TRENTON, N.J. — Republican Chris Christie has defeated Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine in New Jersey.
With 71 percent of precincts reporting Tuesday night, Christie had 50 percent of the vote to Corzine's 44 percent.
Christie, a 47-year-old former federal prosecutor, became the first member of his party in a dozen years to win a statewide contest in heavily Democratic New Jersey.
The Republican victory deals a blow to President Barack Obama as he readies for next year's midterm elections. Obama campaigned heavily for Corzine.

Yeah and a Dem is winning in a district that hasn't voted Dem in 150 years. So much for your neat little storylines. Remember when the Palin/Hoffman landslide was the talk of the blog?

"Yeah and a Dem is winning in a district that hasn't voted Dem in 150 years."
voted dem in 08. obama won the district.
speaking of 'states obama won'...
virginia and nj.
won va by 6.3%, the dem lost tonite by 20%.
won nj by 14.7%, the dem lost tonite by 4%.
for va, 06, dems gained no seats.
in 08, the dems gained 3. This is pretty much like spotting the gop those house seats.
nj? 06 no gain, 08, +1 dems.
the seat went 52-48, and without obama on the ballot, this is the fourth congressional seat.
as for ny-23?
it is a one year term. the dem will be in campaign mode from day one, in a conservative district. He's just keeping the seat warm for hoffman.

Think Barry knows there's a teaparty movement yet?

I really thought Corzine was going to pull it out, but how sad that the best reason he could come up for voting for him was that Obama is his BFF and Christie's an evil Republican.
Although the media is obviously trying to spin NY 23 as a big loss for Republicans, I think its a win, because an unknown guy who wasn't even on the ballot as a Republican got almost half of the votes.....
I think and hope it shows that Republicans will turn out for those who support fiscal restraint and conservative values.

Cause for celebration, even if a somewhat muted one:
Because a conservative "nobody" came within a few hairs of beating a well-funded, Obama-endorsed, ACORN-loving, Union-trough-feeding pair of socialists - one a Democrat, the other a falsely-flagged Republican.
And the NJ/VA victories are definitely good news as well.
