Tired of listening to GOP media Starz (in their own eyes, anyway) rambling on about moderation, compromise, appeasement, and worse? Here's a quick read to warm your conservative heart. Are there really any card carrying conservatives left in today's establishment GOP? And are they willing to speak up? It was nice to confirm for myself that, yes, there really are.
"The radical Left" in the persons of Obama, Pelosi and Reid are in charge. After the Contract with America, too many of the same Republicans thought, "I'm going to have to open up the purse strings and just give more away". Enough with these Republicans who think that appearing more Liberal or Moderate to be more popular with the media is going to work. It won't. Republicans have to learn that when we run as moderates we lose, it's only when running as conservatives, relying on fundamental conservative principles, that Republicans win!
Music to a grassroots conservative's ears, no doubt. But those views and sentiments weren't coming from a blogger friend of mine in the base. They came via interviews with two sitting Republican Congressmen. Yes, Conservatives, we do have friends and loyal foot soldiers in today's GOP. And when we get the chance, we need to acknowledge them, support them and hold them up as examples, saying, more please! Now!
After confirming that they billed themselves as Conservatives, I wanted to take advantage of an opportunity to interview Congressman Jim Jordan of Ohio's 4th District and Congressman Bob Latta, of Ohio 5. Prepared for the worst, speaking with both men proved a delightful surprise after too many years out here mostly bashing the GOP. Take heart conservatives, we have champions on the inside of the establishment. All is not lost. And we need to give them recognition, as well as support, when opportunities arise.
Representative Latta goes back to his Ohio home every weekend and talked of having attended 73 events during the August work period, bemoaning, as we do, Republicans in Washington who are out of touch. "The bureaucrats in Washington need to be sent back to their districts to see what's going on", said Latta.
For his part, Representative Jordan talked of how inspired he has been by the Tea Parties, having attended and spoken at several events, "Americans hate being told what to do. We actually value this thing called freedom." He went on to point out that, with the Republicans in the minority, it's going to require the American people to step up if we want to stop the radical Left currently running Washington. I don't know about you, but that sounds about right given where we are. And it's nice to know we aren't in the fight alone.
Both men hail from Ohio Districts mixed with both agriculture and manufacturing and their districts are hurting, in some cases even worse than is much of America. They realize the dangers to manufacturing and agriculture from things like Cap and Tax, regulation, and the wrong kind of health care reform we're fighting against right now. Obviously the latter issue was most on their minds the day I spoke with them.
Jordan mentioned Obama's associations with Bill Ayers and Reverend Wright and the concern they caused. But like most, he had hoped for the best. That doesn't seem to be the case now. Both men agreed that the Democrats seem determine to rule Congress with an iron fist and their politics are radical Left. "Who would believe," said Jordan, "that a Federal Pay Czar would be telling an American citizen how much money they can make?" You could hear the shock and amazement in his voice. And that was as it was throughout both interviews.
I've listened to and spoken with many politicians over the years. You can tell when you're getting the stump speech, the rehearsed line, or when the energy and passion fluctuates through a man's voice allowing you to judge that he's telling you the truth, telling you what he truly stands for and believes. Both of these fine Congressman sound like the real deal.
Rep. Jim Jordan and Rep. Bob Latta, two of the good guys, Republicans on our side for a change. And they didn't come asking for campaign contributions, or to pass on press releases. They did the interviews simply to speak with you through me. And what they need most is for us to have their backs. They are on the inside of the fight, they can help make a difference. But whether it's a Tea Party event, a DC protest, a call your Senator or Representative plea, or simply to let your voice be heard how ever it can be made to be, both talked of their current minority status and the need for conservatives to step up. Heck, you might even attend some meetings and support the GOP itself, though they didn't ask. The point is, we too have to step up given the odds the Right now faces inside the Beltway.
You might find you have more friends there than you thought. I know I did in this case when I spoke with Jordan and Latta. We either fight together right now, or we divide and go down. And if Conservatives go down, America is going with it, what with the Leftists in control of Washington and determined to run wild while running DC. Find your own way to do it. But help by joining these gentlemen is standing up, fighting for America's future and yelling, "Stop!"
And find some way to do it now.
