This is the same LIAR, who promised the US Government would NEVER respond slowly or poorly to anything on anything ever again. No one is blaming him for Oil spills, just his pathetic incompetence in handling a crisis. BOOM baby - sitting in MAINE? Failing to remove the JONES ACT (which the Bush Administration wisely did during the Katrina tragedy)? Not talking to a BP CEO - "Let me speak to the BP CEO pronto, let's see what they are doing, let's see what the power of the US Presidency can offer as help..." Organizing a massive response in the GULF to contain the Oil - protecting sensitive areas?

It is so laughable. The Democrats lied about transparency, taxation, rendition, wiretaps, signing statements, bows to kings, executive orders, fiscal responsibility, GITMO, IRAQ, AFGHANISTAN, AARP support, etc.

We knew they were awful, but no one could predict this level of utter incompetence.

And Nancy Pelosi is bragging she will remain Speaker? Sounds like the best challenge for the US Public to prove her wrong.

""Patently false. If the Tea Party mentality held sway, we'd be drilling in ANWR and closer to the shore in shallower water, so this disaster would never have happened. "

Patently stupid.

The US imports over 60% of the oil we use. There's not enough oil in ANWR and shallow water to bring us down to 0% imports. Hence, we'd be drilling in deep water.

And it wasn't his fault. It was BP's well and their frigging responsibility to do the job right, not the government's.

You can't support small government and then complain that it isn't doing enough for the people.

The right is in full knee-jerk mode on Obama, they will oppose absolutely anything and everything he does. This is partisan politics at it's worst.

So drilling in shallow waters prevents rig explosions. Who knew?
I guess you can't deny that what he said was absolutely true so you change the subject . Awrighty then.

So Pres. Obama doesn't like "some folks" and "some in Congress". Pres. Obama gave the media a talking point through one reporter...not a press conference. I'd rather he just make his argements... say directly. Maybe Facebook posts.... Then we'll know how he really feels...

Obviously several totalitarian trolls in the comments above, refusing reason, scoring dirty points, taunting broken hearts, showing their demonic personalities, and ignoring whole ecologies of fact.

Regrettably, at the principle of this particular issue, the following statements, while meant as insults and taunts, which is irrational on its face and only destructive (per the trolls' follow-up here and elsewhere), are true:

“Some of the same folks who have been hollering and saying ‘do something’ are the same folks who, just two or three months ago, were suggesting that government needs to stop doing so much,” Obama said. “Some of the same people who are saying the president needs to show leadership and solve this problem are some of the same folks who, just a few months ago, were saying this guy is trying to engineer a takeover of our society through the federal government that is going to restrict our freedoms.”

What's reasonable here?

Use oil and gas, clear away obstacles to extraction and transport, including bureaucrats and politicians, use it carefully and cleanly and minimize waste (which is the real nature of this catastrophe, caused in this particular case by faulty engineering parameters, too much nitrogen in the cement on the sea floor and not the usual three layers of it with progressively less nitrogen in the layers going up).

Clear away obstacles and "incentives" for initiative to create, ramp up, or not, non-fossil energy sources of all kinds.

But reason has nothing to do with it now, as the personality who hurled those words and the trolls here stabbing them in deeper testify. Pelosi will remain Speaker in 2011 and the personality who hurled those words will occupy the White House for as long as they want and the families who put them there want them there. Until God decides otherwise.

It is true, self-described conservatives and those related have been criticizing the Executive Branch for failure of leadership, for incompetence, for lack of compassion, and calling for strong Executive response to the catastrophe. Their failure to realize that this catastrophe is tailor-made for the families who created this Congress and Executive renders their criticisms always wide of the mark. Those families may(!) not have intentionally caused this catastrophe, but they sure do know how to exploit it, to corner more markets and votes, extend command and control and as the demonic personality said, "... engineer a takeover of our society through the federal government that is going to restrict our freedoms.”

