Dayum, they are breaking for the doors, now. These people have no right to screw America on their way out with a disastrous health care vote. Obviously this is to make way for someone who might be able to win.
Embattled Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd (D) has scheduled a press conference at his home in Connecticut Wednesday at which he is expected to announce he will not seek re-election, according to sources familiar with his plans.

I'm not sure if that's a good thing. Whomever runs in his place will certainly be more appealing to Dems than Dodd was. I'd love to see Peter Schiff take that seat, but I'm not holding my breath. It looks like the Republicans will try to trot out the usual mouth-breathing big spenders.

This is great news, but the only dark part of this is the damage has been done. Worse, they all made their money, left their marks, committed their crimes, and they will not spend one day in jail, one day in stocks in the public square. They retire, take their stolen money and bribe money home then collect their government retirement checks that we have to pay for.
Victory? Yes. And hopefully signs of more to come as you and your friends and the tea party goers and the newly awakened conservative movement inside the Republican party gains strength.
But a little too much resemblance to the days after the sacking of Rome. Sure the barbarians retreated from the city, there was nothing left to steal.

I hear Dodd's lady-in-waiting, CT atty gen'l Richard Blumenthal, is the "most popular politician" in the state, and, of course, the Republicans are the underdogs http://bit.ly/81zVdT but . . .
If we manage a Brown upset or at least a close one in the MA special election January 19, the Tea Party Effect may spill over into solid blue states like Connecticut?

Good riddance to this incompetent, corrupt statist hack that’s the very embodiment of everything wrong in DC today-
A real piece of work, this one- he needs to be in jail, not one day retired in that Irish cottage-

Unfortunately I think Dick Blumenthal would be (almost) worse for CT and for the country as a senator than Dodd was. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601103&sid=a126_E4.p5AA

Don't get to happy about all these Dems resigning. This is part of their strategy to retain power. They're just moving out the guy against whose records we can run and moving in new guys. The answer to that: Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid argument: It doesn't matter who the Dems put in, they will all toe the party line and dash America towards socialism. We know this is their opening gambit in the keep power play.

"This is part of their strategy to retain power. They're just moving out the guy against whose records we can run and moving in new guys."
I don't buy it. This is what the Dems want us to believe. Can you really believe a guy like Dodd really wants to step down? Hell no! He sees an ass kicking coming and is running like the bitch that he is.
Power hungry people like Dodd don't fall on swords. It's possible the DNC gave him an offer he couldn't refuse. The wheels are coming off if they're resorting to forcibly pushing Dodd out.
Chaos is coming.

"Chaos is coming".
Yes, it is, one way or the other. But I'm pretty sure Dodd was bought off by the Democrats in order to save the senate seat in Ct. What depresses me is that the voters of Ct. would still elect a liberal, given what has happened over the past year.
I have no faith in the majority, USMC. We now find out today that there are more government workers than workers in the manufacturing sector. And a liberal can still win in Ct. Yes, chaos is coming, get ready for it.

Conn is just a very liberal state, it is texbook blue state in that it has a lot of wealthy white people, relatively few minorities and low crime, so it is easy for them to embrace liberal politics.
Conn is also a state where no social conservative Republican is going to have much of a chance to win, the only GOP types that can win there are those in the Bill Weld old yankee fiscal conservatives vein.
So, the GOP has to decide if values fiscal and tax policy over abortion rights and gay rights issues and whether its willing to support small government Republicans who are more liberal on social issues in order to have some leverage in blue states.

Anon, it has already been decided that social issues are not going to play a big part in this year's elections. The voters have decided that. Frankly, it's the fiscal survival of the entire nation that is at stake, and whether we will remain viable as a country.
The coming default on US Gov't treasury bonds will be the wild card. This could happen sooner than anyone thinks, and looming food shortages caused by the crop failures of this past season might be even more damaging. Be ready, my friend. We are in for a rough ride.

I'm not convinced that the GOP has gotten the message, I don't see much evidence of the GOP taking advantage of the Democratic debacle, it feels to me that whatever Dems get kicked out of office it won't be due to any GOP strategy, cause so far, I don't see much of a coherent strategy, which is sad because Obama and the Dems have been SO BAD that now is a real opportunity for Reagan Republicans to regain not only power in DC but power in within the party, but it seems leaderless to me.

"I'm not convinced the GOP has gotten the message".
Understatement of the year, and this is early January! No, they haven't, as they gave DeDe a million dollars in unstate NY, and have contributed virtually nothing to Brown in Mass. They are friggin idiots!

I live in CT and yes, it's not good that Dodd's out so early so that Blumenthal gets such a good headstart! But I'm lobbying for the very effective "Dump Dodd" group to switch gears to "Beat Blumenthal!"
There are more conservatives in CT than people realize. And we will be heard in 2010! :)

"Conn is just a very liberal state..."
lieberman v. lamont?
i would point to jodi rell as well, with a rather large caveat:
jodi rell's boss, john rowland resigned in july 2004, to do time for crimes that seem roughly equivalent to dodd's. It is true that she didn't face an election til nov 2006, but she trounced the dem opponent when the time came.
dodd's misdeeds might be worth a cup of coffee on the campaign trail, but will produce very few votes for the gop candidate.

http://www.DumpChrisDodd.com formed over 1 year ago and had a HUGE IMPACT! They were VERY ACTIVE and protested him whenever CHRI$ showed up in the state.

I'm kind of surprised about MA....even the diehard Democratic operatives that I know think Deval Patrick has done a terrible job, but there isn't any good opponent...same goes for the Senate race, first time in oh I don't know, 4 decades that there is a chance to elect a Republican Senator from Massachusetts and the GOP is invisble.
Say what you want to about Edwards...nobody believed in his 50 state strategy of not ceding anything to the GOP and lo and behold he brought the Democrats back to power.
The Republicans, especially now, should not be ceding any Congressional elections except in the totally gerrymandered House districts where any crackhead or criminal with a "D" next to his name will get elected.
