Police have arrested two Connecticut men found with pipe bombs, rifles and a can of propane in their car. The one guy looks to be the same individual involved in a related incident from March. I suspect it's the details in that report that the Left will jump on - see below.
Police in Connecticut say they have arrested two people after stopping a car full of explosives in a New Haven residential neighborhood.
New Haven Officer Joseph Avery says police don't know if the suspects planned to use the explosives, because they're not talking much to investigators.
Police charged 38-year-old John Iannucci of Branford and 27-year-old Jessup Bollinger of New Haven with manufacture of bombs, illegal possession of explosives and other charges.
From March 2009: Same age, same location. He claimed to have just been altering fireworks gotten while attending a Christian show and to be from a LE enforcement family and a solid Christian. Strange hobby for such a fellow, they don't usually make bombs.
“I bought fireworks in Pennsylvania last June for the 4th of July when I was there for a Christian show. I sing in a Baptist church in West Haven, solos and with the choir,” he said. “It was not a bomb. It was a hand-throwable firework.”
Iannucci admitted he altered the fireworks to make them launchable, but felt he was not doing anything illegal. He said the fireworks were in his car because he was transporting them to dispose of them.
Shockwaves were sent through one East Haven man’s life when fireworks he was carrying in his vehicle ignited accidently sending police into an extensive investigation.
On Feb. 26, East Haven police were called “to investigate the report of a suspicious device that detonated inside a vehicle causing injuries to the sole occupant,” stated Lt. Joseph Slane. “The incident occurred at approximately 7:48 p.m. when the operator was turning onto Grannis Street from North High Street.”
The operator of the vehicle, John Iannucci, 38, of 5 Ann Street received injuries to his hands and torso, police said. He was transported to the Yale Shoreline Medical Center in Guilford for treatment.
According to Slane, officers visited Iannucci at the hospital as part of their investigation, and then proceeded to Iannucci’s residence on Friday, Feb. 27.
“During the search of the residence, officers located items used by Iannucci to modify smoke bombs,” Slane said.
“No arrest was made at this time,” Slane added. “The department is looking into the legality of possessing such items and determining what charges may be filed.”
Iannucci said he regrets what happen and that the incident was just an unfortunate accident that’s now disrupting his life and family.
“I threw a cigarette out the window and it came back in and somehow set one of the fireworks off,” Iannicci said.
Iannucci was shocked by the number of authorities that showed up to search his home, including the FBI.
“I’m no bomb-maker. I grew up with law enforcement in the family. My father was a police officer,” he said.