That's exactly what they are doing. There is no incompetence, no lack of leadership or compassion. There is only stone cold calculation on how to increase the misery and confusion, deepen division, increase irrationality, extend fear and sorrow and fleece the area. Fleece, fleece, fleece.

And the real goal in all of that, everything they are doing? Prince Charlie has been enunciating it for years: reduce population by one third to one half ASAP and by any means available. The entire Federal Government today is a death panel, as are many state governments. Not even the Armed Forces will side with liberty. Population reduction is totalitarians' final solution to deficits and disasters: bring on more and more deficiency. The personalities promoting that program are the deficiencies, the Drummond Pikes, James Cones, Bob Dylans, Paul McCartneys, Bill Ayerses and Prince Charlies and their hirelings in education, government and industry.

The failure this week to stop the EPA was the tipping point. It's over now. The trolls have it. The demonic personalities are in full and complete charge until The Lord God Himself decides to wipe them out and leads the battle to accomplish that mission. I hate to say it, it breaks my heart, but that's the truth. I love my country, my mother country, but she's been killed by her own children's laziness in failing to protect her from illegitimates who got in among them. Perhaps she will be resurrected. We'll see. Right now she is stone cold dead and her murderers are dancing on her grave, as here with these trolls.

The Government Dealing with an oil gusher is not most people's idea of it "restricting our freedoms", it's one of the few examples of how it can actually protect them.

Along with things like a robust military and defense department. Obama seems to want to scale back and drag his feet in matters such as these. But when it comes to examples of how Government CAN and DOES restrict our freedoms, such as it getting involved in health care, student loans, etc, etc. -- that's when he truly and genuinely "goes off".

Obama is at his core anti-liberty. Not that that's news to anyone.

Troll alert on several aisles above.

"Americans are smart enough to know there's a big difference between how the government reacts in a major disaster, or a war, versus how it encroaches into their lives more and more on any given day."

Effin' A. Helping with an oil spill that threatens the ecology and the livelihoods of, say, the shrimp fishermen, is the federal government's job--they're supposed to be the metaphorical janitorial system that keeps things running smoothly by dusting, mopping up the excess oil, etc. Telling us, say, what toilet paper we can use and telling that it's "essential" to the whole machine working, which we are then not allowed to run ourselves because they think we're all too stupid...less so.

Stonetools - it's not the explosion that shallow water drilling would have prevented, it's the avoidance of all the difficulties that deep water operations entail. If you can't understand that drilling many thousands of feet below the surface creates an entirely different level of difficulties, greatly restricting the solution space, I can only conclude you have zero experience in the area, and I only wonder why you assume that you do? Go to Amazon and read about any deep water operation of *any* sort - e.g. an attempted submarine rescue - it will be full of examples.

Straw man alert:

Tea Partiers are not anarchists.

The Gulf oil spill is a catastrophic environmental disaster invloving an international corporation in national waters that will wreak havoc multiple states. If ever there were an appropriate for the federal government, it is in situations such as this one.

But once again, government has failed us, and the POTUS is pointing his finger at the people who have dared to complain.

"The Government Dealing with an oil gusher is not most people's idea of it "restricting our freedoms", it's one of the few examples of how it can actually protect them."

How? You think the Government knows more about drilling oil wells in 5,000 foot deep water than BP does -- who actually does it for a frigging living? There's not a lot of companies with expertise at drilling in 5,000 feet of water - the Government ain't one of them -- but BP is.

It's BP mess, they're the experts in deep-water drilling, they can fix the damn thing.

Drill, Baby, Drill!!!

Worst President ever

"How? You think the Government knows more about drilling oil wells in 5,000 foot deep water than BP does -- who actually does it for a frigging living?"

Of course.

After all, you and your fellow Obama puppets insist that you have to "inspect", "regulate", and make "standards" for these wells down to the minutiae level.

