In what has to be the ugliest post to ever appear on a highly trafficked, allegedly serious political blog, Andrew Sullivan sets a new low for himself, then goes on to surpass it further down in the very same post.
First, he shows an image of Sarah Palin holding her child Trig, equating it with Rahm Emmanuel's recent unfortunate quote because, obviously, to Palin the child is just a "campaign prop." Then he invokes nude model and deadbeat dad, Levi Johnston, as the teller of all truths, as he has before. And still he isn't done venting his hate.
Despite previously published accounts addressing all of the unique names the Palins gave their children, including Trig, Sullivan dismisses the same account from Going Rogue to assert that Palin actually concocted the name specifically to mock her child's unfortunate condition.
Sullivan's Palin obsession is nothing more than hate taking a truly vile, ugly form. And the Atlantic editors that allow it to persist are every bit as responsible, ugly and pathetic, as is the repulsive little faggot Sullivan has become. And he merits the most pejorative slur one can attach to him.
Did she really just call for Rahm Emanuel to be fired because he allegedly used the term "f*cking retarded" to refer to fellow Democrats in a private meeting? Last summer? Did she really?
I don't like the term myself. I think it is offensive. I think Rahm Emanuel is offensive. But at least he's real. And he has now apologized. And at least he used the term metaphorically.
Palin, in contrast, called her own campaign prop "her retarded baby" in private, according to an eye-witness account from the father of her own grandson who lived in her house for months and knew her intimately. "I was just in shock the first time I heard it," Levi Johnston told CBS. Unlike Sarah Palin, Johnston has not been caught in multiple indisputable lies. I believe him over her. In fact, in any factual dispute, I believe anyone over her.
While I'm at it, does anyone actually believe that Palin's name for the child of miraculous provenance was found by her deep knowledge of ancient Norse as she claims in her magical-realism novel, "Going Rogue"? I mean, seriously.
The medical term for Down Syndrome is Trisomy-21 or Trisomy-g. It is often shortened in medical slang to Tri-g.
Is it not perfectly possible that the very name given to this poor child, being reared by Bristol, is another form of mockery of his condition, along with the "retarded baby" tag? And does the way in which this poor child was hauled around the country on a book tour, being dragged out in front of flash photographs in the middle of the night, barely clothed, suggest someone who actually cares for children with special needs, or rather sees them as a way to keep the spotlight on her?
C'mon, Levi. Write that book. Expose this fraud.

My word, what a evil, hateful person his is.

"Did she really just call for Rahm Emanuel to be fired because he allegedly used the term "f*cking retarded" to refer to fellow Democrats in a private meeting? Last summer? Did she really?"
as far as I'm concerned, rahm was speaking 'truth to power'.

Andrew Sullivan has an excuse for writing this sputum-drenched blather of frothing psychosis: he's crazier than a meth house rat.
But what's the excuse of the people who're actually choosing to publish this lurid chronicle of progressive dementia & are unethically attempting to pass it off as respectable political opinion journalism to their advertisers? Have they no decency?
Back when I was young and irresponsible, I was a young & irresponsible subscriber to the Atlantic.
Eeeew. That's not likely to be something I'll confess to ever again in public.
This bizarre extended spectacle of Sullivan's precipitous mental decline is far more embarassing to the editorial & publishing staff of the Atlantic than it is to Sarah Palin or for that matter to the clearly disturbed Palin-obsessed author himself. By exploiting Andrew Sullivan's deepening illness to boost the hits to their site, they've destroyed whatever vestigial prestige their publication once enjoyed.
If anybody's starting a betting pool for the date Sullivan gets arrested in front of the Palin house while threatening to castrate Trig for sending Andrew coded anti-gay messages through his tooth fillings, put me down for April 18.
Posted by: leilani | Wednesday, February 03, 2010 at 05:54 PM
I would bet that Trig, at the age of 30, will have a better grasp of reality than Sullivan does today.

Andrew Sullivan is a sad, ungainly eggplant of a man who never, ever had a chance with popular girls like Sarah back in his bad old school days. Low self-esteem, frustration, and finally hatred, has maimed and reduced him to the poisonous toad he is today. With apologies to the reptile community.

