I don't know what's more priceless in this short clip via Gawker - Jackson's eyes dropping down marking his displeasure with being called Sharpton, the indignant, scolding manner in which he brought it to the anchor's attention, or her patronizing, almost motherly response in apology.
Oh man.I think his tone knocked her for a loop and she was caught between being testy over his making a big deal out of it, or realize she was playing with offending one of the nation's most notable race baiters. Nah, she wasn't rising to that bait. He sure is arrogant for such an oppressed fellow.
They All Look Alike: MSNBC Mistakes Jesse Jackson for Al Sharpton

Aw, Jesse ought to be forgiving: Contessa Brewer at least didn't mistake him for Gary Coleman.

By using my A. Huffington supersonic ear listening device (able to hear things never spoken)I heard him think while he stared at the floor - "white devil trick baby, but i'd hit it".

This is Barbara Boxer all over again. A condescending liberal white woman assuming that all black people are the same...in a "nice way." I wish they had been in the same room, we would have seen her pet him on top of his head like a dog while she spoke down to him in a "caring" manner. Don't hold it against her... some of her "closest" friends are "African-Americans." I bet in the privacy of her luxury suite, after a few champagnes too many she has actually asked them, "What tribe?"

There is also the possibility that, having nothing to say, the gaffe was a deliberate ploy for attention.

Look at the Comments from the Gawker clip. The Libs are torn as to what the PC response to this is. Can we laugh? Does that make us raaacist? They are in complete agreement that Fox News is the Devils Workshop.

Allow for the possibility that this slight was deliberate. Yeah, it's fun to poke Contessa in the eye, but think about it: love him or hate him, JJ is a known entity. And has been on CNN more times than everybody can count. Think about it.
When you're just one of many lapdogs fighting for space on the same lap, doing a 'special trick' to get a pat on the head [or time on the lap] becomes the norm.
Before the Jackson interview took place, didn't Gloria Borger [CNN] get a special one-on-one interview with Teh One? Why yes she did.
A public gelding for the man who wanted Teh One's nuts?
Quid pro quo in the Era of Teh One?
Hmmmmmm.
