From Leesburg, as in Virginia, Today. If you had any doubts as to whether or not Virginia is going Blue this should resolve that question. The folks in Loudoun County aren't particularly pleased.
Silly, ... what do they have to do with anything? As increasingly with everywhere else, it is government that gets to call the shots. For now, at least. But will this stand, or will a Christmas Tree eventually stand on the courthouse grounds when all is said and done? Stay tuned.
A new policy set into motion by the Facilities and Grounds Committee of the Loudoun County Courthouse now prohibits displays on the courthouse grounds. This means no more Christmas trees, nativity scenes or any other holiday displays, something that has left some local residents in despair.
The Rotary Club of Leesburg has undertaken the tradition of placing a Christmas tree on the grounds of the courthouse for almost 50 years, with no obstacles up until now. The club's Phil Rusciolelli has led that effort for the past five years. But, following weeks of not receiving a response from the committee about the this year's Christmas tree placement, Rusciolelli received what likely may be the final verdict Tuesday night: all displays on the courthouse grounds, holiday related or not, are now prohibited.
"I do not understand the rationale for this decision but I do know it flies a face of any holiday or Christmas spirit," Rusciolelli said. "We are a traditional county and town founded on the freedoms that include freedom of religion."
Leesburg attorney Debbie Welch and her husband Dennis had also petitioned the committee to place a nativity creshe on the grounds and, because of the new policy, received the same response. They, too, had been putting up the creshe for 20 years.

The world has gone mad. Take a look at this 33 ft traffic-cone looking Christmas tree in GB

I don't get it. Are you saying that this mean Va. is going blue? To me what a board of a few people decided (in a red part of the state though) doesn't mean Va. is now Democrat territory. There are plenty of instances of blue states doing Conservative sounding things, and you wouldn't say that they are becoming redder. I think you are inferring a little too much into this.
Yes it is disappointing. Does it mean that Virginia is now reliably Democrat? Not even close. I think that in '12 we will see Obama lose the state, for that matter, I don't see any way for Obama to hold Co., Oh., NC, or In.. Middle America isn't going more Democrat, its going the other way.
On some issues we are becoming more Liberal (gay marriage, sadly), but decidedly more Conservative on affirmative action, abortion, and on limitted government regulation and taxation.

Oh to have to good ole days back again....where people celebrated Christmas and there were no crazed folks out there running their mouths and putting Christmas down and calling Christians names like Jesus Freaks and putting them down like their were a disease. Yep those were the good times when everyone minded their own business.
Now we have a society of "real freaks" and they damn well aren't Christians. Just a bunch of spineless low life trashy "scumbag" idiots. :O).
Merry Christmas everyone !

Forbidden to put up a Christmas tree in the public square yet whenever devout Catholic Andrew Sullivan publicly crucifies Mother and Child the public applauds his intellectual sterility.

The answer to these decrees by (presumably) unelected ideologues on the "Facilities and Grounds Committee", which was probably created to serve just this purpose, is to simply put the tree up, along with the nativity scene and dare any fascistic lowlife to come mess with it. The time for petitioning people who have no right whatsoever to decree anything is over, as far as I'm concerned.

This is a joke! Next year Christmas will be banned, we will all be forced to celebrate Islam and Haunika (spell?). This politically correct bullshit needs to stop. You want your freedom? Then celebrate christmas or keep your mouth shut.
