Sullivan's Latest Sarah Palin Attack Another Pathetic Lie

The Atlantic seems intent on milking randy Andy for all he's worth, even if his latest amounts to yet one more unfounded false smear of Sarah Palin. I can't recall a pundit other than Sullivan so willing to throw away any credibility they may have once had in such a misguided effort to try and smear someone. Even Dan Rather was fired before he could go this far.

By linking Wonkett's 27 seconds of edited video, both try and smear Palin as a quitter who dropped out of a race and also believes Thanksgiving traditions are simply too much work for her. Neither assertion is based upon any truth. And it's especially pathetic given how much of her own time Palin actually invested to help the Red Cross raise a significant amount of money, while she met and greeted people all throughout a 5k race.

And now, Sarah’s latest quitter stunt: She won’t even run an easy 5K thing for charity, because finishing is not a mavericky thing to do. ...notice how Miss Regular Folks thinks it’s “too much work” to prepare turkey for Thanksgiving.

Now read the actual news report from the event and see the entire video via Jim Hoft at Gateway Pundit. Palin gave so much of her time to the Red Cross that day, they were simply waiting for the next day to celebrate a more formal Thanksgiving. Nothing could be more in the spirit of the day. I imagine Andy simply sat home on his fat ass.

Wonkett has the excuse that it's the un-serious, trashy site it was always designed to be. That The Atlantic has sunk to a level where they have no qualms with posting outright lies and misleading smears is a disgrace to the talented, high-minded intellectuals that founded what now amounts to just a rag thanks to Sullivan and the editors that employ him.

At the time I thought Palin gave too easy ammo to the left even with the security problems at the finish line. In fact it sounds like something staged by the left. Cause security protests at the finish line so that Palin's security detail asks her not to finish. then try to smear her for the fact that the left caused the security problems and never mention the problems. For evidence, the left has protested Palin all along the book tour. they have even tried to throw eggs at her and her family. This is their mode of operation. Hell they intentionally filed ethics complaints in AK to drive her to bankruptcy in the first place, they intentionally filed complaints every time she spoke about anything, left the state, wore certain clothes. They intentionally set up the conditions that made her resign the goverenorship. and yet people can not see the left's actions. They instead concentrate on Palin's reactions and the media fails to report those actions that caused the reactions.

That doesn't mean either should be president. It means the left regards her as a danger to be removed through any means possible.

Clearly they have never cooked a turkey let alone a complete Thanksgiving meal. If you want to eat by 4pm, you're up by 5am. Have they ever cooked a dinner for 20 people before? It is exhausting, hence the phrase, "The cook never eats." One can readily imagine Palin's family cooks a traditional meal, and are not availing themselves of catered fare or take out dishes so prevalent, in my experience, on NYC tables.

It was common in my home that many a Thanksgiving traditional meal would be served the following day due to family service time constraints giving back to the community. Either helping to prepare a meal in the community kitchen, serving, cleaning up the space, delivering meals, or spending time with the elderly. Through church or the Ladies Auxilliary, there was always something new or limited the family could choose to do.

You could hold out till 6am but my mom always liked her morning coffee and crossword, as do I. With the bread laid out the night before to crust up, you start off cutting, dicing, and sauteing the further ingredients for dressing. This has got to cool before placing in the turkey so you make your dough for fat noodle dumplings, pies and baked apples since this has to set in the fridge before use. Onto the turkey. Once stuffed, seasoned and in the oven with an extra dish of dressing baking and giblets boiling, your back to rolling out dumplings because they have to dry out or you'll get a gooey mess once dropped into the boiling gravy. Prepare and cook your pumpkin spice and pecan pie filling, and peel and core 20 apples. Roll out your pie crust and cover 20 apples too. Fill and bake. Tired yet? Don't plan on leaving the kitchen because the turkey needs basting, the dumplings need turning, giblets need stock, or the pie or baked apple crust will burn the moment you turn your back.

