Dana, Dana, my dear boy. If you're going to try and attack someone, Dick Armey in this case, by suggesting they don't know their American History:
Who knew they had socialists in 1607?
- it would be helpful if you knew, ... American History via Cato. I knew this one and I'm just a blogger, not a Washington journalist, like you! heh! It also speaks to why property rights are so critical to individual liberty in America. But then, I'm guessing you don't know much about that, either.
Actually, lots of people know this. As I wrote three years ago:
The land was lush and fertile, yet within three years most of the colonists died during what came to be known as “the starving time.” Only the establishment of private property saved the Jamestown colony.

Same with Plimouth Plantation:
"The women now went willingly into the field"

Unfortunately, utopianists never learn.

Give the man some grace. He was no doubt educated in a public school.
(I was too, but I got my real education on my own.)

Yes, the Bradford account of the move from socialism to private property in Mass is one of the greatest American stories ever told.
