I'd not heard of this particular legislation until I read it here, but I have served on the legislative committee of my state Right to Life organization and as a crisis pregnancy counselor. It's important to have this kind of information so that we can better understand how to help women considering abortion. If abortionists are performing 99% of their abortions on Latinos, for instance, that's something the public should know about. In regard to the ban on abortions for gender selection, you have to understand that pro-lifers will put forth any restrictions on abortion that they can provided that they can do so under Roe. In no way did Roe allow for abortions for gender selection, therefore it's reasonable for pro-lifers to want a specific restriction against it. Will people have abortions for gender selection? Absolutely. Ever heard the term "designer babies"? There are people who would be willing to have an abortion based on eye color. A person like that is very rare, but they are out there.

Organizations like NOW and the ACLU fight any and all "regulation" of abortion. When I was on the committee, we were trying to get the legislature to approve a bill that would simply make abortion clinics be subject to the same sanitary standards as other surgical facilities are subject to. Further, we had proof that a Louisville clinic had been re-using equipment without sanitizing it first. There are cases of women dying from sepsis and hemorrhage because some of these "doctors" are butchers who treat the women like cattle. Believe it or not, NOW and the ACLU fought against that legislation. Why? They say regulation puts too much pressure on these "doctors" and that ANY regulation of abortion has the effect of "limiting access" for women. Trust me when I say, if an abortionist used a coat hanger to perform an abortion, they'd fight his prosecution. If the ACLU and NOW had their way, the "back alley abortion" would be perfectly legal. "Access" is more important to them than safety. I tend to think it might have something to do with the money abortionists' rake in if abortions increase. "Unlimited access" is their "holy grail".

Thanks for mentioning this story. I hope I've helped clarify the issue for you, at least from the pro-life perspective.

If it were the woman whose brain was sucked out I'd be as against aborting her as much as I am against aborting another human being regardless of that human being's gender.

Feminists-the mass murderers of humanity.

Further; because Pope Benedict does ex-communicate pro-Feminist abortion-activist Nancy Pelosi for thanking God for abortion this leads me to believe the Catholic faith is a fraud; how am I to believe in the Pope's word about the protecting sanctity of life when his own faithful and devout followers continue to empower the destruction of such sanctity.

I guess the Catholic Church is more interested in protecting Pelosi's and Kennedy's government silver coins than they are in protecting life.

.

correction: because Pope Benedict does NOT ex-communicate pro-Feminist abortion-activist Nancy Pelosi for thanking God for abortion

syn, the Pope can't excommunicate Pelosi. It's up to her bishop to do that. Sorry to burst your bubble of joy in thinking yourself capable of making a point on that, but sad to say, you don't have a point. Do I think her bishop should excommunicate her? Absolutely. But I'm not about to leave the Catholic Church because of one bishop's decision about Nancy Pelosi. Try again.

I should have mentioned, in light of the fact that so many people want to blame the Catholic Church for abortion, when I was a crisis pregnancy counselor it was as a volunteer for the Archidiocese of Louisville. Also, it was precisely my conversion to Catholicism that opened my eyes regarding the travesty of abortion. Syn, how about making a donation to your local crisis pregnancy center? I'm sure they'd really appreciate some diapers or formula.

@ Lisa Graas.... How have you clarified anything with regards to this law? The reasons its hold? Whether the type of information collected is good idea or not? How will that be used to collect other information on other types information on other medical procedures. How will it be used? Does the bill comply with the state requirements for a bill?

Pro-life activist are no less single minded in their pursuit of laws or regulation that will over turn and out law all abortion, for any reason, than pro-choice are in their pursuit of their goals.

If she has nothing to hide then she shouldn't be getting an abortion in the first place!! There are too many options to pregnant woman in the state of Oklahoma. It's obvious that these people are ultimate trying to protect these women – not exploit them. In the interim, they are also gathering extensive and important information that will help future women in such a predicament. Why choose between mother and child? Why kill an unborn child? Look at this poisonous website: http://tictacdo.com/ttd/Get-an-Abortion-%28USA%29 - WAKE UP PEOPLE!!

We should be able to learn more about why women want abortions? Then we can help these women! So many women abort silently, not even knowing their options! Let's help these women now.
