Over at The Plum Line, Greg Sargent - among others on the Left - feels dispirited.
Tune in tomorrow when they all go back to telling us how Sarah Palin is irrelevant. Or, how they'd like nothing better than to see her emerge as she's only a silly joke. It looks as though the Left isn't in on the joke, even though some are determined to play it on themselves. I suspect still others know precisely what's going on, hence the effort to silence or marginalize her as best they can.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be working very well!
Here’s a dispiriting postscript to the massive flap over The Washington Post’s decision to publish an Op ed by Sarah Palin on climate change, a piece that has been widely criticized as riddled with falsehoods.
I’m told by the paper’s insiders that her piece was one of the most-read WaPo opinion pieces of the year, coming in 21st in page views out of literally hundreds of opinion articles. An earlier Palin Op ed in the paper on the same topic was the third most read of the year.
A lot of this is probably driven by heavy outside linkage. But still, the fact that Sarah Palin, of all people, is able to command such attention for her views on the science of climate change, of all things, is kind of amazing.

She wrote an op-ed. Gore wrote books and fostered a movie.
Based on the current state of "climate gate," one can choose for one's self which of them is the idiot and which is the savant.

What's really delicious to watch is the gnawing feeling on the Left that their 40 Year Epoch of Dominance is beginning to vanish, as if it was never really meant to be.
They overreached, of course, and believed all of what Obama sold them. They bought the con, hook, line, and sinker. All it took was one plainspoken, Trumanesque figure like Palin to come along and throw cold water on everything. Now, all is in flux.
After 2010, everything will be at Zero Reset.

1. Harry Truman was a liberal
2. Harry Truman wasn't a quitter
Posted by: WPE | Friday, December 11, 2009 at 09:23 PM
WPE; Harry Truman, whom I admire, was a failed small town haberdasher; he was then part of the Boss Pendergraft political corruptiom machine in Kansas City; he got to the Senate, and he got the Vice President slot because FDR wanted to change out his running partner in the 1944 election and because Truman had successfully chaired a couple of special Senate investigating committees. FDR made Harry a member of the mushroom society, keeping him inthe dark and covered with bullshit (Obama is doing that to Biden, except that Biden supplies his own bullshit).
Then a load of hay fell on Truman and he rose to the occasion. Do you have any proof other than your own say so that Truman was a "liberal" whatever that term means to you?

"Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a Republican. But I repeat myself."
— Harry S, Truman
Posted by: WPE | Friday, December 11, 2009 at 11:02 PM
And Lincoln was a Republican, whoop dee freakin doo.
Can people stop arguing using past presidential party affiliation. If you want to know who is the most like Truman it's Bush II:
-Fought an unpopular war
-Accused regularly of human rights violations
-Assumed to be a hick by his opponents
-Won his 2nd term despite pollsters prematurely claiming he lost
-Poor speaker
-Left office with approval in the 20's
-His successor won the job by using him as a sort of boogeyman
And you know what? The similarities don't mean a damn thing.

Why does the right hang onto this canard that Palin is a serious person?
It only lowers the standard of the debate.
Posted by: jane | Friday, December 11, 2009 at 11:40 PM
Jane - When you speak of the "Standard of the Debate", who is it that you have in mind as the great debaters representing the liberal cause today, Obama, maybe Gore or how about Holder, maybe even Michal Moore or that noted intellectual powerhouse ACORN. I take great comfort in knowing that it is these "Type" of seekers of the truth that assure me there is no God also. One thing for sure, Mrs. Palin understands that the "Debate" is over, and America has come to understand the same. Broad brush cheap liberal insults by simple liberal "groupies" only adds to that certainty.
Posted by: roytheelectrician | Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 12:48 AM
Jane
I could ask you the same question in regards to Obama and his administration.
Simple put, if you are going to state a fact that Palin is a joke, you should have verifiable evidence to support the charge against that person and 2) If you are going to set a standard, be very sure that a) that standard will go both ways and b) that you won't be surprise if the standard you are trying to hoist against Palin will be used to hang the person you politically support.

