It could be worse. WH Press Secretary Robert Gibbs might have ended his comment with "Missy!" But should we really be surprised?
Given that all WH messaging is said to flow from the top down, what this really reminds me of is how Obama treated Hillary during the campaign. Executives usually pick spokespersons to whom they can relate. Sounds like Gibbsie and Obama may have a lot in common after all.
Ryan had a heated back-and-forth with Gibbs over whether White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers overstepped her bounds in the “Gate-Crash-gate” incident and was pressing Gibbs on the subject through repeated questions.
“Some might have called her the belle of the ball, overshadowing the first lady,” Ryan said.
Gibbs said he hadn’t heard that criticism before.
Ryan continued in her questioning, asking whether Rogers had invited herself to the first state dinner.
Gibbs shrugged it off, then told Ryan to calm down and take a deep breath.
“This happens with my son. He does the same thing,” Gibbs said, referring to his young child. It drew ooohs from the press corps.
“Don’t play with me,” Ryan said.
Some are alleging sexism because Gibbs told a female reporter to calm down.
“There have been heated exchanges in the White House briefing room before but I have never seen Gibbsy talk down to one of the members of the WH Press Corps in that manner,” wrote blogger Emokidsloveme. “He treated her as if she were a petulant child and hasn’t been called to the carpet on his behavior.”

Emokidsloveme is right. "Emokidsloveme" is a pretty strange handle, though.

You can always trust a progressive to treat a woman like crap if it's convenient, and to blame the whole thing on a Republican or conservative. Expect Gibbs to blame Glenn Beck for this.

So this creature, Desiree Roger stole the show during the State Dinner?? Well, I don't see the difference between her and the Current First Lady (yeah , whatever)... They both look like transsexuals.

If Desiree stole the show in that raggy, ill-fitting outfit then what did Michelle have on?

Future headline: "Gibbs to WH reporter: 'Get your barefoot pregnant ass back in the kitchen where you belong. Got that, cupcake?'"

She isn't the only reporter he's been a jerk to, he's been a nasty jerk to Major Garrett. Also, what is WITH the press corps? Is it just me, or did it sound like a Jr. High? They all broke into "oooh..." instead of standing up for a fellow professional. It IS a story because Obama is trying to invoke separation of powers over a social secretary. It's ludicrous. These guys are such a bunch of amateurs.

Obama is particularly nasty and dismissive to women: the reporter he called sweetie; Hillary; Sarah Palin whom he called a pig. He's disdainful of women and is constantly trying to put them in their place—whatever he thinks it is. That attitude from the top pervades the WH and leaks into the attitude of his spokesman with the press corps. Obama's got trouble with women; he just doesn't like us much.

And where is NOW????? Hmmmm, imagine if a Bushbot had treated a black female reporter like this? "Future headline: "Gibbs to WH reporter: 'Get your barefoot pregnant ass back in the kitchen where you belong. Got that, cupcake?'", headline nothing, it is not to far of a stretcch of the imagination to think this it what he was thinking, if not worse. I am sure if someone in the room was wearing a Huffington Supersonic Earpiece that perrson would have heard him call her a "B*&ch". It will be fun to watch when the WH Press Corp has enough of Gibbs' infantile behavior and start taking him to task. Gibbs does not strike me as a man that can deal with criticism well, let alone see his own name in print being drawn and quartered in the press. At some point the press must look at the polls (if they continue to trend down for the one) and say enough of falling on the sword for this guy, we need to feed our families. Pride comes before fall, and I think when Gibbs' fall comes it will be specatacular and his own fault.

I can't believe Gibb's will keep his job after this misogyny. Unless the White House approved of his stunt as a stunt to deflect from the female reporters valid line of inquiry, and crashergate scandal itself.
Very shades of "Missy!" I wonder what Michelle Obama thinks?
