so hard to reconcile the congitive dissonance of promoting abortion, based on cost analysis, but ignoring the fact that the primary focus of govt funded abortions are minorities.

why not go a step further and pay for minority abortions? it sounds racist, but I'm not the one who is trying to save money by practicing eugenics.

World economies will improve and benefit greatly if we can root out corruption. Think of the trillions of dollars that are being wasted by corrupt politicians/governments. That is the problem.

Why kill the innocent babies to save the economy. Why not punish the corrupt governments/politicians.

If we must kill to save the economy, why not focus on the guilty parties...

meatbrain-
(where)tf is the straw man in the argument?

providing free abortions, for the sake of the economy. this is like providing affirmative action abortions.

instead of promoting a race, it is terminating it.

I'm sorry that people, other than you, find it a less than noble endeavor.

@meatbrain,

Dear God how many times do I have to constantly teach progressives their pathetic history. Once again I have to post some quotes from one of your former leaders of this filthy movement. Enjoy.

"Birth control must lead ultimately to a cleaner race."
Margaret Sanger. Woman, Morality, and Birth Control. New York: New York Publishing Company, 1922. Page 12.

"We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don't want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population. and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members."
Margaret Sanger's December 19, 1939 letter to Dr. Clarence Gamble, 255 Adams Street, Milton, Massachusetts.

"Eugenic sterilization is an urgent need ... We must prevent multiplication of this bad stock."
Margaret Sanger, April 1933 Birth Control Review.

"Birth control itself, often denounced as a violation of natural law, is nothing more or less than the facilitation of the process of weeding out the unfit, of preventing the birth of defectives or of those who will become defectives."

"Our failure to segregate morons who are increasing and multiplying ... demonstrates our foolhardy and extravagant sentimentalism ... [Philanthropists] encourage the healthier and more normal sections of the world to shoulder the burden of unthinking and indiscriminate fecundity of others; which brings with it, as I think the reader must agree, a dead weight of human waste. Instead of decreasing and aiming to eliminate the stocks that are most detrimental to the future of the race and the world, it tends to render them to a menacing degree dominant ... We are paying for, and even submitting to, the dictates of an ever-increasing, unceasingly spawning class of human beings who never should have been born at all."
Margaret Sanger. The Pivot of Civilization, 1922. Chapter on "The Cruelty of Charity," pages 116, 122, and 189. Swarthmore College Library edition.

Too long ago? Okay how about this?

“Frankly I had thought that at the time Roe was decided, there was concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don’t want to have too many of,” Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

"The most prominent of these, the Ku Klux Klan, was formed in Pulaski, Tennessee, in 1865. Originally founded as a social club for former Confederate soldiers, the Klan evolved into a terrorist organization. It would be responsible for thousands of deaths, and would help to weaken the political power of Southern blacks and Republicans." - from the American Experience website run by PBS, not known for its right wing slant, http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/grant/peopleevents/e_klan.html

Nazi - Nationalsozialismus an ideology of the NSDAP or National Socialist German Workers Party Sounds like a dang leftist union to me!

"Adding a sterilant to drinking water or staple foods is a suggestion that seems to horrify people more than most proposals for involuntary fertility control. Indeed, this would pose some very difficult political, legal, and social questions, to say nothing of the technical problems. No such sterilant exists today, nor does one appear to be under development. To be acceptable, such a substance would have to meet some rather stiff requirements: it must be uniformly effective, despite widely varying doses received by individuals, and despite varying degrees of fertility and sensitivity among individuals; it must be free of dangerous or unpleasant side effects; and it must have no effect on members of the opposite sex, children, old people, pets, or livestock." - John Holdren, Obama's Science Czar

How about all you lying progressives when you say you championed Civil Rights? Here's a quote you won't find in text books:

“I’ll have them niggers voting Democrat for the next two hundred years.”
Circa 1964, President Lyndon Baines Johnson’s vow after he signed into law civil rights legislation.
Inside the White House, Ronald Kessler, Simon & Schuster, p. 33. LBJ

But here's a quote that all people of color should embrace and its from one of my American heroes:

In his campaign speeches he said " every colored man who has a vote to cast, would cast that vote for the regular Republican Party and thus bury the Democratic Party so deep that there will not be seen even a bubble coming from the spot where the burial took place." Robert Smalls

History is repeating itself. The Progressives are modern day Tories, slave owners and advocates. Consider folks like Dan and others like Abolitionists and Colonial Patriots.

