From a new item up at CBS:
After the briefing, Gibbs went to the president for clarification. Gibbs then called me to his office to relate what the president said. The president told him it IS locked in – there is no flexibility. Troops WILL start coming home in July 2011. Period. It's etched in stone. Gibbs said he even had the chisel.
Back to an item I posted earlier via CongressDaily. McCain was challenging Obama on the very same point.
These sources said the president responded to McCain by promising that the withdrawal would be based on conditions on the ground.
Talk about trying to please eveyone while having it both ways.

This idiot is a disgrace...American lives will be lost so he can run for reelection and Afghanis will be slaughtered in 18 months by the Muslim scum who want to kill us...
I miss Bush....

It's Obama. He will say whatever he has to say to get himself out of an uncomfortable personal situation.
It's not like there are consquences... http://threebeerslater.blogspot.com/2009/11/he-who-hesitates.html

the question is now what's mccain going to do about it? does he say "no problem" or does he go on the attack and call obama - wait for it, here it comes, A LIAR. Wilson did it and he raised 1 million over night, just think how much mccain could raise by doing the same thing.

I'm unclear why you chose the logical OR, Dan.

"Keep in mind that the PACE of the withdrawal will still depend on conditions on the ground – which means it could be a very small number of troops if things are not going well."
Everything is hedged. He never really says anything. People who like him think I'm nuts, but I don't recall ever hearing Obama say anything of substance on any subject, ever.

Why do you think Obama cares either way?
Don't make the mistake of thinking that Obama is playing a deep game of chess, or even a sly game of poker. He's playing Hearts.
He's not playing his game to win points for our country. He's playing to lose them.
Think ... Is there anything he's done that doesn't fit this scenario?
