One-hundred and thirty thousand dollars in two years for viagra, booze, porn and whatever else. A Detroit liquor store looks to have had its own ideas about a stimulus program. And given that over 45% of Americans don't pay taxes, is it really difficult to understand why the Democrats are able to muster the votes they do for government expansion of this and similar programs? What's most appalling is that a scam like this can go on for two years without detection. Our tax dollars are in the best of hands.
DETROIT (AP) -- Viagra and pornography are not staples on the government's food stamp list. But authorities say a Detroit liquor store supplied them during a series of illegal deals.
Federal prosecutors filed fraud charges this week against three people who worked at Jefferson's Liquor Palace.
The alleged scheme worked this way: Food stamp recipients would get cash from the store in exchange for swiping larger amounts off their electronic cards. The store would then be reimbursed by the U.S. Agriculture Department.
And in some transactions, the government says the store provided informants Viagra, liquor and porn in exchange for swiping about $2,000 off food stamp cards.
The government says fraud at the store topped $130,000 over 2 1/2 years. The store is closed.

Waste, Fraud and abuse.

Viagra requires a prescription. What is a liquor store doing selling it, no matter how it's getting paid for?

This is almost as shocking as David Letterman bullying some intern into boinking in a back room or Nicholas Cage not paying his taxes.... I wonder if one can still get 75 cents on the dollar for food stamps.

"Viagra requires a prescription"
Unless you pay to watch HBO Bill Maher, then you receive all the Viagra you need to get through his impotence.

Steven, when you can order Viagra off the Internet, anyone can sell it. Not to mention that it isn't a Class 1 schedule drug anyway, so it isn't a priority. And finally, I'm not sure what the investigating procedure is for a pharmacy license, but I'm guessing that in Detroit they're available to anyone who pays off the right people in the right amounts.
