Stacy McCain looks at another aspect of Troy King's problems in Alabama. Being originally from NJ, I understand the desire for states to implement various forms of revenue generation - including gambling. The problem is, who is paying to make it happen and how honestly is it being sold? Time was when it was going to rescue NJ financially. How's that working out for them? Politicians spend money faster than they can generate it, so it often solves nothing. But it certainly does fuel government growth.
Suspicion that King is in the pocket of the “gambling bosses” is rampant in Alabama, because (a) King is currently running for re-election, and (b) state law permits what are called “PAC-to-PAC transfers,” so that one political action committee can collect money from casino interests, then make donations to another PAC, which then donates it to a candidate.
The PAC-to-PAC process separates the recipient from the contributor in a way that makes transparency impossible, and yet Troy King’s actions are transparent enough, as the Truth on Troy blog explains:

Time was when it was going to rescue NJ financially. ..