There is a simple way for anyone of decency to deal with "Poor Mad Andy"...
NEVER, EVER, click on his web-site again.
He will dry up and blow away...
wait...can I say that...

I agree with Ragspierre, ignore the guy. The only reason he is tolerated at the Atlantic (I hope) is because he drives traffic to see what kind of trash talk he'll post.
I'm tired of hearing about the guy and his posts. He is neither a mover nor a shaker and offers nothing constructive.

Oh brother. Pssst...Sullivan....maybe Sarah Palin was inspired to name her child Trig after receiving a disappointing cholesterol screening (http://www.labtestsonline.org.uk/understanding/analytes/triglycerides/test.html) or because she had a fondness for advanced maths (http://www.math.com/tables/algebra/functions/trig/functions.htm).
When libs are this crazy, it can only be good for conservatives.

Think it's a coincidence that Sullivan gets this idea while the movie "Precious" is in the news? A character in "Precious" is a toddler with Down's Syndrome who is named "Mongo" to mock his condition.

I have a child with Down syndrome and I have never heard any doctor refer to T21 as Tri-g. Nowhere in any of her piles of medical paperwork does this appear. I think the whole medical slang thing might be made up.

The only "retards" are the people who have written these unbelievably horrible responses to Andrew Sullivan's comments. Do any of you have any sort of life that you need to be so disgusting? Get over it...get over it...get over it....why are you so-called "conservatives" so filled with bile? There must be some despotic government somewhere where you would all be happy, I just wish you would all find it and leave the rest of us in peace. There is not one critical thought or reaction in all of these above. UGH....
Posted by: Rich Davis | Thursday, February 04, 2010 at 11:58 AM
What kind of "critical thought or reaction" do you expect from something that is fully in the tin hat area? Andrew Sullivan's Sarah Palin fixation deserves exactly as much critical thought as the birthers or the 9/11 truthers, maybe less.
I do think conservatives would be better served to leave out the gay 'jokes' since it only serves to reinforce the liberal stereotype that all conservatives are homophobes.

I find it odd how no one seems to remember that it was Palin, while Governor of Alaska, who reduced the budget for the "disabled or impaired children." It was easy to reduce spending on these children when you, yourself, had none.

They used to call people of African descent - "colored" or "Negroes" -- those terms became antiquated and people who still use them simply show their age or lack of enlightenment. But the terms "colored" or "Negro" still appear in a few legal texts. Then WE called people of African descent - "Black". Now that is becoming outdated, although I am in my 40's and I still use it interchangeably with "African American" -- which is the modern and politically correct term -- I THINK! (Of course, "Nigger" was meant to be derogatory and it still is derogatory.) On the other hand, "Retard", never intended to be derogatory to the mentally handicapped, is now simply an outdated term for people with mental handicaps (correct?) or in that general category-- I THINK. You are simply showing your lack of enlightenment by using the term "Retarded". I fail to see the insult -- although it may show a lack of sensitivity/enlightenment on a modern issue, by a White House leader. SO? The leader of the Retarded OOPS -- mentally handicapped -- should enlighten him. Thats it! OH and by the way -- I am an "Appalachian American" from West Virginia -- and dont call me Hillbilly!!

