Someone used the word Hucked-up on Twitter the other day. I remember commenting at the time. If anything is "Hucked-up," this is. Huckabee may not be the only individual guilty here and neither is Arkansas the only state. But why we keep returning this kind of scum to the street is a crime all by itself. They say the Constitution isn't a suicide pact. Well, neither should be trumped up Constitutional Rights. Degenerates like Maurice Clemmons should be shot in the head and left for dead whenever they get caught.
Huckabee, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination last year, issued a statement tonight calling the slaying of the police officers "a horrible and tragic event."
If Clemmons is found responsible, "it will be the result of a series of failures in the criminal justice system in both Arkansas and Washington State," Huckabee said.
He added that Clemmons' release from prison had been reviewed and approved by the Arkansas parole board.
Clemmons had been in jail in Pierce County for the past several months on a pending charge of second-degree rape of a child. He was released from custody just six days ago, even though was staring at seven additional felony charges in Washington state.

Just like Ft. Hood, we find a series of bright, flashing, oversized LED "dots" that were not connected by those responsible for protecting our nation and communities.

Dan,
Just as an FYI, this fits the pattern for the violent-felon-loving Huckabee:
Huckabee issued more clemencies, commutations, and pardons than all six nieghboring states combined: http://www.arkansasleader.com/frontstories/st_08_11_04/huckabee8.html

As much as Washingtonians would like to blame this on some evil governor in a far away land, let us not forget that he was in custody just 6 days ago and released.

true but Huckabee had him first. There are two commutations of this sort under huck's belt. He bears more of a burden than he cares to take credit. It appears he's your typical career minded politician.

The Problem is with Judges, Not Governors. This dirtbag has quite the record and does not belong outside a Prison. Vote Activist and Incompetent Judges out of Office. I hold the Judge that released Clemmons to be equally as guilty. Violent Offenders do not belong on Our Streets. Period.

They all should be on trial with Maurice Clemmons for four counts of premeditated first degree murder. Huckabee, the parole board, the judges the whole lot of 'em.
Just because you can doesn't mean you do it. Hasn't any of them ever read the 9th Amendment? It applies to all levels of every government within the US.
Huckabee killed those cops as if he pulled the trigger himself. He ought to hang for it four times over, as all the others should be.

fixed that for ya!

I live in Pierce County and have followed our judges releasing criminals who are bound to commit more crimes on low bail. Clemmons was out on a $150K bond, after he raped a little girl...he punched a cop in the face and got $40K...Huckabee and Arkansas were no help though. Thanks for dropping the ball on that fugitive issue!

I think maybe the real problem is prison overcrowding, so the system is geared toward letting people out early. Maybe it's time to start backing off the pointless and destructive war on drugs and pay closer attention to scumballs like Clemmons and his ilk instead.

so I have a party and someone gets drunk and drives home and crashes. the families come after me in civil court for serving alcohol.
if you bail a violent person, via a contract, you bear no responsibility for their actions?

"They all should be on trial with Maurice Clemmons for four counts of premeditated first degree murder. Huckabee, the parole board, the judges the whole lot of 'em."
A significant number of cop killers had priors for murder. The FBI keeps track of that kind of data and issues a report each years on cops killed and injured.
Its been years since I looked at one of them, but I vaguely recall number may be in the 30% range.
Among the general populace, I believe its around 10% of murders are done by perps with priors felony convictions for something.
This is the dark side of so called "compassion". It invariably gets a statistically significant number of people murdered each year who otherwise wouldn't be.

"I think maybe the real problem is prison overcrowding, so the system is geared toward letting people out early."
And no one wants to raise taxes to pay for more prisons.

The problem is Congress and the states passing law after law making avg citizens criminals over petty issues which overcrowd our prisons whic cause judges to use it has an excuse to release others. Here is an idea instead of trying to make everyone a criminal let's concentrate on true crime and put these people away away.

I think those of you lumping Huckabee in with typical career politicians are giving typical career politicians a bad (worse) name. I haven't forgotten his campaign's crass "it's not a cross, it's an accident of the lighting" ad from Christmas 2007. He's a shady, duplicitous f'tard who shouldn't be in any kind of public office.
I thought Huckabee's weird predilection for paroling violent felons should've resulted in his swift marginalization during the GOP primaries but the SOB outlasted everyone but McCain. The problem is, there are some religious right voters who see "former Baptist pastor" and see that he's anti-abortion so blindly vote for the SOB without looking at his record: higher taxes, commuting sentences of violent felons, etc. This is what happens when the party becomes beholden to one issue or one constituency.
This particular case wasn't isolated and had nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with prison overcrowding. Clemmons' sentence was commuted because his violent crimes occurred when he was "young." Huckabee's statement about the Washington police murders seems to deflects his role in releasing such a sociopath back into society by spreading the blame elsewhere, and I'm sure there's plenty blame to go around (particularly since the culprit was bailed out less than a week ago).
If you were one of the thoughtful voters in 2008, you knew that Huckabee had serious credibility issues when it came to law enforcement. Prosecutors and police in Arkansas had no confidence in him. Editorials like the one below demonstrate that even when prosecutors got maximum sentences from juries, the SOB would pardon or commute sentences and then blame prosecutors/juries for not adequately doing their jobs.
http://www.arkansasleader.com/frontstories/st_06_23_04/huckabee.html
He's the one who wasn't adequately doing his job. This SOB should never have been a serious contender for any party's nomination.

PS: The 2004 editorial I linked to freaking names Maurice Clemmons as an example of Hucktard's recklessness when it came to his clemency powers.

Ah, memory jog. This is the reason I don't like Huckabee. I had forgotten that he is a bleeding-heart idiot.

"The Washington Legislature's budget cuts have reduced the number of community corrections officers supervising criminals released from state prisons. Sen. Mike Carrell, R-Lakewood [WA], argues lawmakers should make public safety a higher priority, no matter the budget challenges." ... "--- Violent Offenders do not belong on Our Streets. Period. ---"
Correct. Their decapitated, gibbeted heads belong on pikes in major pedestrian traffic areas, and their quartered bodies displayed in their respective parts on display in major road intersections.
Once again, the state has failed to adequately dispense God's justice upon murderers.
"--- And no one wants to raise taxes to pay for more prisons. ---"
Now here... the Red Chinese show us a better example: give the perp a "noodle" (bullet in the back of the skull) and charge the family of the murderer for the cost of the .22 shell used to dispatch the vermin.
.22 shells are quite adequate (esp. at point blank range) and are dirt cheap.

"This is the reason I don't like Huckabee. I had forgotten that he is a bleeding-heart idiot."
Oh FFS! Some of you are apparently unable to read. Several articles so far have pointed out that Huckabee's tendency to release prisoners stems from his Christian ideals that people can be reformed.
So, what, being too Christian is now a liberal thing?
Trying to follow the bouncing ball of right-wing logic gives me a damn headache.
