. The parent Corp is an Investment banking group Stephen Inc. that also owns Stephens Media which owns Las Vegas Review Journal which started Righthaven, most of these cases are settled out of court for cash....
Warren A Stephens, CEO Stephens Inc.
Stephens Media LLC(owner of Las Vegas Review Journal)
Righthaven LLC

excepts from above..
"Righthaven is essentially a company established by Stephens Media LLC, the owner of numerous newspaper including the Las Vegas Review Journal (the “RJ”), in order to go after any and all third party websites that improperly excerpt all or part of the copyrighted articles from the RJ."
"Righthaven’s agenda to obtain quick and easy cash settlements (in addition to having its copyrighted content taken down from those posting without permission) is clear by the fact that Righthaven never contacts any of these websites and orders them to take down the infringing content nor sends any kind of cease and desist letter to takedown request against the website."
here's the kicker..this family is heavily into GOB politics, backing both Clinton and GW Bush, and are giving cash to a number of Republicans in this years races.

hope this info helps us all see a clear picture of this Righthaven group....

The object is to IGNORE them and literally take away their source of funding. Companies do not advertise where EYES won't see them.
