You still want to tell me this is a guy who should be taken seriously as a political leader of some kind? One can imagine the sound bytes we'd be hearing from his relatively low-rated radio show. If he's your cup of political infotainment, fine. But thinking of him as anything more than that is silly. h/t Jennifer

I'm not a big fan of beck. I do like the fact that he is hitting Obama on a reg basis. I personally think Beck's draw is more the fact that he is fighting Obama when everyone else is trying to date him. but if beck is going after Palin I think his 15min is about up.

I don't get to listen to Beck nearly enough, I s'pose, because I haven't really heard anything he's said with which I'd disagree.
I'm with unseen, though - he's been very effective in going after Bambi, but if he's gonna go after Sarah, I doubt he'll last with the base much longer.

Forrest for the trees (haven't clicked on the vid) .... we need to edit. Pick and choose. Taking the good, accepting the shortcomings (or just leaving them behind). No one's perfect (see a certain blogging deity, last couple of days). Least of all, some guy who has to come up with HOURS worth of live television programming. Each and every single day.
Around the sphere, around all media. Edit and decide for yourselves/ourselves.
Criticize freely, but not merely for the sake thereof. Or of course on autopilot.
(this where I then go ahead and watch the vid)
Why are we even talking about this? Y'all can save yourself the 2:39 (that you'll never get back).
In the context of Dan's sayin the Bexster ain' premium grade. Sure ... I'd hafta agree. Often just a doofus goofin (radio or TV).
But then there are moments when he well and truly is the only man standing, and delivering.
He is what he is. I rarely watch any of them. But I won't cut off me nose, to spite my face. When a hidden sparkling 100ct diamond is unearthed from out the barren, devastated political wasteland. That is Obamaland. For us to admire ... in the glinting light it sheds upon the evil darkness.
Collectively. We move forward, together. Or we fail.

I like Beck, but he sounds real snarky here, spitting the dummy on an off the cuff remark Palin made about him. First time I have had doubts about him, but now I wonder ....

He's joking around.

Actually you could've picked a better clip. This one is a joke. There's nothing there. There's a show I heard where he was ripping her accent. That was stupid. I like Beck a lot but he sounded elitist.
But Levin's "get off the phone you jerk!" is better in what way? Obama is doing everything possible to destroy this country and you're wasting your time and talents on Beck?
Honestly, I like this blog but this is getting obsessive on your part and I'm starting to think you have an agenda. You've been in D.C. too long.
Posted by: USMC | Friday, November 27, 2009 at 07:24 AM
Beck nowadays sounding more like O'Reilly. Whenever talk about dems & O, add Republicans & Bush are the same. Everyone is bad except for himself. O'Reilly is doing the same, repeating Media Matters spin covering up for O.
Palin was asked a question & she responded. I didn't think she would choose Beck as her running mate. Questioner was from Fox, so she responded respectfully.
Beck is waaay over his head. He is more & more sounding like a spoiler for Republicans.

My mom was a regular Beck viewer.............until she heard this clip.

" You've been in D.C. too long."
Come on, USMC. I like you but you're better than that. Pointing out that I don't believe Beck would be a good national leader for conservatism has gotdamned nothing to do with where I live.
If you want to take exception to something, feel free to do it. But do better than that. Were Levin or Limbaugh talking the tear down both parties nonsense Beck is, I'd say the same things about them. And THEY are no better suited to lead a formal movement than is Beck. Separating the seriousness of our national politics and what the conservative movement has to achieve on a broad scale from infotainment like our radio talkers present is smart no matter where one lives. And it's most especially true right now with the progressives running amok in DC.

Hyper-sensitive much? Lighten up, and listen again.
1) Beck is "ruling it out" because he thinks that they could not win together. "Too much of a good thing" for conservatives, too easy for the other side to demagogue. I believe, though he doen't say it here, that Beck understands that he would be a burden to _any_ ticket in the real world, even though the statute has run on all his past transgressions. "I own ridiculous." (I'd love to see him in the White House. I'm resigned to that not happening.)
2) The "yapping" comment was a riff on left-wing stereotypes of conservatives, not an insult to Palin. According to the trope, he's _supposed_ to be _offended_ at the notion of second billing to a *woman*, after all.

Besides, as he points out often enough, Beck is a libertarian (note the small "l"), not a Republican. Who in the political establishment would dare to package a P/B (or B/P) ticket in the first place?

