If I didn't have a habit of choosing my words so carefully, I might say it looks as if there's a lynching going on in blue New York.
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- Gov. David Paterson is getting little support from Albany's other top Democrats as he fights what he calls attacks on his character.
Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is refusing to comment Tuesday on reports in blogs and news accounts of womanizing and drug use by the governor. Cuomo's office also won't comment on whether he supports Paterson.
Many Democrats have voiced wishes that Cuomo run for governor instead of Paterson, who took the post upon the resignation of Eliot Spitzer.
Republican candidate Rick Lazio says the rumors create a toxic atmosphere that block legislative action. He says no public official should face such unconfirmed personal attacks.

That is what it looks like. And the NYT's willing participation is a disgrace. Since when do news outlets leak about POTENTIAL Stories? Oh that's right, when there isn't a story and they just want to serve their own biases to cause harm to their target.
The leak wasn't handled as a tease, it was a series of leaks meant to cause harm over a potential story, allowing others to come up with their own harmful rumors to fill in the gaps that they will never address.

Well if the New York Times is involved, it's a "low tech" sleazy lynching.
Paterson is a potential embarassment for the Obama wing of the Dem party (heck fire he might actually lose if he runs for re-election) so he has to go. But let's assume that there actually was a lot of action going on in the janitor's closet in the governor's house in Albany. If you don't cover John Edward's jiggy-pokey fooling around with his campaign videographer, then you ought not cover some slap and tickle in the governor's house.