"Why does the right hang onto this canard that Palin is a serious person?"
i guess watching a guy win a presidential bid, with only two years in the senate when he decided to run, makes them think, why not us?

"1. Harry Truman was a liberal"
nagasaki and hiroshima.
are you saying a liberal of today would have dared the berlin airlift?
somehow, liberal then, isn't liberal now.
i guess if we are just using the word, willy nilly, thomas jefferson was a liberal.
there has been a dramatic shift in the willingness of democrats to invoke tj. 90% of his writings are completely antithetical to current liberal philosophy.
sorry wpe, but today's liberals aren't.

"1. Harry Truman was a liberal..."
Perhaps by the standard of his day. By the standard of our day he would be considered a conservative. It would be interesting to hear his comments if he were alive today. I suspect they would not be kind to the leftist morons currently residing in the House, Senate and White House.
Posted by: Philip McDaniel | Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 08:45 AM
Jane-Palin is a serious part of the debate because she has major political support by millions upon millions upon millions of people. 44% according to the democratic PPP polling firm would vote for her today. Those 44% in America deserve to have the leader of their movement heard. They deserve to have her thoughts and opinions heard and expressed by the media.
This is not the Soviet Union or China where those with different ideas are told to STFU or go to the gulag or reeducation camps. Until Palin gets under 20% in the polls she will continue to be a serious voice in National Politics and anyone that fails to see that is beyond stupid. Even if for some reason she falls below 20% and hits 10% (not very likely at this point) she still will have a voice and will be a force in national politics at the edges like Ron Paul, or Nader etc.
The fact is that unlike Ron Paul and Nader, Palin's support is increasing not decreasing and thus has more and more input into national politics than before. As her support continues to grow her power and voice will also.

Of course, Al has actual court rulings that his "movie" is fraudulent bullshit.... but hey, when do facts matter to Copperheads?
Posted by: SDN | Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 10:53 AM
Truman fought to implment medicare, supported the minimum wage, the United Nations, fought Republican tax cuts, promoted voting right and fair housing, made major cuts in the defense budget and was in favor of universal health care and hated Joe McCarthy. I don't think Tea Baggers would like him. But if that's your idea of a conservative, do be it, but welcome to the Democratic Party.
"are you saying a liberal of today would have dared the berlin airlift?"
Yes, just like Truman the Liberal did.
No one's stoppping Ms. Palin from writing all the editorials she wants. But she had a job governing a state with 1/300 the population of the US and quit. She doesn't have what it takes to be president. She lllooovvveess all the attention though.
Posted by: WPE | Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 12:20 PM
The right isn't hanging on to Gov Palin, the left is. They won't leave her alone?! But they sure complain about her allot. I think what that means is that they truly love her and they have always had a hard time expressing their feelings of love. It's ok to love her, don't be afraid she won't break your heart, she's a keeper. I love you Sarah!!! See how easy that was!

Nothing surprising here at all.
Palin is an American patriot and Obama is an Indonesian African colonial dictator.
Even those leaning to the left, except for the Soros backed American hating Progressives are now getting behind Palin for 2012 even though they are only doing it quietly at this time.

If people have any doubts about Obama being an Indonesian they can go here for the latest damning evidence.

"Palin is an American patriot and Obama is an Indonesian African colonial dictator."
And you're an idiot.
Posted by: WPE | Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 02:38 PM
WPE, as I recall those defense cuts came up and bit Truman in the ass when the Norks invaded South Korea and the troops weren't ready and were short of everything. Not a fine example of having prepared for the future. Truman had some good points, but also some very bad ones.
And Jane? When the left is pushing people like Icebox Jefferson and Al Sharpton and the open corruption of Barney Frank, you're not in a good position to be calling Palin 'not a serious person'.
Posted by: Firehand | Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 04:41 PM
I love Sarah because she speaks for me, she fights for me, and she's the only political figure besides Michelle Bachmann (whom I also love) who is getting out there, taking the fight to Obama and calling his ideology what it is.

