As Donors Flee, Is Obama Positioning To Break The Law?

Before linking the new Politico item below, for reference, you might recall an old problem Gore had when he ran against Bush. It involved fundraising and the White House.

Mr. Gore said the Vice President, like the President, is exempt from the Federal Hatch Act, which makes it illegal for most other Federal officials to raise money for campaigns. And he used legalistic language, which he repeated verbatim several times, to say he had not violated another law that prohibits anybody from raising campaign money in the White House.

''My counsel advises me that there is no controlling legal authority or case that says there was any violation of law whatsoever,'' Mr. Gore said.

Fast-forward to today - a Politico item indicates WH Social Secretary Desiree Rogers was bounced for being one part of the fundraising meltdown Obama has brought about for the Dems. But it's also her replacement that caught my eye. With his former campaign finance director, Julianna Smoot, taking over the WH social secretary spot, how much would you like to bet that some legal lines meant to not be crossed are about to be erased?

Elite donors dodge the DNC

But a previously undisclosed gripe about her provides another explanation for her abrupt departure last month: Some of Obama’s biggest fundraisers, already chafing at not getting enough love from the administration, didn’t even get Christmas cards last year.

“The donors rose up, and that was another reason Desiree got pushed out,” said a source close to the White House.

While such a slight may seem insignificant, it can carry major repercussions in a year when the Democratic National Committee is going to need every possible resource to help the party’s congressional committees stave off major losses in the midterm elections.

The White House recently sent what could be a rallying call to its donors when it appointed Julianna Smoot, the president’s campaign finance director, to replace Rogers as social secretary.

Smoot brings a variety of strengths to the job: She’s detail-oriented, she’s a strong manager, and she knows both the political and the donor worlds.

(I channeling my inner Joe Pesci Leo Getz) Okay, Okay, not to worry, I have a plan to fund the DNC. First we get a couple of fascist billionaires who hate America, like Soros, to give a billion dollars or so. Then we deposit the money into foreign bank accounts. See, See? Then we have the bank issue debit cards off those account and they can be used to donate to the campaigns like at twenty dollars a pop! Not too big to cause questions, just a bunch of little denotations from foreigners. See. See? Easy! What? Don't believe me? We did it in 2008 and nobody even twitched.

This walkin talkin piece of porcine poop is on the warpath. Ginning up any sort of political chasm he can create (domestic and international).
