Instapundit aka Perfessor Reynolds links a helpful Volokh Conspiracy item on the proper use of punctuation with quotation marks. I confess to sometimes pondering the use of the British versus American model for quotation marks, myself. As an aside, unfortunately, it doesn't deal with comma splices and run on sentences. I should probably look elsewhere for that those, especially when blogging tired.
Be that as it may, Volokh appears to use correct as an example at one point.
Note, of course, that this is a question of what is better stylistically, aesthetically, and functionally, not what is “correct.”
Example or not, above, you'll note the inappropriate use of quotation marks around correct. Aha! I knew it! Busted!
ADDRESSING ONE OF MY “PET PEEVES:” The “Blog” of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks.
Is there one for inappropriate apostrophes, too — like those signs on RVs that say “The Smith’s”?
Obviously, Instapundit is just another far Right wing hack with an agenda and no principals principles, even if he is a more moderate Libertarian. I'm not going to worry about minor details given that the topic is grammer grammar. They always expose theirselves themselves if you watch them long enough.
(Don't blame me if I still screwed up, I'm only a blogger, dammit!) Hmm. Should the punctuation go inside, or outside the parentheses? Actually, (it depends).

I "hate" "unnecessary" quotation marks. I don't "like" them at all. In fact, I "loathe" them. "Never" use them.

There are an awful lot of comments about the quotation marks usage on Volokh. People have a lot of time on their hands.

A large majority of personalities from the GOP, er um, I mean, FOX News channel, seem to have forgotten that past shows can be accessed at any time. Glenn Beck recently has stated we have the best health care system in the world, and have no need for reform. Yet, when he had his own surgery a few years ago, he was recorded as saying our health care system is in need of sweeping changes, and that they don’t care about the common man.
