I had the pleasure of interviewing Congressmen Bob Latta and Jim Jordan of Ohio back in November, two solid conservative GOP Representatives.
With Kasich holding a lead over Strickland, a solid ticket with Mary Taylor - and Rob Portman leading his Senate race by seven, politically, we can make a lot of good things happen in Ohio this year. I look for it to be an important state as we move toward Fall if only because of the number of races involved. Keep an eye on it, I will.
COLUMBUS— Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland, who roared into office three years ago with nearly 61 percent of the vote, trails Republican John Kasich 51-45 percent in a Dayton Daily News/Ohio Newspaper Poll released Sunday, Jan. 24.

4 winnable house seats+governorship+seantor seat=one very important state.

Kasich is not a movement conservative, but he is a deficit hawk.

The thing is...Ted Strickland isn't even so bad. He actually has the gonads to go on 55krc (talk station) in Cincinnati to talk about what's going on, and he actually seems logical and reasonable. I like him more than Bob Taft before him...
That being said, every other Democrat in statewide office (secretary of state, ODJFS) is beyond corrupt and has to go. We're one of the Secretary of State Project states. We were the one who looked up Joe the Plumbers background, illegally.
God Bless Ohio.
Kasich 2010.

Yeah, FP. Strickland is a little brighter than Taft who was mostly a name, and yeah, Fat Man, Kasich is mostly a deficit hawk. But so what? A a six point lead is well within the capability of the northern Ohio machine's ability to jigger the outcome. I mean, we're not really talking about merit here, as appears by the history of the last fifty years or so.

GOTV only works if 1) you pay $$$ to the voters (ACORN) or 2) you have an energized base. I worked the last Bush campaign in SW Ohio (Warren County) and we called every registered voter twice on election day to make certain they had a way to get to their voting place. It rained hard all day - my son stood in line for 2 hours around noon and had to come back in the evening and stood for another hour and a half to vote.
It's all about the energy! Incidentally, it was only the Dems who cried all day - about the rain no less

Kasich names a woman as his running mate - Strickland comes out later and announces a woman as HIS running mate - a black lady - does this mean Strickland gets double points?
Kasich's running mate, 43-year-old Ohio Auditor Mary Taylor is Ohio GOP's highest ranking nonjudicial officeholder and adds youth and diversity to his ticket - and she has proven herself to be one sharp individual!

Kasich is a RINO, but compared to most Ohio politicians, he's right of them. Kasich sold out his soul and lost reelection when he voted to support the Clinton AWB. He cannot be trusted.

Let us not forget about Congressman Space, that weasel who voted for Obamacare - and...now opposes it....after Pelosi announced there wasn't enough votes to pass it, he resides in a BIG GOP district.

The best thing about Kasich in OH is that he will clean out all the corrupt dems in the capitol. And, once we get rid of our idiot secretary of state, things will start to look up here. I trust Kasich to cut taxes and wasteful spending...I think his RINO days in Congress are a factor, but I believe concentrating on OH alone will be helpful. Strickland is an empty suit and has been led by the nose by the incredibly corrupt dem party. Was that redundant? :P

Mary Taylor is a CPA, and I had some dealings with her when she was in private practice. I'm very impressed with her, and she'll make a good governor someday. (She'll make a pretty good Lt. Governor next year, too!)
Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner is running for senate against "Landslide Lee" Fisher, so we will get a new SecState. Looks like it's shaping up to be a primary filled with fratricide and bitter aftertaste.
I concur with the one comment above: Strickland is a hypocritical phony, but he hasn't (yet, at least) done anything monumentally stupid. Still, i look forward to his concession speech.

You Ohio folks need to send some of that conservative joujou up here to Michigan. We'll struggle to keep a leftist out of the governor's mansion this Fall, even after Granholm's lost decade. Right now, the leftists and RINOs are hiding the 2011 deficit, so it won't likely be a campaign issue, unless somebody steps up and rails about it, and they won't.
It should be a decent cycle though. People are pissed and ready to vote out the obvious dopes, which is a welcome change here.
