Real special, kids. That's the way to get what you want. The chancellor and his wife claim it was a violent attack and they were in fear for their lives. It appears a fair amount of damage was done. How dare their tuition costs go up. What are these people going to do when they begin to pay taxes, especially given that so much of their would be messiah's debt is going to end up squarely on their backs as they age?
It doesn't get much dumber than this.
BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) -- Eight people were under arrest Saturday after protesters broke windows, lights and planters outside the home of the chancellor of the University of California, Berkeley.
University spokesman Dan Mogulof said 40 to 70 protesters also threw incendiary devices at police cars and the home of Chancellor Robert Birgeneau about 11 p.m. Friday. There were no fires or injuries.
The protesters are demonstrating against state funding cuts that have led to course cutbacks, faculty furloughs and sharp fee increases.
"The attack at our home was extraordinarily frightening and violent. My wife and I genuinely feared for our lives," Birgeneau said in a statement issued through the university.
The eight were arrested on suspicion of rioting, threatening an education official, attempted burglary, attempted arson of an occupied building, felony vandalism, and assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer.
They include two Berkeley students and one from the University of California, Davis, Mogulof said. Of the remaining five, four had San Francisco Bay-area addresses, while one is from Brooklyn, N.Y. Their ages ranged from 20-41. At least three are women.
"This is what it looks like when a student group gets hijacked by an extreme and violent element in its ranks," Mogulof said.

""This is what it looks like when a student group gets hijacked by an extreme and violent element in its ranks," Mogulof said."
While I'm sure that this is sending shock waves through the Peoples Republik of Berkley right now, after all those years of pounding Chomski and Zinn and drilling anti Americanism into the students heads, can they really be that shocked? I guess that they figured that the violence would hit some other fat cats first, they never realized that they were the "establishment". I wonder how they're feeling about all of those Che shirts right about now?
But let's face it: 20 years from now some actor who considers Sean Penn to be one of his "main influences" will play the leader of the non student protesters in a movie that paints him in a sympathetic light, and he'll get the Oscar.
You say you want a revolution? Well, you know...

"This is what it looks like when a student group gets hijacked by an extreme and violent element in its ranks," Mogulof said.
No Mogulof, that is what it looks like any time the liberal progressive people get together to protest anything, it is the core, not the extreme fringes, you should know, it is part of your teachings. You, Mogulof, support their every infraction of the law and their attacks on the rights of others who happen to disagree with your world view. Now they have found that you are the enemy as much as any conservative group, and you are only reaping the seeds of evil that you have sewn for decades. You, Mogulof, have done everything in your power to destroy the fabric of this nation, by teaching our children that if they feel they are right that the ends justifies the means, and are just lucky enough that some people still hold moral conviction of right and wrong and are there to protect you from the devils you unleashed. We know that you, Mogulof, will not learn anything from this, because once you are safe again, and not under threat by your very own devils, you will once again continue to teach them that they can attack anyone that they disagree with, and when they do, you will once again be supporting their terror against others who are conservative. You are a pathetic human being and if the world is to be blessed, you would lose your job and your lifestyle for the crimes that you have committed against humanity in the pursuit of your progressive liberal theology.

Another perfect argument for owning guns. Nothing says "leave us the hell alone!", better than a stupid liberal stupid going out in a body bag with a bullet to the head.
Own guns or the libs will kill you, end of story.

I'm struck by how much this resembles the riots in France a while back.
You get the same result here. When you institutionalize an entitlement culture, as has happened in California and elsewhere - as soon as you try to take it away, some will resort to violence because they feel the status quo is owed to them.

They told us the billions of stimulus money went to teacher salaries. Counted the facultiy as jobs created.
We know that the majority of the expenses of the institutions, business, or what have you, is paying the helps salary.
We also know that the professors augment their meager 6 figure incomes by soaking the student by forcing them to buy the special text books the prof authored.
How does it follow that the Uni is broke and needs to raise tuitions?
Obama bailed them out already.
They're playing money games.
Rocks and garbage thrown at the chancelors McMansion seems like a tiny bit of justice, to me.

