See the TCOT Report for the latest on Newt's incorrect statements regarding NY - 23. He cleaned up part of the mess but didn't go all the way. I did an NPR interview on NY -23 today for airing tomorrow at 6:40 and 8:40 AM. Not sure how much they'll use, but I did try to correct the record on the residency issue. More on that from the Freepers below. The fact is, if Newt wants to play it straight as a principled guy, he needs to get off the residency thing. As long as he is pushing it as he has been doing, he's operating like your standard disingenuous political hack shilling for Scozzafava. I always respected Newt but he doesn't deserve much slack these days, not as a would be conservative any way - which I am not even sure he still claims to be, or can, frankly. Maybe he's become a CINO, a conservative in name only who is just a Republican in the end?
There were four local GOP meetings in the 23rd district to get feedback on who the party would nominate and ultimately a vote by the eleven county chairs. Dede Scozzafava is an elected state representative from the largest county in the district who understands local issues. Doug Hoffman, who does not live in the district, did not receive a single vote. Scozzafava was ultimately the unanimous choice of the party chairs.*
From a Freeper comment:
Newt cheap-shotted Hoffman on the residence thing. Not even Hoffman's opponents give him a hard time about that.
Hoffman was born and raised in Saranac Lake, in the 23rd district. He now lives in nearby Lake Placid, which was also in the 23rd district until it was gerrymandered out in 2001 to help out a fellow GOP'er in the 20th district.
Hoffman is a native of the area and says he will relocate the few miles necessary to put him back in the district if he's elected.
Newt is now a cheapshot artist among other things.

Sessions (R-TX) has turned around his opinion on Hoffman tonight. He and NRCC have changed their minds.
