I wonder what Ambassadorship, or Federal slot he'll be given in exchange for selling out, along with the cash? Why he even cares enough to try and preserve his reputation at this point makes no sense. Today he was caught sneakily changing a vote after finding out it wasn't required to support Harry Reid. There are no Blue Dogs, as I posted previously. There are only Democrats not required to sell-out on any particular vote. And if they're needed, they do what they're told. It's the totalitarian way.
The Senate of the United States just voted to table Jim DeMint’s proposed amendment that would prevent cash for cloture compromises.
As you will recall, Ben Nelson was bribed by Harry Reid to vote for the health care bill via targeted earmarks that will only benefit Nebraska.
DeMint asked for the Senate to suspend its rules to consider his amendment, which would prohibit such deals in the future.
Ben Nelson voted against Jim DeMint’s amendment, but when he realized the Democrats already had the votes to kill it, he raced back up to the clerk and changed his vote so the final record shows Nelson sided with DeMint.
Unfortunately for Ben Nelson, I have obtained the actual factual roll call sheet.

If I were a whore, I'd resent people calling Ben Nelson a whore.

The thing is, if this amendment had passed, the only practical effect would have been to drive the deal making underground, thereby making it even less transparent than it already is. Paraphrasing Abraham Lincoln, I prefer my despotism taken pure and without the base alloy of hypocrisy.

@Jeffersonian Right, at least a whore takes money from the person they're serving.

charles, the term here is corruption, not despotism. At least not yet. We now see that the political process in the US is now so corrupt that it doesn't work. I would suggest that we go back to the time when Senators were chosen by state legislatures, but the corruption is rampant there as well.

Templar Knight - what we have is really not any different in that the state democratic/Republican party decided who to back and most of the people running that are running the state anyway. The only positive thing that we would have is it would remove the illusion that we actually have a say in the matter.

President commits political suicide by jumping from the "precipice"
A few days ago, our Glorious Leader, Barack Hussein Obama has sobered up and made a surprisingly astute observation about his Medical Care bill: "From the discussions we had, it's clear we are on the precipice of achievement that's eluded Congresses, presidents for generations -- an achievement that will touch the lives of nearly every American." For those unclear about the usage of the word "precipice" - let me remind you that it means either "an overhanging or extremely steep mass of rock, such as a crag or the face of a cliff" or "the brink of a dangerous or disastrous situation".

It's a win-win situation for Nelson. It's all good. Either he gets re-elected or not. If not, he will be handed a plum job or become a lobbyist. Either way, he has his pension, he has his health care, he will have a nice income, and he doesn't have to go back to Nebraska.

Hey, I give the guy some credit, at least he protected his state from getting hit with increased Medicaid commitments ad infinitum and so Nebraska might be one tiny bit less held in thrall to the Federal government as time goes by.
That makes him a crook with some heart and a little bit of concern for the deal with the devil he made.

Citizen Taxpayers should hold politicians like Nelson ACCOUNTABLE. For Christian Constitutionalists this means punishing them for bad or unethical behavior.
Let's take away their pensions just like we lost ours. Let's take away their homes and assets, just like we lost ours.
Let's put a tax on them to help correct the deficits THEY voted on. Yes, a disproportionately larger tax than the rest of us.
