Barry Lynn, Executive Director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, compares Obama's campaign rhetoric with his actions in office, going on to blast Obama as they don't add up. Gee, ya think? Congratulations, Lynn. Nice of you to finally figure out who the rubes are. heh! How does it feel?
Why does President Barack Obama support a policy that lets a Baptist homeless shelter take tax dollars and then refuse to hire Jews, Hindus or nonbelievers to change the sheets or ladle out the morning oatmeal? Particularly when it violates a clear campaign promise.
In 2008, candidate Obama told an audience in Zanesville, Ohio, that he would make major changes in the way religious entities were funded. Under President George W. Bush's "faith-based" program, government grants and contracts went to religious groups to provide social services, even when those groups insisted on discriminatory hiring practices -- applicants could be denied federally funded jobs, based solely on religious affiliation or beliefs.
During his presidential campaign, Obama specifically promised that "if you get a federal grant, you can't use that grant money to proselytize to the people you help and you can't discriminate against them -- or against the people you hire -- on the basis of their religion."
This sounded pretty unequivocal. But more than a year has gone by since Obama set up his Office of Faith Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, and no substantive policy has been changed, least of all discriminatory hiring.

Yes, I always turn to groups with names like 'Americans United for Separation' for straight talk on anything.

Do people truly understand the "separation of Church and State"? The fact that there is NO mandated religion by the government and we do have freedom of choice to practice or not practice a particular religion is all there is to that!

richardmcenroe! Good catch on the incongruous name.;-0
Now that he's in the Oval office our boy genius is finding out that it's a helluvalot harder to satisfy all the contentious groups he pandered to in order to get elected by slinging brickbats pell-mell at every aspect of George W. Bush's governance. Of course, it's easy to be a boy genius when the only genuine responsibility you've ever undertaken in your life is indulging in the habitually hypocritical & wildly indiscriminate criticism of how all the other guys have undertaken theirs. Quite a bit harder to take on the job yourself & actually be held accountable for how you do it for once in your life. Welcome to adulthood, Barack.
