It's my understanding the Freepers found this. A rather long statement from Joe Stack, who crashed a plane into a building in Texas. h/t Big J in email.
The communist creed: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.
The capitalist creed: From each according to his gullibility, to each according to his greed.

Oh my, this will certainly disrupt the Chrissy/Olbie/Madcow "angry white tea-party racist anti-government kook" meme.
Posted by: A Stephens | Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 02:25 PM
I'm already seeing anti-Tea Party zealots jump on this story as proof that the Tea Party inspires violence See Koz, DU). Predictable.
Setting aside for the moment the disgusting tactic of trying to tarnish millions of American citizens who are lawfully protesting against policies they believe are unfair by associating them with this sick individual, the claim is clearly misplaced.
I've read Stack's manifesto. He hates Bush, is anti-Catholic, is anti-capitalism and pro communism, and doesn't like paying his taxes. Doesn't that make him more like a member of Obama's cabinet than a Tea Party activist?
Posted by: Gregg | Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 02:27 PM
I read his "manifesto". I'm confused as to his sanity, either he is brilliant or he is the victim of his own mind. He blames Dubya, the Catholic church, corporations, the Government and everybody else for his own failures.
Undeclared income? A piano as a business asset? They will make a movie of the week to explain this nut.
Posted by: zaugg | Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 02:32 PM
Spot on, Gregg. I would add that his screed also exposes what we definitively know about liberals and progressives, they love the victim card and rarely accept responsibility for their own circumstances.
Posted by: A Stephens | Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 02:33 PM
Yep Gregg the trolls have jumped onto Hot Air en masse trying to pin this on TeaPartyism, but it's laughable because ideologically, he could be Michael Moore's twin brother. In the end, though, I don't know if mental illness can claim *any* ideology (viz. Andrew Sullivan)

"either he is brilliant or he is the victim of his own mind"
it is the essense of genius. the ability to see relationships that others miss. the only problem is when one's sureity substitutes itslef for reality.
strange quote, worth revisiting:
“We have been the cowards lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That's cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, it's not cowardly.”
bill maher on the 9/11 hijackers.
wonder what bill maher's take will be...
maybe we could get a quote from bill ayers. he apprently has survived his bombing runs.
too bad joe stack died. 25 years from now, he could have been a folk hero, endorsing a president.
the only problem with comparing this to the tea party-
the tea party is trying to convince VOTERS. stack won't be voting, unless he is a registered dem in cook county.

from my own subjective reality...
if the tea party features a collection of radicals, doesn't their effort to demonstrate legally provide an outlet for the movement?
i would imagine that if the lib theory of the tea partiers were true, then if the movement wasn't peacefully organized, their would be a lot more unaffiliated radicals.
god forbid that the act or characteristics of individuals should be acribed to a larger group-it is the same logic of racism.

Let's see:
Blamed a Republican President, check.
Blamed corporate America and capitalism, check.
Blamed the Catholic Church, check.
Blamed the IRS for going after him and not coming down on "greedy" corporations, check.
What about this makes anyone in America think he is right-wing, again? Read his words. Really, really read them. Now read any Obama speech or any special comment transcript from Keith Olbermann or internet rant from Michael Moore.
You tell me what's different.
Joe Stack is why liberalism has failed in this country. We must excise it into the dustbin of history.

It is really too bad this guy took his thoughts so seriously. Yes, there have been abuses of power and corruption with some/many institutions throughout the years; most likely this will not end. C'est la vie. It is too bad that an educated man, an engineer, spent the majority of his life trying to fight for a self-identified cause. It sounds like he lived an empty life mostly in vain. He wanted to be a hero, but ended up a needless pseudomartyr. Poor Mr. Stack's mind -- it was overactive and led to his demise. If only, only he hadn't taken his thoughts so seriously. Rest in peace Mr. Stack, finally, rest, in peace.

The media is going to paint this guy as a right wing anti government type. I guarantee it.
They're going to go with 'anti government/anti tax' and leave out his hatred of Bush, corporations and capitalism.
Conservative bloggers had better get the full story out ASAP or it will be too late.

"A piano as a business asset?" - zaugg at 02:32 PM
His wife Sheryl is a professional pianist and according to a friend of mine, may have even worked part time as the organist at a local church, which no doubt thrilled her religion-hating hubby. I'm wondering if that church work might have been the unreported income that got them into trouble, too. But her husband evidently didn't give much of a damn about her. He left it to a neighbor to rescue her & the 12 y.o. daughter from their burning house this morning.

started reading it, but it actually looked like an obama speech.
"I" seems to be the most used word.
not much difference between a guy who wanted to crash a plane into a building, and a guy who wants to crash an economy-lots of resentment in both. If the defense that arises is that "he is sooo smart", I think I'd puke bile.

I'm a progressive, and I don't follow this site, since I consider it ill-informed factually and wrong-headed theoretically. Nonetheless, I wanted to say that the attempts to sully the message of the tea-baggers in general with this terrorist act is indefensible and disgusting. The perp had complaints which are common enough to many people of all political stripes: the relevant difference is that he nearly murdered his family and tried to kill a bunch of employees. And, really, that is the only relevant fact. I can only say that all sides jump to politicize everything. The Huntsville shooter last week prompted the same inexcusable speculation on all sides.
We really do disagree about things, and the stakes are indeed high. Let the political discussion continue, heated as it may be.
I hope, though, that conspiratorial and nasty recriminations about criminal acts is quickly stamped out in our various political fora. I'm trying on my side; hope y'all will as well.