This is also what happens in a state where it is damn near impossible to carry a gun for protection. Had that happened here in the south, there would be several dead would-be arsonists on the lawn.

"What are these people going to do when they begin to pay taxes, especially given that so much of their would be messiah's debt is going to end up squarely on their backs as they age?"
They won't care. They probably won't even notice, because taxes are withheld from the paycheck before it reaches them. OTOH, tuition increases are money out of pocket for them.

Berkeley..they really aren't a stranger to this kind of behavior. Aren't they teaching the kids to think and behave like this...well then. It appears to me that the educators of Berkely's chickens are coming home.....TO ROOOOOOST. i'm sorry...i'm fresh out of sympathy.

Reagan knew how to handle such Berkley trash- while they tried to burn his house down.
"Spoiled brats" he called them...

OMG, karma! I find it very difficult to work up any sympathy for anyone remotely connected with that fustercluck at Berkeley. In my opinion, they got just a taste of what they really deserve.

LOL!!! I was listening to a student on an interview when all of this started who said something along the lines of, here we go again, old rich white men decide by economic class who gets the privilege of an education. I laughed at that too, I felt like giving him sympathy and telling him, look princess, those rich white men democrats are the ones that you and your ilk keep voting for. You got your a$$ handed to you by your own team!! You support politicians who think passing out welfare to get votes outweighs paying for idiot college students who are going to vote for them anyway simply because they have a D next to their name. They bankrupted the state, now live with it. Maybe you should put in an application to the University of Texas, go to a state with a surplus rather than going bankrupt. This is so funny I don't know where to begin!

The elite progressive left played a dangerous game and they're about to suffer the consequence from it. They trained the hounds of hell, intended to persistently harass the country club fat cats of the right. Unfortunately, the left tends to predominate extensive elite social circles. The all-out assault on the Church of Reason (science, academia, etc.) has begun, but just wait until the excess of Hollywood, the mainstream media and countless other progressive bastions of excess are discovered by these destroyers.

What's with the shooting these students dead? It's a little dramatic isn't it. We all knew this is going to start happening and we need to be the cooler heads and deal with it the best I know we can. Believe me I am just as angry as the next person, but we need to be firm and non violent, period. We need to support our troops and keep the home front safe. Read up on history and memorize the constitution we are going to need to know both. We need to prepare our selves for 2010, we need to be better, smarter and stronger than our opponents. So get ready people!

The protesters are playing it just like the Democratic leadership in the legislature hoped.
Rather than make real cuts to spending, they cut the services most visible to the middle class like parks and the educational system. That way they can ride the anxiety to increased taxes.
As to the protesters, the ones that didn't get arrested got laid in a fury of violence-inspired libido.

From the story: "The eight were arrested ... attempted arson of an occupied building"
Pretty much in every single place in the United States, the occupiers of that home would have LEGAL JUSTIFICATION to blow those kids brains out of their skulls. No one has the right to threaten you in your own home, and when they do, you have the right to defend yourself in what ever ability you can, and you cannot be forced to retreat when you are on your own property. The kids are lucky that the occupiers did not have guns, I rather wish they would have had guns. I would love to see the reaction in the media to a liberal defending themselves using deadly force with a gun.

HatlessHesian you nailed it!! The Democrats are the party of the rich, especially here in California. These leftist moron students are complaining to their own choir. They don't see that though, they think they are protesting Republicans. It is just so funny (actually sad, but I can't seem to muster the sympathy). I think that most of these students are just looking for violence for cause, I'm sure that many of them are children of their rich democrat parents. How droll!! LOL!!!!