We will abolish abortion and we will conquer the progressive movement.

Also back in the '30s and '40s progressives backed the Nazis and Communists, go figure. Today they back Islamists. So keep pushing your stupidity and ramming bills down our throats. We will just throw them up.

It must suck to have the entire media, entertainment industry all branches of government and the educational system and you still have a hell of a time getting your agenda done. And when you do get it done it's through illegal bribes, kickbacks and "rules" done late at night.

What a pathetic lot you are.

Yes, I know its not really about the life of a child, this abortion rights thing. It's really always been about control. We women are no longer chatel. We are free. We are strong. We are in control. But a little voice in my head keeps asking, "Should women really be expressing their strength, their control and their freedom by killing their children?". Apparently the libs feel this is the case. I can't imagine how many potential libs have been eliminated this way. Seems self defeating.

"Dan Riehl has constructed a particularly flimsy and transparently obvious straw man here."
Really, meatbrain, Really?
In actuality Dan is speaking knowledge to morons like you...instead of meatbrain you're real handle should be meathead.

Our population has been brainwashed and taught lies. Most women in the feminist movement have no idea that the movement began as a means to destroy the family. That was the goal. They wanted to weed the "undesireables" out but they told women that abortion was all about women having "choice" and power over her body.

These people do not read. They believe what they are told and cannot open their mind to the idea that they have been deceived because if they do this, their entire lives will be built on lies.

You have to be brave to want to learn the truth.

Another thing, every woman I have ever known who has had an abortion has been damaged for life. They never get over it. It stays with them all the time. What a victory for women--being tortured for the remainder of your life for the right to choose to end a life.

"(where)tf is the straw man in the argument?"

Right here:

"Who needs all those ghetto babies running around looking for food. We've already convinced them they will never amount to anything. So, they may as well die and be done with it."

Riehl accuses (conveniently unnamed) "leftists" of espousing views that no one has espoused. These invented views are his straw man. Riehl does this because he is neither intelligent enough nor honest enough to debate the merits of the health care reform bills on their contents. It is likely that he does not know what the bills actually contain.

forgive him if he narrates the deed.

is that the secret of getting away with it?
so long as you never verbally express the obvious, there is no cuplability?

it would be like ignoring a serial killer, becuase he never tells his victim that he is a murderer.

facta, non verba.

please explain why libs love abortion. if you come close to the truth, you'll find there is no strawman. stupak has said that the consideration that the left has tried to make to him is that it is an economic choice.

'abort more poor...ie. minorities.'

[What are Democratic leaders saying? “If you pass the Stupak amendment, more children will be born, and therefore it will cost us millions more. That’s one of the arguments I’ve been hearing,” Stupak says. “Money is their hang-up. Is this how we now value life in America? If money is the issue — come on, we can find room in the budget. This is life we’re talking about.”]

lol @ meathead

Falsely accuse Dan of a logical fallacy - erecting a strawman, and then immediately offer us one of your own - ad hominem:

"It is especially amusing to see Dan Riehl, a "man" who admits he let his gay brother die alone, call anyone else "vile"."

Classic projection from leftists is always amusing.

Dan, you're a rotten SOB........but sometimes we need rotten SOBs......and I thank you for speaking out on this.

I agree with Lisa Graas Dan! But we need you all the same!

i propose a middle-ground to presenting the argument...

let's just call it "thinning the herd".

one other case of cognitive dissonance, for libs to resolve...

here they are creating a country of opportunity for all, while simultaneously creating a class of those who would be better off, not being born.

not a very hopeful picture for the opportunities for economic redemption along the way.
education, family life, and opportunities (that the dems would hope to legistlate) versus the assessment of a the aborted being a finanical drain on society.

it is the most epic failure of liberalism. instead of sweeping it under the rug, they just wrap it in a biohazard bag.

"stupak has said that the consideration that the left has tried to make to him is that it is an economic choice."

So he claims -- but Bart Stupak is a proven liar: http://bit.ly/aGRAHg