RIP Joe. You are an American Hero! The IRS needs to think twice before they leave a family with nothing to loose. A man with nothing to loose is a very dangerous man. We came to this county partly to get away from being over taxed. MANY people paid with their lives for that freedom. Not that freedom is being striped away from within by individuals who are corrupt to the bone. Not only do they approve of others with their same ideology, but they actually think that what they are doing is right, and for the greater good. This should be a makeup call America! IT'S TIME TO FIGHT BACK! Out constitution gives us the right to overthrow corrupt individuals in our government, and unless there is bloodshed, IT'S NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN! I'm not pointing my finger at any single democrat or republican, but EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM! They are all corrupt! It's time for a regime change NOW!

Lala: I'm not advocating that we all lay down our disagreements and sing Kumbaya. I'm saying we should stop trying to politicize deranged murders and stuff like that. "Teabagger" as a term of derision is not in this category. Again, we really do not agree, and I really am not proposing that we should, though I would hope that we could all recognize one another as Americans who disagree about how to improve the country, not enemies of the country.
Cheers.

I agree with you Mr. Stack. You're right. The IRS is evil, and the citizens of the U.S. are no more free than the citizens of any other country. You may be wrong about a few minor things, however. A U.S. Representative named Ron Paul is representing you and has represented you in the past. He is fully against the income tax. You are right that the U.S. needs to wake up. What you have done may help us wake up... I hope it does. I don't know if it was the right or good thing for you to do, but I do hope and pray that good comes out of this.

Is the Eric Martin post for real?
No...right?
Maybe someone on my side of the fence is having fun posing as a Ron Paul supporter.
Lame.
It sure does Mr. Paul no favors to suggest this is the kind of thing his message breeds.

Came across this a little while ago
Erick Stakelbeck
CBN News Terrorism Analyst
CBN Exclusive: Five Muslim Soldiers Arrested at Fort Jackson in South Carolina
CBN News has learned exclusively that five Muslim soldiers at Fort Jackson in South Carolina were arrested just before Christmas. It is unclear whether the men are still in custody. The five were part of the Arabic Translation program at the base.
The men are suspected of trying to poison the food supply at Fort Jackson.
A source with intimate knowledge of the investigation, which is ongoing, told CBN News investigators suspect the "Fort Jackson Five" may have been in contact with the group of five Washington, DC area Muslims that traveled to Pakistan to wage jihad against U.S. troops in December. That group was arrested by Pakistani authorities, also just before Christmas.
Coming as it does on the heels of November's Fort Hood jihadist massacre, this news has major implications.
Stay tuned to this blog for more details.

This is not a left-wing right-wing act. If you don't agree with the IRS, you can refuse to pay taxes, but they will come for you, and oh yes, you will pay. How much different is that from armed robbery? When did we give The Federal Government the right to rob us? Why are we paying to bail out the rich who, through their own incompetence went bankrupt? Are you mad as hell? Well what are you going to do about it? That's what I thought.
Posted by: taxman by the beatles | Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 11:32 PM
Typical,
You are free, and if you refuse to be victimized, you're not taking responsibility. Question the establishment? We'll put you in a box, write "Liberal" on it, and then Lob all the straw-man arguments we can find in our pack-o-talking points?
Example:
He's anti-republican.
No, he's anti-politician. ALL of them, that parts pretty clear.
He's anti-catholic
Close, but the larger point was that he was anti-rich people not having to pay taxes while they break him
IRS went down on him while not going after "greedy " corporations.
It's true. GM keeps producing junk while he went out of business.
Pro Communist / Anti Capitalist
Now there's a straw man that needs a brain. Read it again, he's anti-both. (or at least anti the trickle-down-socialism which we're forced to call "capitalism" less we be labeled communists). The point was that the current practice of capitalism isn't too different.
And besides... here's a crazy idea. Why don't you put a little more effort into addressing his ideas, rather than just looking for labels to discredit him with? Man, before reading you idiots I would have said this guy had a few good ideas who completely wasted all of them. Martyrdom just doesn't carry the same kind of weight in America. Now..... I'm just scared of how real all that brainwashing he spoke of really is.

All new media patriots should prepare for what the Left will be doing with this Stack crash… I expect the worst, especially online.
I have noticed a few blog message sections had a 1st, prompt message pretending to be a conservative sympathizing with Stack’s motives somewhat… MoveOn/DNC trolls, imho
Another blog bud had some guy come on there and rail against him for not showing enough sympathy for the victims, etc… when the accusation had no connection with reality at all, just lib spin and slander-
Oh, to be a fly on the wall of David Plouffe’s office right now…

Of course I'm for real. Ron Paul wouldn't support Mr. Stack's attack, but he would support an end to the Federal Income tax, which seems to be Mr. Stack's main grievance according to his manifesto.

US Constitution, Article I, Section 8: "The Congress shall have the power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts, excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States."
Amendment 16: "The Congress shall have the power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census of enumeration."
I hope that answers your questions about where the power to tax comes from.

To 'Eric Martin' -
If you're finding any sort of cohesive argument or point in this guy's rant - then you must be looking really hard for it.
Glad to hear Ron Paul is against domestic terrorism.
But as for you...still 'don't know if it was the right or good thing...to do'?

Have you noticed how things said in his manifesto seem to all be taken straight from Michael Moore movies?
Anti-health care system= Sicko
Anti-Capitalism= Capitalism, a Love Story
IRS cronyism with businesses= Capitalism, a Love Story
Anti-Bush= Fahrenheit 9/11
Blames Big Corporations for job issues= The Big One
Posted by: Sophie | Friday, February 19, 2010 at 02:16 PM
Sophie -
I think you are the only one who 'noticed' that.
I noticed that if you circle all the right letters in his manifesto you can spell
'Obama is pretty'.
I mean...think about it!