Side dishes. Now your cooking up cranberries with orange zest to cool and make jelly; baked yams with walnuts and marshmallow topping; potatoes for mash; mac'n cheese with cream, butter and Velveeta; green beans with white shoepeg corn, bacon and onion; and making rabbit salad. Don't forget the tray of black and green olives, sweet pickles, and green onions; biscuits with a candied cherry on top; caramel sauce for baked apples; and (my personal favorite) deviled eggs. Have you opened the wine yet?

Among all this, those family and friends have breakfast too. A light pancakes and eggs (bacon optional if you aren't running behind in time) from the awesome electric griddle because your stove and oven are otherwise occupied. With those dishes out of the way, you've got to set the table in all your best linens and finery. (Ironed and silver polished days before, hopefully.) But the luxury of having so many kitchen helpers (beyond the cleanup and pot wash so the area doesn't look like an Army came through) is the cook gets to steal 20 min. to dress up in their best family photo outfit, and clean the flour from her nose before serving.

As the turkey cools before carving, you're making up the gravy and dropping in dumplings and giblets; setting up the buffet; ensuring all the dishes are warm; and not forgetting the cold dishes in the fridge. Hungry? Amen.

I shall always be grateful for the dishwasher as it freed up countless hours for me and my sister to help our mother (and grandmother) in preparation, and learn how to cook. In NYC, to not undertake the above cursory list on a specific day when those who buy pixels by the barrel deem women are to be in a kitchen (or me not washing every dish by hand?), is to be called a quitter. Our full hearts from service on Thanksgiving Day made our full bellies the next all the more a blessing. As my children have learned too. Does The One know Gawker and Sully are not down with the White House and Hollywood calls to community service or are they endorsing and engaging in Michelle O's healthier eating through nutrition labels on vending machines at taxpayer expense?

It is bizzare how Sullivan latched onto Sarah. Why? Why the hatred of her? He is so invested in tearing her apart, in ways that are frankly beyond anything I have seen in politics. It is sick.

She is more of a social moderate (being pro life is not radical). Economic policy? She wants to drill for oil. She is against run away spending. None of that seems to matter for Sullivan, who is convinced she is James Dobson's avatar.

Palin was under constant attack by frivolous ethics complaints. (Look it up -- both the outcome of the complaints and the word "frivolous.") Those constant attacks had a detrimental effect on her ability to govern as they ate upwards of 80% of her (and her staff's) time. (Unlike Clinton, Palin actually CARED whether or not she was rendered ineffective...and, of course, unlike Clinton, the attacks were frivolous...)

Further, unlike anywhere else of which I'm aware, Palin had to foot the bill to defend against these constant attacks which continued even after she left office.

After many years of public service, these frivolous attacks would not only render her ineffective in the job she was hired to do, but they would ultimately financially bankrupt her.

So, she "quit."

Yep. That's the correct word. "Quit."

But, there are times when "quitting" is the proper thing to do. In this instance, Alaska is now being governed by a Governor who has the same agenda as Palin, one who is able to carry out that Agenda without the constant (and frivolous) attacks by the left wing loons.

Alaska benefits from Palin's "quitting."

"Quitting" allows her to give speeches for money. "Quitting" allowed her to finish her book and make a couple of million to help pay off those legal bills from the constant (frivolous) ethics complaints.

Palin and her family are rescued from potential financial bankruptcy by her "quitting."

"Quitting" allowed her to travel the country meeting people at her speeches and book signings. It allowed her to go onto talk shows and give America another look at her. America has decided, to the tune of a 20% jump in popularity in a few short months, that she is not quite what they had been fed to believe her to be. Had she stayed in office, hunkered down during her lame duck year against the constant barrage of frivolous ethical charges, she would not have been able to do this.

Palin's political influence has increased throughout America due to her "quitting."

"Quitting" allowed her to do that which she said she was going to do, i.e., get out there in America and fight for the candidates and causes in which she believes -- conservative causes and conservative candidates. With her current political clout, she will be able to affect many primaries in 2010 -- pushing more conservative candidates.

So, "quitting" has had many beneficial effects, from a more stable and effective government in Alaska, a stable financial house for Palin when she was faced with ruin, a rising conservative voice for America -- an America which has been afforded a second opportunity for a first look at Palin and an America which is finding her to be quite different from what they believed her to be.

All in all, "quitting" ain't always a bad thing...
