The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for the South Los Angeles, Long Beach and Whittier areas as a powerful new storm moves ashore.
The warning is expected to be in place for at least 45 minutes.
Radar shows heavy rain falling in Long Beach, with the storm moving in at 35 mph to the northeast. There were also reports of thunder and lightning across the region.

Several minutes ago I thought I heard loud thunder.
But the sound never got louder or softer and just kept going for well over a minute.
I realized it was a tornado after I saw the rain was sideways.
Long Beach, near Ocean Ave and Pine.

I'm in Palos Verdes.....thunder was so loud here, I thought the house got a direct hit. All the windows rattled and I felt the house shake. There was only a second between the flash of light and the subsequent thunder, so we must have been pretty close. Hey....this is So. Cal...... we usually don't get weather!
