Joe Arpaio Pushes Back On Illegal Immigration Enforcement

When I first noted that the Feds were looking to limit Arpaio's authority to enforce immigration laws, I said there were State's Rights issues involved. Looks like Arpaio noticed that, too.

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) -- An Arizona sheriff known for cracking down on people who are in the country illegally launched a crime and immigration sweep in northwestern metro Phoenix on Friday, a half day after officials in Washington limited his powers to make federal immigration arrests.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, whose sweeps have led to allegations of racial profiling, said the rebuff from Washington won't stop him. He said he can still arrest immigrants under a state smuggling law and a federal law that gives all local police agencies more limited power to detain suspected illegal immigrants.

"It doesn't bother me, because we are going to do the same thing," said Arpaio, whose deputies had arrested 16 people by Friday evening on unspecified charges. "I am the elected sheriff. I don't take orders from the federal government."

One has to wonder why at this point would the Obama admin want to limit the powers of law enforcement in regards to a subject that gets right to the heart of national security? What with so many terror arrests in the news.

The thing that I don't understand is this; say for instance I rob a bank and I speed away from said bank and get caught speeding and then get pulled over, does that mean that I didn't rob the bank? Does that also mean that throwing me in jail, for either violation, wouldn't disrupt my family? Why when it comes to illegal immigration do all of these other factors come into play? Who cares what family will get torn apart?

The first word in illegal immigrant is illegal, it doesn't matter why they were found out, deport them. NOW.

They've made a case out of Arpaio because he gets the job done. That's why he's under the microscope so often.

Compare and contrast how Arizona and California deal with the problem and then ask yourself which state is having the fiscal crisis and why?

Ya gotta love the "it's racial profiling" crap.

Well, DUH. Most of the illegal immigrants in that area are Mexican (not "Hispanic"). I swear PCists love to make people feel bad for using good sense. If my area had Sweedes and the Sherrif were pulling over blond haired, blue eye'd people - they'd be using sense. THAT's who is in the area illegally. Add to that that most of these people don't speak very good English, and voila, ANOTHER sensible indicator that the person is not an American.

That's the insanity of PCism - wrong is right, double plus good is bad on wednesdays, if you believe in the laws of the US you are a "nativist" - but those lefty LIARS never push those same standards on any other country nor culture.

The immigration laws to go to Mexico are insanely more rigorous. You can't even PARTICIPATE in politics, nor own land near the border, - never even consider running for office or lobby legislation.
