That we now have two generic national political parties content to win, or lose elections with expensive PR campaigns to mask a tragic lack of principles and dedication to any ideals has never been more concisely revealed than in this Politico item. The consequence is that one can't trust that the D, or R on a ballot means anything. There are simply two DCs in too many cases. The important questions are: who is on the side of the American people? And where can citizens feeling increasingly disconnected from their Federal Government turn for redress of grievances?
Two senior Democrats with ties to the White House praised Cuomo’s role in the operation, saying they were confident Scozzafava was on board after learning that she told Cuomo: "You're going to be the next governor of New York."
Also critical was Silver’s assurance, in a phone conversation with Scozzafava, that the state Assembly Democratic caucus would embrace her if she chose to switch parties, now viewed as a real possibility after her endorsement Sunday of Owens.
The simple answer is, the GOP is best positioned right now to genuinely alter its course and become a party of the people, again. If it does that, it may well have the opportunity to become the dominant political party in America for a decade, or more before once again heading down a path to where it needs renewal. But if it fails to do that, our national politics run the risk of fracturing on both the Left and the Right, resulting in what might almost be a form of anarchy in the end.
It is that, more than anything which ultimately presents the threat of America becoming no longer a truly free country, as there would be no consolidated single power capable of dealing with the Federal Government in its many forms. These are increasingly critical times for the future of the Republic we call home.

Narcissists like Obama are not stable, balanced people- and they ARE obsessive.
IMHO it was always inevitable he would self-destruct... he simply doesn't know where to quit or draw the line, craves TOTAL control. Since that's not going to happen, he was doomed to fail. I thought he'd have more sense than to flush it all so quickly like he's doing, though-
People like Sarah Palin have the product to deliver that Americans will be craving by 2012, and the Dems are teeing it up for us just beautifully... you are SO right, Dan- the ball is in OUR court, and our nation's best -and only- hope is the Republican Party returning to the proven principles that made it great.
Tomorrow is simply HUGE- in terms of setting Obama back on his heels, and putting the GOP on track for greatness once again. Newt Gingrich was making some sense last weekend when he said the days of the party picking candidates is over. Now an apology would be nice...

I don't believe the GOP is ready to do so, only some individuals sporting its colors, as this debacle has shown.

Please note, I am NOT saying that we are at that point now, or anywhere close to it. But that is, ultimately the only way to ensure redress. If the statists in both parties continue their slow march towards despotism, sooner or later we will be at that point.