This guy had his house attacked, his wife threatened and the University spokesman wants to minimize it?!!
This is exactly what we are going to get if we have another bad terrorist attack with the current administration in power. Hope everyone feels safe.

wow - i never new so many tea party conservative vets fresh from Iraq and Afghanistan went to Berkley. I guess JaNap's warning about the above type of domestic terror profile fell on deaf ears at Berkley?
I wonder, do the parents of these punk kids think this is okay, or is thier silence on the matter just out of fear given they know they will get the same treatment at home when the kid comes home expecting christmas presents for a holiday he/she does not even believe in?

There is a local group BAMN (By Any Means Necessary) that is very active in the East Bay and has a reputation and proven history of the old communist trick of infiltrating and taking over groups. This smells of their fingerprints.
Everyone likes to sit where ever and sneer at Berkeley, well let me tell you...it's weirder than you can imagine.

This reminds me of the obscure 1970's movie "RPM: Revolutions per Minute"
Lefty students take over the college campus demanding their typical crap. Anthony Quinn plays a Leftist professor who spent his career teaching the students how to revolt against The Establishment Man. The school board members decide to appoint the professor (Quinn) as Dean of the school to deal with the rioting students.
Fascinating story about Lefties breeding their own tyrants and how they're eaten by their own opressive creatures.

Isn't it interesting that the educated "elite" and so-called future leaders from our finest schools, invariably exhibit some of the worst behaviour and tend to belie all they espouse?
Posted by: TheLeftSucks | Sunday, December 13, 2009 at 01:48 PM
A lot of the types who inhabit Berkeley and vacinity (both old and young) still romanticize and worship the protest culture of the 60's and 70's. They have been pining to recreate this scene for years, and now they are doing it. Billy Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn are considered folk "heroes" to this group and are friends of the President of the United States. Damaging and occupying tax funded university property---why its all just innocent and valid dissent, you know.
Posted by: Ratskeller | Sunday, December 13, 2009 at 03:40 PM
How stupid do you have to be to start burning down buildings where you live and go to school. I would call these guys retarded but that would be insulting to those people that really are mentally challenged.
God this is funny. The only thing that would have made it funnier is if they really had burned down some building.

"Believe me I am just as angry as the next person, but we need to be firm and non violent, period."
You are morally permitted -- I'd say obligated -- to defend yourself when someone attacks. Someone breaking into your home counts -- the attempted arson is just an added reason.

"This is what it looks like when a student group gets hijacked by an extreme and violent element in its ranks," Mogulof said.
WRONG!
This is what it looks like when children are taught YOUR ethics, YOUR "progressivism", YOUR Obama Party mentality, and the belief of YOU and your fellow liberals that they "deserve" everything and that anyone who doesn't give them what they want when they want it is "oppressing" them.
This group was not "hijacked" by an "extreme element". They acted exactly in accordance with what leftist and Obama Party doctrine, as put forward by Bill Ayers and Barack Obama, told them to do.

Well, I’ve said all that is useful to say, & more unfortunately, so I’m done. Time will unfortunately prove I’m right, & especially if the general apathy of our public continues. Thanks for the support atheling. Like I said before.. I never wanted to carry a rifle, but my freedom, & the freedom of future generations is now threatened from within, as much as from any external force, & now is a time to be ready for tyranny, not to be apathetic.

I never cease to be amazed that despite the media and liberals constantly stereotyping the right as VIOLENT, that out in the real world, it is always leftys and liberals who are out throwing rocks, destroying property and creating mayhem.

The Media? How about the Dept. Of Homeland Security? How about the Justice Dept.? If it were only the media it wouldn't be nearly as bad.

Vicious dogs are best met with lethal force.
Trainers of vicious dogs on the other hand, are best left to be torn asunder by their own creations - or to turn an idiom, mauled by their own petard.

A word to the professors, go to your local gun store. Ask for a product called a street sweeper, it is legal. Get plenty of 2-0 buck shot if you want to do damage, get bird shot if not. The sight of the weapon and the noise it makes in loading the shells is enough to scare anyone. Result, end of intimidation.
