And there's more at the link to The Examiner. Read it all FWIW. But put your boots on first. As the Examiner points out, it doesn't really cover the Hoffman attacks, or some of the spending. And nothing can cover for the Scozzafava endorsements, now can it? Obviously coupled with Cornyn's announcement on no primary spending, they quickly got their heads together with the consultants and plotted a strategy out of this mess.
For now my take is this: releases and consultants only amount to words, just words, as they say. Actions, on the other hand, are your responsibility, sirs. And only you can undertake them. Let's see some of those that show us that you get it, then get back to us. I don't mean to sound disrespectful, simply appropriately cynical.
Don't tell us that you love us, show us that you aren't going to simply screw us and leave and we might consider giving you a call back. ::::smoochies:::
At a meeting of Washington conservatives this morning, House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, expressed pride over GOP success in last night's election. But questions about NY-23 remain -- so I asked him whether there was an effort to get New York Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava, the GOP nominee in that race, to endorse Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman.
"There was a huge effort," he replied.
When asked about rumors that the New York Republican Party picked Scozzafava because of the advice of Washington insiders who felt she would be a more electable candidate, Boehner rolled his eyes. "We told them to hold off on a decision, to work with us, but they went ahead and did it."
Pete Sessions is playing "cover your assets" too. In a statement:
"After two special elections in New York, there is no doubt in my mind that the candidate selection process lacks openness and transparency and should be changed to a primary system so voters can have a say in who their respective parties nominate."

Of course, the DC GOP ducked and covered.
Last night, they got a visit from:

So, Pete thinks NYS should change Election Law to have primaries whenever there's a vacancy no matter when they occur in the year? Does that include having special petition circulation periods before primaries and if the whole rigmarole of petition/primary/general doesn't quite fit with normal petition/primary/general dates, we should have provision for a running a second overlapping one also?
Pete, think before you speak, lest you remove all doubt.

Newt is a fraud. He sold his soul to be accepted by the socialist media. He should stay in the couch with nancy and go fishing with sharpton. There is no need for him in the GOP.

Newt is just another example of how some people cannot make it to old age with all their faculties intact.

Sadly, I must admit that Newt's 'political capital' has dropped considerably with me; the saddest part is his disconnect between his written 'stances' and his 'public' behavior. At this time I value his 'street cred' at ZERO and haven't the faintest idea how can redeem himself.
As to your Boehner quote: I'm inclined to believe him; far too many state GOP committees have drifted into the 'clueless zone', my own state [Ohio] included. In my mind, that's where the most effort by conservatives needs to be focused: at the local/state level.
Recapturing operative control on the local level is the surest way to reform and CLOSE the primary process, which I regard as a critical issue.
Until then, the 'rats will control the Republican 'filtering process', which IS de facto control of the GOP.

The key, almost lost, point of NY-23 is that the Republican, Scozzafava, only got 6%.
The "Republican after thought" conservative candidate, Hoffman, who lost by 2%, may just have lost based purely on party line voting by some Republicans, who didn't get the message they were dealing with one of those obsolete "Florida-style" ballots (the ballots that had Gore voters voting for Buchanan).
The lesson for the GOP .. don't expect somebody else to do your heavy lifting.
Do it simple and do it yourself .. because many voters (in both parties) are 4 cans shy of a 6-pack.
