Is Washington Whispering Obama's Name?

There is always whispering in Washington. John Batchelor's primary sources are often journalists. I'd wager this is what some of them are whispering about Obama right now. As troubling as it might sound, much of it can be found in the narrative of various news stories. And it isn't a great leap from how many people view Obama these days. Disturbing and mesmerizing whispering that the Oval Office is the scene of stormy and romantic melodrama between POTUS and his most senior and trusted advisers. Whispering that POTUS is sleeping poorly and is much aggrieved at slights, shortfalls, interruptions. Whispering that POTUS is vulnerable to jet lag. That POTUS has returned to chain-smoking. That POTUS hesitates to heed his advisers, because POTUS frets that he is being sand-bagged by experts, allies, confidantes. Whispering that POTUS frailties most in display in West Wing settings. That POTUS evidences a Nixonian persecution mania. Can any of this be confirmed? Not easily. Less detailed, POTUS is said to express his opinion to pals in Chicago that he dislikes his job. Wilder whisperings that some pros are now weighing that POTUS try an LBJ exit after one term - rather than face a Carter collapse.

If Boxer loses in November Obama will not be running for re-election, and it won't be his choice. The party went to the mat for Clinton, but that was during economic good times. The press WILL, however, go to the mat for Obama which will make a most excellent circular firing squad. Trade in your gold for popcorn.

And there's always a way to take out someone. It takes the Whitehouse weeks to come up with most positions but they had no problem kicking Helen Thomas to the side of the road at first opportunity. An apology was never going to be good enough because they really liked Helen's obnoxious questions to the Bushies but weren't going to put up with it themselves. I'm sure they feel like they're the 'good guys' so shouldn't be questioned.

POTUS looks like 8 different kinds of hell, so I believe the sleeping poorly part for sure. And I have no trouble believing he is whining day and night, feels persecuted, and that he doesn't like (and can't handle) the first actual job he's had since his days at Baskin Robbins.
