Good luck with this one, clown. But then, Al "not so slim shady" Sharpton is probably only looking at some press and raising more money over it than anything else.
From Rush Limbaugh's WSJ item:
It didn't take long before my name was selectively leaked to the media as part of the Checketts investment group. Shortly thereafter, the media elicited comments from the likes of Al Sharpton. In 1998 Mr. Sharpton was found guilty of defamation and ordered to pay $65,000 for falsely accusing a New York prosecutor of rape in the 1987 Tawana Brawley case. He also played a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot (he called neighborhood Jews "diamond merchants") and 1995 Freddie's Fashion Mart riot
From Reverend Al Not So Slim Shady:
WASHINGTON (CNN)– Reverend Al Sharpton and his lawyers say they are preparing to file a defamation lawsuit against conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh for an op-ed published Saturday, which Sharpton alleges "erroneously" characterizes his (Sharpton's) role in a string of violent incidents in New York in the early 90's.
In the op-ed published in Saturday's Wall Street Journal Limbaugh writes Sharpton "played a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot (he called neighborhood Jews ‘diamond merchants’) and 1995 Freddie's Fashion Mart riot."
From Right-wing rag, Slate:
Quote: At a funeral on Aug. 26, 1991, Sharpton complained about "the diamond merchants right here in Crown Heights," a disparaging reference to the Brooklyn neighborhood's Orthodox Jewish population.
From another conservative rag, the New York Times:
The Rev. Al Sharpton, on a journey that he described as a stopover in hell, came to Israel today to serve a legal summons on a young Hasidic Jew who was a central figure in the racial violence in Crown Heights last month.
Mr. Sharpton did not find his man, but then he did not have much time. He wound up staying in the country for only about three hours, dropping off his legal papers at the United States Embassy in Tel Aviv before flying off to Frankfurt.
Had he stayed much longer, he would have found himself essentially unable to move because Ben-Gurion International Airport shut down this evening for 25 hours for Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement.
Mr. Sharpton was accompanied by Alton H. Maddox Jr., the New York lawyer who has been a leader in black protests in Crown Heights. A Court Summons
Another item mentioning not so slim shady:
Some blatantly anti-Semitic rhetoric was expounded by some community leaders who headed non-violent marches and protests parallel to the street violence. Speaking of the accident at Cato's funeral, Al Sharpton famously said "The world will tell us that he (Cato) was killed by accident. Yes, it was a social accident? It's an accident to allow an apartheid ambulance service in the middle of Crown Heights."
Suggesting Jewish community responsibility for the death of Cato--and condoning the violence that was then ravaging the streets--some of the rioters proudly alluded to the anti-Semitism of Nazi Germany: a banner was seen at Cato's funeral stating, "Hitler did not finish his job."

Jeff Jacoby nailed the "reverend" in this 2003 article.

Some black kids beat up Jimmy Breslin during that riot. Made my day.

I seem to recall Sharpton demonstrating against "white interlopers" at Freddie's shortly before the fire.

I'm starting to see a silver lining in all this race-baiting BS
These rabble-rousing hypocrites like Sharpton, Jackson, and yes -Team Obama- are cock-a-hoop over their temporary takeover of this country... and in the ensuing excitement, they are seriously overplaying their hand... as any facade of "justice" crumbles away.
Now all who gave them the benefit of the doubt, or succumbed to some racial guilt or fashion, are shocked and appalled to find out just what hateful ingrates these power-drunk bozos are-
They are doing massive damage to race relations in this country- a lot of people are really growing to resent having their best intentions expoited by a lying affirmative action scam-artist last November, and are positively nauseated by being told they're a "racist" every time they try and reason in good faith with this out-there-where-the-busses-don't-run Alinskyite, racist administration.
I know I've had MY fill...

Race-bater that he is, Sharpton did not "play a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot". He said these things at the boy's funeral, which took place well after the riots were over.
That means Limbaugh lied. Which is funny, because he has spent the past few days whining about a few false quotes attributed to himself, which should somehow absolve him of all the other racist things he has actually said.
Conservatives are such a sorry bunch these days. How is it that your heads don't explode?

This is all window dressing. Everything RL wrote is well documented. He was right there at the Crown Heights incident. Sharpton's big mouth kills him. The question is who put Brawley up to the false charges and the feces???Maybe we should go back and take a closer look.

Regardless. Sharpton was not present for the riots, so to say he played a leading roll in the riots is a lie, and you know it. Limbaugh is no better than those who lied about him - worse actually, because he lacks the ability to see what he himself is doing.
This is why people hate him, and why none of the players wanted to work for the loser. He's unstable, not a good quality in a boss. But clearly a good quality in a rightwing pundit. No wonder the nation deteriorated under a decade of Republican rule.

But of course, John supports those who lied about Limbaugh and says that what they did was right, so what's the point of the comparison?
It's hilarious. If you are a black liberal like Sharpton, you can lie, incite violence, slander, and do whatever you want, and John supports and endorses it. The problem with Rush Limbaugh is not what he actually says or does, but the fact that he is white, which in the eyes of racist liberals like John and Al Sharpton, means that he is always wrong.