"Beck nowadays sounding more like O'Reilly. Whenever talk about dems & O, add Republicans & Bush are the same. Everyone is bad except for himself."
Agreed; it's like they're in competition for who is the best 'I'.
Becoming TV show host ends all potential to have a political career; Huckabee, Beck, O'Reilly are all about ratings thus would be impossible to take position as leader. Rush has great ratings and is wise enough to understand that 'ratings' does not equal 'leadership',

We could run a potted plant in 2012, and win in a walk. Though Buraq the Magic Pony, has already pulled up lame. And is standing/resting, at the top of a severe grade. And it awash in a steady stream, of continuously fed antifreeze.
He can, and will continue inflicting damage on America. On the way down.
I see all those in politics, public life, past office holders ... as the last buttress against total decay/destruction.
Whether it's Cheney, Steele, Palin, Dub taking the stinky pony to task. Or dems needling him (Patterson, Deaniac).
He's done. We need limit the damage. Until such time as his rotting remains are carted off for rendering.
And I'll take whomever returns the White House, back to America. Who ever shoves the big boot, all the way up the caliphate's *ss. Palin, Steele, Giuliani .... ?

Who wants Beck as any kind of political leader?
But, just because I don't want Beck (or Rush or Hannity or Levin) as a "political leader" doesn't mean that I won't watch his television show (never heard his radio show) and learn what I can learn from it.
And, just because I watch his television show doesn't mean that I'm going to just soak up and believe every single word he says -- any more than I will Hannity or Rush or Levin.
The guy has his uses. Ask anyone at ACORN. Ask Van Jones.

Oh, Dan...
While I recognize that the U.S. is a two party system and there is strong argument that the "R's" need to rebuild the "R" party rather than build a 3rd party, a move which might permanently relegate "R's" (and the 3rd party) to the ash-heap of political history -- you DO recognize that that ain't the ONLY possible outcome, don't you?
We currently have a two-party system that gives us: McCain and Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Jefferson, and Franken -- and NY-23...
These are GOOD results?
So, unless you're going to make the argument that having the "D's" and "R's" as the only two viable political parties UNTIL THE END OF TIME, then there MUST come a time when a challenge to those two parties actually occurs.
And, if there's a BETTER time than now for challenging those two parties for political control over this country -- a time when 45% of the country self-identifies as "conservative" and the country is in overwhelming agreement that both parties essentially SUCK -- I'm really not sure when that time would be.

Please. Beck is okay, but he's Howard Beale.
There's only so far that thing can go.
Posted by: section9 | Friday, November 27, 2009 at 10:07 AM
Serious or not, one of the many 'contributions' that Beck has made is to 'wake up' a certain portion of the voting public that had previously been sleeping through the living hell known as the reign of Obama the 1st.

Ppl label Beck's comment as sexist. But after listening to it, I disagree. He was playing the evil conservative stereotype from a Liberal's point of view. He was joking around.

'I personally think Beck's draw is more the fact that he is fighting Obama when everyone else is trying to date him.'
NOBODY IN THE MSM/TV IS DOING A BETTER JOB OF ATTACKING OBAMA.

He was joking around.
I'm perfectly willing to accept he was just joking around. Frankly, I don't either way. My only point is, one can not spend hours a day joking around for years, then survive as a movement leader. Every joke will simply be brought up by any oppositionmovement to discredit Beck's movement. And that's what far too many people will actually buy into.
It makes it impossible to grow a large movement.

Beck as three hours to fill on radio and then a TV Show. Just like Rush will never run for office, neither will Beck. That said, while I consider Beck to be just what he is--entertainment. And I often disagree with him on both his style and substance (I thought his call for those in the military not to re-up was irresponsible), he is what he is. And he is attacking Barack Obama and the Democrats. And I welcome that.
Is Lou Dobbs quitting CNN and now talking about running really a plot hatched by Rahm, CNN, and Axelrod to split Republican/conservative votes?

Later in the broadcast, Beck commented on Martha Stewart's trashing of Sarah Palin, calling her dangerous, etc. Paraphrasing:
Uh huh. These comments no doubt formulated while sitting in prison for insider trading.
Just like most of us, Beck adores Sarah Palin, and although he recently did express disapproval of her Minnesota golly gee whiz accent, which does get a little grating sometimes, let's not forget that his show on CNN is where most of us were first introduced to Palin long before her selection. That appearance may very well have been instrumental in her getting noticed by the McCain camp. Or that he had her on as his guest for his first show on Fox.
One thing I like about Beck, mostly on the radio, is that he and his buddies have a great sense of humor, which they also use to get points across. You just don't see this kind of positive, light-hearted energy on the left. And yes, he does get deadly serious sometimes.
I hope people aren't making judgements based on media matters clips. You really have to listen to his entire show over a period of time to really understand where he's coming from, and that's usually from a pretty common sense and insightful place.
Another thing....... I don't think you'd have known way back in 2006 about the coming economic downturn listening to Limbaugh or Levin. I only wish I'd listened to Glenn; I'd be a lot better off now financially and situationally.

Beck is not a political leader -- will never be -- doesn't want to be. I think we're seeing power form outside the political class -- it'll be a different ride.