Since you can write the laws that these companies have to meet, the standards that they have to obey, and the step-by-step regulations that they have to follow to do anything, why WOULDN'T you know more?

Or.....are you now trying to spin that the government that was forcing BP to follow the laws, demanding BP obey every single standard, and there physically ensuring that BP followed every step that the government wrote down in the regulations on how to drill an oil well in 5,000-foot deep water.....didn't have a clue about what it was doing?

That's what makes you really funny, WPE. You and your fellow Obama puppets insist that government is all-powerful and all-knowing and should thus run and regulate everything....but then, when it blows up in your face, you start buck-passing, insisting that government doesn't know anything and doesn't have the power to do anything.

That's what makes you really funny, NDT. You and your fellow Tea-Bagger puppets insist that The Market is is all-powerful and all-knowing and should be unleaashed of regulations to run and do as it wants....but then, when it blows up in your face, you start buck-passing, insisting that it's Obama's fault and government fix the screwups.

Tea-Baggers -- Against Big Government before they Were For it.

Well take a look Mr. President, your bigger government can’t seem to do “d*ck” .. would a smaller government do any worse ?

"You and your fellow Tea-Bagger puppets insist that The Market is is all-powerful and all-knowing and should be unleaashed of regulations to run and do as it wants"

And we're quite right.

Case in point:

"Three days after the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico, the Dutch government offered to help.

It was willing to provide ships outfitted with oil-skimming booms, and it proposed a plan for building sand barriers to protect sensitive marshlands.

The response from the Obama administration and BP, which are coordinating the cleanup: “The embassy got a nice letter from the administration that said, ‘Thanks, but no thanks,'” said Geert Visser, consul general for the Netherlands in Houston......

Federal law has also hampered the assistance. The Jones Act, the maritime law that requires all goods be carried in U.S. waters by U.S.-flagged ships, has prevented Dutch ships with spill-fighting equipment from entering U.S. coastal areas."

And it gets better.

"While the skimmers should soon be in use, the plan for building sand barriers remains more uncertain. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal supports the idea, and the Coast Guard has tentatively approved the pro-ject. One of the proposals being considered was developed by the Dutch marine contractor Van Oord and Deltares, a Dutch research institute that specializes in environmental issues in deltas, coastal areas and rivers. They have a strategy to begin building 60-mile-long sand dikes within three weeks.

That proposal, like the offer for skimmers, was rebuffed but later accepted by the government. BP has begun paying about $360 million to cover the costs. Once again, though, the Jones Act may be getting in the way. American dredging companies, which lack the dike-building expertise of the Dutch, want to do the work themselves, Visser said."

The market says that the people who are best at the job should do it regardless of nationality. The Obama Party says that performance doesn't matter and that nationality should be the primary determinant.

So who would do a better job in this case -- the market, which would get the people who are best at doing the job to do it, or the Obama Party government, who doesn't care how good you are at doing the job if you're of the wrong nationality?

And finally, WPE, YOU wanted control. YOUR Obama Party wanted control of the activity. YOU and your Barack Obama said that the government was the most-qualified to handle anything of the sort.

What conservatives are demanding that you do is to DO WHAT YOU PROMISED TO DO IN THE FIRST PLACE.

If you weren't competent to do it, why did you demand the power for it? Hm?

Cool, deleting my comments.

Funniest thing? BP's so frigging stupid they self-insured. Can you say bankruptcy?

Tea-Baggers have been tellling us for months government can't do anything right, that you just have to let The Market work its Magic and life will be find. Now, in the midst of the biggest environmental disastor in US history, caused by the 4th largest company in the world, Tea-Baggers want government o fix it all. Guess that "Can't Do Anything Right" is just BS. Tea-bagger, that's a synonum for hypocrite.

But BP did lobby its ass off to keep Congress from passing more safety measures. Thy stopped the remote-control shut-off cause it would've cost $500,000 per well. I think they'd like to have that one back.

