Not a bad idea to look back to Chicago - let's face it, a basically corrupt, failed school system - as that's where the current WH political machine cut its teeth, including on matters involving education. There's a long history of condescending attitudes towards parents, while also manipulating students for political gain.
The Examiner has an item up on that today.
There's a very good reason to be concerned that the Obama administration might attempt to indoctrinate school children or use public schools and students as political props: when Duncan was the Superintendent of Chicago public schools, he did exactly that. In June 2008, for instance, the Chicago public school district used over 1200 buses and drivers to bus a reported 30,000 students from all over the city to Soldier Field, where they were allowed to watch a free performance by area musicians like rapper "Ben One." The catch? The performance was part of a political rally.
But then, as Newsbusters points out - many liberals don't believe people are smart enough to raise their own kids. We may have parenting issues in the US, but I suspect many of those stem from constituencies already supportive of Obama, unfortunately. Instead, this WH seems to believe it's the other way around. If you aren't willing to turn your children's education over to liberals and union heads, how can you possibly claim to be bright enough?
No wonder some parents are telling the WH to kiss off - and keep their hands off their children while they're at it.
The kicker so far today? John Harwood seems to feel he is more qualified to raise the children of parents who object to the Obama speech than those parents are. Those parents aren't smart enough....oh and are also racist.
Now, via Michelle Malkin, we find Nickelodeon is joining in? Parents should be less than amused at all this.
Well, they’re at it again, along with liberal philanthropists, bloggers, and the Viacom conglomerate — launching a new initiative in conjunction with President Obama’s education campaign:

Camille Paglia takes everyone to task, Mark Levin's book mentioned.
"An example of the provincial amateurism of current White House operations was the way the president's innocuous back-to-school pep talk got sandbagged by imbecilic support materials soliciting students to write fantasy letters to "help" the president (a coercive directive quickly withdrawn under pressure). Even worse, the entire project was stupidly scheduled to conflict with the busy opening days of class this week, when harried teachers already have their hands full. Comically, some major school districts, including New York City, were not even open yet. And this is the gang who wants to revamp national healthcare? "

I noticed he said that kids need to be careful about what they say on facebook and the like. Guess he was thinking about his bud, Van Jones. LOL