Sullivan made some lame comments here.
But nothing rose to the level that Dan's rant comes off as a rational or thoughtful retort.
Dan is selective about when he finds crude comments crude, offensive comments offensive, and deranged comments deranged.
And this after DR appears to have been trying to tone it down a little recently - methinks(methoughts?) perhaps pull himself and his blog in a little from the tea party fringes.
But being offended by Andrew Sullivan? Here?
Also, I understand Trig was named after one his moms's relatives.
Posted by: Mike2Cents | Thursday, February 04, 2010 at 04:54 PM
I agree that Dan is selective...but that doesn't impact the fact that Andrew Sullivan's obession with Sarah Palin is totally insane and neurotic, or that the post Dan refers to was, not only an extremely bizarre piece of conjecture but totally offensive on multiple levels, as are almost all of his posts on Sarah Palin.
She gave her kids weird names, they all have weird names, some are weirder than others, so, maybe that says something about Sarah Palin being a maverick or a kook or maybe it says something else, but it says nothing and suggests nothing close to Sullivan's newest conspiracy theory about her.
Posted by: Anon | Thursday, February 04, 2010 at 05:10 PM
emrysa, I won't insult your intelligence (what little you have) by asking if you actually believe the garbage you have spewed here. Troll elsewhere.
As for the word faggott, in andrew's case it applies. He is an embarrassment to whatever group he belongs to. He gives gays a bad name with his hatred and slime. The gay community would do well to publicly rebuke his and his behavior.
"Dick" Davis, you leave first. I hear the slums of Cuba or Venezuela are lovely this time of year. A marxist like yourself should love the "equality" the promote.

My point is one shouldn't look to Andrew Sullivan for thoughts about Sarah Palin anymore than one should look to Michelle Malkin for thoughts on Nancy Pelosi. Actually, fine for entertainment sake I guess to read their rants...but take them seriously? No. And no point in getting 'shocked' by any of what they write. I think both of these examples manage to embarrass themselves enough to anyone who isn't drinking their flavor of kool-aid. That said, both are *capable* of making rational and salient points - and every once in a while...they do.
(This is not one of those times for AS.)
Posted by: Mike2Cents | Friday, February 05, 2010 at 11:56 AM
I guess I fundamentally see Sullivan's obsession with Palin as different. Malkin can be mean, vitriolic and like most other pundits she cherry picks things to suit her agenda...I can't square that with a guy who has made I'd guess over a dozen posts about Palin's pregnancy, and that ignores the other generally hysterical posts he's made about Palin issues that are not related to the idea that she faked her last pregnancy and Trig isn't her son. This is an idea that is wholly unhinged from reality, and just because he prefaces these rants with 'I don't really think she's not Trig's mother...but' doesn't change their nature.
I can't Sullivan seriously on any because if he can become this unglued on some a strange and trivial matter that he's still posting about Trig Palin over a year later, then I have to assume that the potential for totally unhinged non reality based ideas always exists.
It's the same way I reason about Dick Cheney, its probably true that everything he says about Iraq is not false, but he's made enough false and misleading statements that I don't consider him credible as a primary source for anything.
Posted by: Anon | Friday, February 05, 2010 at 12:26 PM

I essentially agree.
Just on Malkin though, she did float and promote the theory (in the same cagey way AS does with his Palin theories)that John Kerry was a lying coward who intentionally injured himself in order to fraudulently get a medal in Viet Nam. And I see that as wholly unhinged from reality - not to mention incredibly mean spirited - and fully on par with anything AS does or has done.
Posted by: Mike2Cents | Friday, February 05, 2010 at 02:27 PM
I don't remember her being involved in the John Kerry swiftboating, which IMO was a terrible thing, so I can't say whether she was obsessed w/it or not, I would have picked her 'fact finding' trip to Iraq as her best example of being unhinged from reality and just believing what she wanted to believe...but I still think Sullivan is truly obsessed with this Trig Palin subject and the subject itself is really, really out there, I can only put in par with people who believe that Obama was born in Kenya and that somehow this fact was cleverly hidden his entire life for some unknown reason, or maybe because a gypsy fortune teller told her that he'd grow up to be president if only his Kenyan birth could be suppressed...see, that's crazy talk. I don't like Obama, don't think he's brilliant, don't think he's good for the country overall, but born in Kenya? Ridiculous. I'm sure that people who believe he was born in Kenya are not wrong about everything else they believe, but I wouldn't be looking to them for credible information.
Posted by: Anon | Friday, February 05, 2010 at 04:03 PM
Telling the truth about Kerry and Vietnam is a terrible thing? Riiiiight. As a regular Malkin reader I have never seen her claim he injured himself on purpose. Through his own mistakes, yes. What she claimed is that he used connections to get medals he didn't earn and there is some solid info to back this up.
For the record, I fully believe obama is an American citizen.