You know who was frigging right: JIMMY CARTER who said in 1977:

Two days from now, I will present my energy proposals to the Congress. Its members will be my partners and they have already given me a great deal of valuable advice. Many of these proposals will be unpopular. Some will cause you to put up with inconveniences and to make sacrifices.

The most important thing about these proposals is that the alternative may be a national catastrophe. Further delay can affect our strength and our power as a nation.

Drill, Baby, Drill!!!

Getting desperate, aren't you, WPE?

Your Barack Obama Party insisted that government could fix everything. Your Barack Obama Party demanded power over industry. Your Barack Obama Party said it was smarter than everyone else and should run everything.

Now that you're actually being asked to put up, you scream and spin and try to blame other people for the fact that you are too incompetent to do anything of the sort.

You and your Barack Obama are liars and failures, WPE. You are desperate and flinging insults for the same reason that con-men and charlatans have for years -- you lied to the public, you failed, and now you're looking like complete and utter fools.

You shouldn't have lied and said you had the expertise. You shouldn't have demanded power when you were too incompetent to use it. Now that all this has happened, you have to accept responsibility for the first time in your lives, and you're reverting to the spoiled, infantile brats that you are.

And that's what this is really about, WPE.

Your Obama Party owns this. You wrote the regulations, you made the standards, and you demanded that the oil companies do exactly what you commanded.

And now, when they did what you said and this happened, you can't figure out how to fix it.

You took the power away from the market. Now you're whining and screaming that it's the market's fault for your screwing up, like an idiot brat of a teenager who insists that his parents are at fault for him wrecking his car because they gave it to him.

Do you really think the American public is reacting well to Obama blaming them for the oil spill?

You're delusional. The problem is what BP didn't do. BP cut corners to save money and it ended in disaster.

can we have a new rule where we ignore any poster who refers to the tea party members as "tea-baggers"? Let's be honest here, if you can not debate your opponent without naming them after a sexual act (don't lie here my man, we both know that is why you use the term!) then your argument is just not on solid footing. This poster should go back to the sand box and let the adults duke it out using facts / figures / logic! (note I am not saying that all on the left are incapable of this)

Here's some facts for you:

1. Conservatives started a party named the Tea Party
2. They're first major act was requesting people to send a TEA BAG to the White House. And to “Tea Bag the Fools in D.C.”
-- See here: https://americansforprosperity.org/030209-after-tea-party-what-you-can-do-stop-tax-and-spend-bailouts
3. Hence the term, Tea-Baggers
4. In fact, there are multiple pictures of Tea Party members carrying signs referencing Tea-Bags and Tea-Bagging

Yup. WPE's only purpose in screaming "tea-baggers" over and over again is to try to smear honest, hard-working American voters with sexual slurs. It really shows you the juvenile attitude of the left and how their incompetence and immaturity is totally inappropriate for rational adult discourse.

I'm sorry. Did I hurt your feelings. Poor Tea-Baggers. Maybe next time, before using "send Tea-bags to Washington" and sending one of your leaders on TV with two tea-bag for props, you should use Google to figure out what the words actually mean.

But I understand your sensitivity to the imagery. Seems like every month it turns out another conservative / Republican is gay. Really, how moronic would you have to be to be Gay and a member of the Tea Party. Talk about self-hating.

And NDT calling for "rational adult discourse" proves irony really isn't dead.

"I'm sorry. Did I hurt your feelings. Poor Tea-Baggers."

Not really.

We just find it hilarious that the party that endorses drugging and raping underage children, demanding and having sex with your office staff and interns, and employs outright pedophiles is so desperate to start flinging sexual slurs.

Meanwhile, actually, what would be even more "self-hating" would be the insistence that your minority status so limits your intellect and ability to comprehend that you must always obey and follow the Obama Party line. But oddly enough, that's what homophobes like WPE insist; they demand that gays do the bidding of the Obama Party and never disagree, or they punish them.
