Would the conservatives arguing about the power of a Republican majority with Mike Castle please get back to me on this?
Reid Claims Two GOP Votes For Cap and Trade During Lame Duck
Harry Reid himself may not be too much opposed to the GOP establishment getting its way in Delaware. Mike Castle, currently a Congressman, voted FOR Cap and Trade and is, according to some rumors, thought to be one of the two GOP votes on which Reid is counting. Castle also supported and co-sponsored the “Disclose Act” which would have prevented groups like the Tea Party Express and others from effecting an upset in Alaska, where a GOP establishment candidate fell to a populist candidate, Joe Miller.

Ace and Allah are too busy down at the club to worry about such things. They will get back to you on Tuesday. Maybe.

The perfect question for a, um, "journalist" to ask Castle. "Congressman Castle, if you become Senator, will you vote for Cap and Trade with the Democrats?"

Dan,
It seems Jim Geraghty is at it again.

Hasn’t he already made most of these points? I like Geraghty and he’s entitled to his opinion. But this seems like a bit of piling on now by Geraghty.

Reed needs more than two Republican votes. He needs enough to defeat a filibuster.

Again, is anyone expecting better from a D Senator? It sure sounds like Castle's primary opponent has much sounder views on many issues, but, well, she has issues aplenty.
I really want to take the judiciary committee chairman's gavel out of that sh*tstain Pat Leahy's hands. If Sen. Castle is the price, it's worth it.
Cordially...

I'm sure Reid hopes for a lot of things. Including that something like this goes viral in the right blogosphere, boosting O'Donnell's votes, and ensuring a Democrat win in DE.
Just saying.

A couple of things:
1) Fight for your guy in the primary;
2) Once that fight is over, vote for the one left standing who is most conservative.
3) A 10% conservative is better than a 100% liberal.

Is it still worth it if you end up putting that gavel in the hands of somebody like Castle or Specter or Chafee?

"A 10% conservative is better than a 100% liberal."
No. That 10% conservative will push through policies which sink the entire Republican Party, including the dwindling number of actual conservatives in it.
Whereas the 100% liberal will also push through bad policies, but the damage he does will be the the Democratic Party.

"Reed needs more than two Republican votes. He needs enough to defeat a filibuster."
If we keep electing lefty Republicans out of "pragmatism", he'll get those votes.

If the GOP retains control of the Senate, Jeff Sessions will be in charge of the Judiciary. Of course, it is so much better to be ideologically pure, stamp your feet, and hope that a Democrat wins in Delaware, thus denying the GOP the chance to gain control of the judiciary.
Great strategy.

Look, none of the conservatives who aren't hopping aboard the anti-Castle bandwagon are doing so out of some Frumian desire to elect a whole bunch of moderates. The sad reality is that there are going to be a few elections in which a guy like Castle is the best we can do. It sucks, but welcome to the real world.
It's almost as though people really think we really only have a choice between 60 Lindsey Grahams or 40 Jim DeMints. I'll live with about 5 Lindsey Grahams if we can get another 45-55 Jim DeMints.

SM: What the heck are you talking about?
The laws passed are what matters. They are ALL that matters. It is ALL that legislators DO. Is there something ELSE they do?
If I have a choice between a legislator who will vote along conservative lines once in a while OR a legislator who will NEVER vote along conservative lines, if I'm a conservative, I would have to be an utter FOOL to vote in such a manner which insures that my representative NEVER votes the way I would like when I could have one which does once in a while.
I simply don't understand that thinking. I really don't.
Nose.
Face.
Spite.

O'Connell is an idiot so it really doesn't matter how she says she would vote ... she also apparently likes to lie alot ...

more Red on Red here at Riehl ... why do you care so much ? She will lose in the general so why even try to get her elected ? plus she is an idiot ...

Castle's position on cap and trade is utterly immaterial to the lame duck session. He can't be one of the GOP votes Reid wants because he'll still be in the House until January...not the Senate.

No, watchman - he gets seated immediately. He'll resign the House seat. Do the research.

Marginal improvements are preferable to none at all. Commenters here have occasionally saluted the Left for its insidious, long-term thinking that yields the awful results so in need of pushback.
Replacing a scoundrel like Leahy with a centerist like Castle (others have reported his ACU rating is 50), if far, far better that allowing a destructive crypto-Marxist (maybe not so crypto) like Leahy to continue his ravages.
If O'Donnell was actually a *good* candidate, and had perhaps some little seasoning in elective office, hey, maybe I'd leap aboard. But Delaware is fukt enough to have sent Slow Joe. B. to the Senate for way over half my life, and all of the adult portion. That speaks to me about what is possible with that electorate, the former Senator Roth notwithstanding.

I'm really tired of 'conservatives' who have so little confidence in their core beliefs (alleged) that they won't even stand up for them in a freaking party primary. Why should I bother demonstrating and working for conservative candidates if you don't give a rat's ass?

Uh, how is Reid going to get a Castle vote in a lame duck session? Even if he wins the Senate seat, Castle will still be in the House until the new Congress is seated. He will not be a Senator in the lame duck session. Ted Kaufman will remain in office through the lame duck session.
