I suppose in DC this passes for cover. To the grassroots, if it does anything, it puts some of the fall-out over Snowe's vote on McConnell. I guess it's also part of trying to not let the Republicans be branded as the party of No. But I'm not sure No isn't the right answer.
Unfortunately, on top of all that, I honestly think that the climate in Maine has damaged most everyone's brain. And Vermont may not be much better. They're worse than Canada up there when it comes to socialism. I wouldn't be surprised if they just want those federal dollars to keep coming in.
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell made the following statement Tuesday regarding the Finance Committee vote on partisan health care reform:
“Sen. Snowe called me this morning to let me know that while she continues to have serious, substantive policy reservations with this proposal, she wanted to keep the process moving. I share her concerns about the direction of this bill once it leaves the committee, and her call for transparency before we vote to proceed to any bill on the floor.
"The fact is, this proposal will never come before the Senate. But what we do know is that the bill written behind closed doors here in the Capitol will be another 1,000-page, trillion-dollar Washington takeover. We know it will slash a half-trillion dollars from seniors’ Medicare, add new taxes and raise premiums. That’s not reform.”

As a liberal, I had wished that she didn't vote for the bill. Now we are going to go through this charade of once again looking for bipartisanship. Bipartisanship my ass. @%*& the republicans and lets get a bill that really gets the job done without compromise. Let them be the party that voted down Health Care reform... like they opposed social security... and medicare... Let them live with being the party of no.
Why do conservatives hate America?

We all wished for a little party unity today. Why can't we just ban together when tough stuff like this happens? Goodnessssssss it just drives me crazy. Why do we even adhere to a party label if we're going to throw it out the window.
Speaking of party unity. I saw an ad today for Michele Bachmann's website, some event or something going on tomorrow on her site. Anyone know what's going on?

Apparently Proud Liberal really isn't all that bright.
Had he the sense God gave a rock he would realize that bringing up Social Security and Medicare were rather large mistakes.
First of all they are both massive money pits which will not remain solvent for much longer.
Secondly he would have noticed that the current plans will seriously slash the available funds in Medicare.
And in response to an earlier post on a different thread, I would like to point out that Medicare is the largest denier of services in the US, by both sheer numbers and percentage of claims denied.

Oh, and it's because of Medicare that fees for docs were pretty much "fixed" at what the government (AKA Medicare) decides. If the govt would let the free market take care of this, it wouldn't put our country in debt for a VERY LONG TIME. Raising taxes on the producers of society doesn't generate more revenue. The media can shout from the rooftops that the recession is OVER but until the jobless rate drops, people aren't going to believe it. Period. The unwashed masses aren't QUITE that dumb.
If it's SUCH a great and wonderful health plan, then how come the elite political clowns in Congress will have a different option (i.e. plans of CHOICE)??
The hypocrisy of this seems VERY obvious. How obtuse can you be?

Pssst: I know that Neal Boortz and prolly Rushbo read Dan's blog so here's some show prep for you'ns. The FIRST group to be FORCED into a public "option" will be federal employees/retirees.

She wanted to "keep the process moving". Well that's really good Senator. Keep the process of a unresponsive, inefficient, politically motivated, waste filled, fraud filled, pork ridden government health care program alive ? Is that the process that you're referring to ? Can you name just ONE federal government program which has been successful ? ONE ? And you are a member of WHICH party ? The Republican Party ? The one which stands for limited government, lower taxes, and fiscal responsibility ? Freedom, liberty, responsibility ? Who are you trying to kid ?

"By 2050, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid (health care for the poor) will consume nearly the entire federal budget."

Snowe reminds me of a lemming who, when told by another lemming, "Hey, we're heading toward the edge of a cliff!" replies, "Shut up, at least we're moving forward."

"Snowe reminds me of a lemming..."
LOL!
Good one MarkJ, sounds like most of the Democrat party as well.

"--- Why do conservatives hate America? ---"
We don't hate anything or anyone. Except maybe unworkable socialist ideas that fly in the face of reality.
Or perhaps, we hate what we see America becoming under the stewardship of socialists and others who pretend to love liberty, but are actually power-mongering statists out to wreck this nation.

Well thankfully we have a model of competency and ethics in the past administration.
Every major economic body of statistics ( i.e. poverty levels, number of uninsured, etc, ), as stated by the US Census, has gotten worse under the Bush Administration. I am still amazed at the level of myopic fantasy by this group that the Left is the culprit when such compelling and overwhelming evidence exists that the Right’s policies got us here. Fanatical belief not supported by reality, man have I got a bridge to sell you.