Is it not the greatest that the 2 women of the Republican party are the ones with the steel spines and fighting the most for our liberty all the while raising how many kids(?) 10 or more, some handicapped on top of it, which is so very hard for a normal family, running states, writing books and laws, sending your oldest son off to war, defending your young daughters from perverts on TV, taking care of their husbands and looking Hot and Pretty at the same time!!! Oh my God what inspiration are these two women. It makes you want to get your guns and armor on and fight the whole darn war ourselves! What a difference believeing in something makes, God and truth is so worth fighting for! You go girls, we have your backs and you have our votes! Wasn't Sarah great on the Tonight Show!!!! Keep fighting Acorn Michele we will put them down for good soon you'll see, come on guys and send them some money so they can keep fighting!

WPE: "She doesn't have what it takes to be president."
...neither does the current petty minded inconsequential occupant of the Oval Office WPE. Which is why you - and the Left - come off so poorly with your "Sarah isn't competent" meme.
To your mind, she's *theoretically* incompetent FOR the position. To our observation, President Pretty Princess is *verifiably* incompetent AT the position. (Actually, s/he's rather turning out to be WORSE then Jimmy Carter, and that's a helluva depth to plumb.)
...so at this point, your opinion in the matter lacks seriousness. (Granted, to everyone but yourself.) That's the difference when you have to choose between an expectation, and an observation: those damn observations just don't leave you a lot of wiggle-room.
As for Sarah Palin ....
She will run. She will win.
...and she will be competent.
(Based btw, upon almost EXACTLY the same observations that you aren't aware "don't mean what you think they mean" ...and no, I ain't gonna enumerate those for you. Just read your own rants, and "negativize the negatory" if you would buy a clue. Heh.)
...not that we'll expect you to ever, ever admit that WPE.

Sarah Palin can't be bought. She proved it to her political mentor over Wasilla garbage, to her party on the Alaska Oil and Gas Commission, to big oil or corporate interests over ACES, and to Washington D.C. by turning down stimulus money with strings. Furthermore, she demonstrated an unwillingness to cash the governor's pay check while her administration was forced to vote 'present' from progressive personal destruction politics at the expense of Alaskan's taxpayer dollars. The people who want to know the truth know Palin can't be bought so when she speaks, people listen.

Sarah The One quit because things got too tough. And being president is a helluva lot tougher than being governor of a state with less than a million people.
The rationalizations for her turning tail are laughable. I'd love to read WingNuts comments if Obama quit his job. The mockery would be endless.
She'll talk about running, tour the country, go to Iowa, but she won't. She's in love with the adulation, not the governing. If she loved governing, she wouldn't have quit.
But for Winguts, Sarah The One will solve all the problems.
"Sarah Palin can't be bought." First thing she did after quitting the job she swore and oath to perform was cash in on a book deal.
Posted by: WPE | Sunday, December 13, 2009 at 08:35 PM
WPE - I'd suggest to you that most wingnuts pray every single day for Obama's continuuing health and well-being, through to 2012.
...the alternative would be Joe Biden (not even arguably the stupidest man to hold the position of VP), or Nancy Pelosi (who, you'll have to trust me on this, most of us wingnuts regard as both certifiably incoherent AND as a demonically possessed Satan worshipper).
For while we may detest President Pretty Princess, the current alternatives are so *much* worse that he'll continue to get the daily prayer request from us bitter clingers. (Oh, you still own him sucker, and we'll let you forget that arount the time we let you forget the Carter presidency ...but **no** one's stupid enough to desire ANY of the current alternatives.)
...I see you neglected to respond to my witticisms though. Typical.

"...I see you neglected to respond to my witticisms though."
There weren't any.

For those who think attaching a derogatory name to a person (quitter, Wingnuts) is debate at its sharpest, here is advice: try cutting the snark and replacing it with ideas.
