Obama Chooses Politics Over Soldier's Lives In Afghanistan

Jennifer Rubin offers some insightful commentary as to what is actually going on here with Obama on Afghanistan. It appears he's considering the absolute worst approach in the interests of political appeasement. No reduction in troops but no increase, either. That means we continue to slowly lose the war and soldiers continue to fight, bleed and die in what the commanding General has pronounced a losing cause given the current numbers of troops on the ground.

If that proves to be his choice, it's as vile as it is incomprehensible. Obama doesn't seem to care about anything but politics and his own hide. This would be a disgrace. An absolute disgrace and a betrayal of the troops under his command. There's no way I can see him getting away with this. Sooner or later this neophyte know nothing has to step up, or be thrown out.

From news reports it appears that the president is close to doing exactly the wrong thing on Afghanistan – searching for a middle ground and trying to run a war on the cheap. As the New York Times describes it, “Mr. Obama seemed to be searching for some sort of middle ground, saying he wanted to ‘dispense with the straw man argument that this is about either doubling down or leaving Afghanistan,’ as White House officials later described his remarks.” This is typical Obama pabulum — both sides are extreme and he, the voice of moderation, will step in to split the difference. But this doesn’t work in a war when the middle ground, as we learned both in Afghanistan and in Iraq, is not a viable option.

He's just waiting for enough bodies to pile up, and eventually the American public will want their children to come home. The Democrats will vote to defund the war effort, and oblameless will be hailed as a pragmatist.

If Obama were a real President, he'd spit in the public's face and do the least politically popular thing possible, then blame any resulting failure on bad things the opposition party said about him.

Why aren't you supporting the war effort, Dan? Don't you know criticizing the President on military matters is a form of treason? Or are you just sad, because you're never again going to see Boy George prancing atop an aircraft carrier proclaiming "Mission Accomplished"?

The wars were lost before they were launched. Elective wars based on an onion of layered lies can yield no victory.

Each day it goes on violates the honor of our troops, and makes a mockery of their oaths to service.

Only conservatives interested in restoring the rule of law are going to bring the GOP back from oblivion. Only war crimes prosecutions can restore honor to our troops.

James, you need to put down the blunt and join the rest of the world. If we pull out of Afghanistan, it is just a matter of time before someone parks a nuke on our soil. What finger-pointing we will see then.
