DeMint can always be counted upon to show his true conservative colors. That a sitting Republican Senator has split with the GOP on NY - 23... Hmm. Hopefully this otherwise insignificant race (on a national level) fosters some positive discussion and doesn't run on and on as a distraction going into 2010. But the GOP has to listen and respond to make it a serious discussion.
If they don't do that, this could develop into a large split that dooms the GOP's improving prospects for the mid-terms. And that doesn't benefit anyone but the liberals. We need to avoid a game of chicken here and every one needs to step up, air their views and come to some agreement about what the GOP is and isn't willing to be. I have an exclusive in the works that might better inform this story but getting it done and out hasn't been as easy as it should be. I am still working on it, though.
“Too often, we’re told that Republicans have to be like Democrats to be competitive in states like New York, Pennsylvania and Florida. But the truth is voters don’t want to be forced to pick between two liberals; they want a real choice. If voters want to give Washington more control over our lives, they can always vote for Democrats.
