I'm really starting to worry about Dick Armey. Is he feeling okay? He tried to portray McCain as a conservative worthy of endorsement, now Sarah Palin, among others, is old news? If anything, she's one of the youngest and freshest faces we've seen in a while.
I've posted that the leadership of the conservative movement is out of step and in need of renewal. This doesn't do a lot to change that opinion. Pawlenty?? Really?? He isn't new, he's just so boring no one notices him every time out. My real guess is Armey is setting up one of the other two here and tossed Pawlenty in for cover.
"I think Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin, and Mike Huckabee are old news," says Dick Armey, the former House GOP leader who chairs FreedomWorks, one of the larger tea-party organizers.
Talking to us from his home in Texas, Armey suggests that three governors are poised to win over the movement and potentially get the nomination to take on President Obama. "I don't know for sure who it is, but I've had my eye on [Minnesota Gov. Tim] Pawlenty because Pawlenty has the opportunity to be a blank slate," says Armey. He also likes Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, both fiscal hawks. "Haley is an absolute natural for this movement," says Armey. As for Palin, he says, "I don't think she intends to run for president."

I have no beef with Pawlenty, but really, do Republicans need a blank slate? I think that's what got the Dems in trouble.

hmmm the leadership is going to go kicking and screaming to the changing of the guards. this people screwed up. their ideas have lead to $14 trillion in debt, 2 wars we are unable to "win" massive infusion of governmental power at the expanse of individual liberty, run away illegal immigration, a budget that will and is imploding, taxes so high that a man can barely keep his head above water and the first time in 70 years that parents will be unable to leave their children in a better finacial condition.
All these old gaurds like armey, McConell, bronher, Bush, Mitt they all need to go.
Mitch danials was terrible on Neil caveto's show. Just awful. T-paw is so boring Obama would skate to an easy victory. Barbour is tied to the south for good or bad I don't think a southern candidate can win.
All of these candidates do have something in common they are all bought and paid for by the GOP. Palin isn't.
why the GOp would sacrifice their biggest fund rasier, with the most vocal support for someone like T-paw is beyond me unless they are worried she would be uncontrolable by the special interests.
Armey is the old news here. his 15 min on the national scene came and went 4 years ago. he needs to retire

He's always been a flake. Just a few short years ago he was claiming that Bush and Cheney lied us into a war with Iraq. Now he's some sort of conservative elder statesman instead of being treated like Ron Paul. Regardless of the elephant symbol, I'm starting to think that conservatives have a very short memory.

Now Armey is supporting the liberal amnesty-pusher Pawlenty. Figures.

Dick Armey was great in the House, but let's face it, what did he and Newt do to change the culture?
Less than the Zima Guy, that's what.
As Conservatives, we may be looking at a House Majority come this fall. The question is, what do we do with it, and how do we and the TEA people hold a new majority to Account before the K Street crowd starts dropping the hookers by the freshmen's offices.
One of the problems I have with RedState's people is that they are into Conservative Republican Victory for its own sake without realizing what happens if the culture in our party doesn't change. The D's don't give a damn when they win, they just want the power to spend and sleep with the best hookers for free.
We have to DESERVE the best hookers, dammit!

It should be noted that Dick Armey endorsed and campaigned for Kay Bailey Hutchison in her primary challange to Rick Perry. KBH lost by a landslide. Palin endorsed, and campaigned for Rick Perry. While Armey's campaign stops for KBH were relatively small, Palin's one rally with Perry drew 8,000+ on Super Bowl Sunday. Among those who also endorsed KBH were Bush 41, Barbara Bush, Karl Rove, Dick Chaney, and most of the Bush machine. Perry's only big name endorsement was Palin. I suspect that Armey and the Bushes are pretty PO'd that they lost in such a humiliating way, especially since they have been touting Jeb Bush for a presidential run in 2012. Given the almost non-stop hammering of Palin over the last ten days, it wouldn't surprise me if the Bush machine wasn't involved some how.

agreed. thebushies are trying to keep control of the party. It is time that we allow the party to resume the Reagan revolution under someone like Palin. until others come on the national scene that has the "it" factor, and campaigns on Reagan ideas Palin is the army we go to war with. there isn't any others out there talking like her. she is the only one that actually believes and has goverened like Reagan. All the others pay Reagan lip service then spend and govern like libs.

Dick Armey is one of the old men of the last century who have no future in American conservative politics. He can jump on the Tea Party bandwagon but he doesn't steer it.
