Andy Sullivan: "Dreher whacks Limbaugh; Goldblog(sic) whacks Drudge. Conor echoes" (Ed Note: I hope Andy isn't accusing Conor of not having an original thought). Finally, Megan McArdle wants her piece of the fun, though I'm completely confident there will be more, including on the Right.
Limbaugh Hits a New Low
What's most disturbing to me in all this is that these people are supposed to be like toothpaste: ultra-bright. Assuming they are, they must have some form of blinder on. Whenever a Limbaugh or a Levin says something, their intellects seem to abandon them completely. Either that, or they simply aren't as bright as they would have us believe.
They can interpret literature, poetry, theology, all manner of prose, but let a Right-side talking head say something and they look like petulant school children utterly confused by the encounter with their first serious book.
I love the "real" bit below from Andy, as if he has a prayer of representing himself as an authority on conservatism in America any more.
Dreher reveals the conscience of a real conservative
So, what are they missing due to these blinders, or whatever it is they're wearing? Let's take a look via Rush. The fact is, Rush's criticism isn't even directed toward some black kids, or blacks, on a bus, or anywhere else for that matter.
RUSH: Hey, look, folks, the white kid on that bus in Belleville, Illinois, he deserved to be beat up. You don't know about this story? Oh, there's video of this. The school bus filled with mostly black students beat up a white student a couple of times with all the black students cheering. Of course the white student on the bus deserved the beating. He was born a racist. That's what Newsweek magazine told us in its most recent cover. It's Obama's America, is it not? Obama's America, white kids getting beat up on school buses now. You put your kids on a school bus, you expect safety but in Obama's America the white kids now get beat up with the black kids cheering, "Yay, right on, right on, right on, right on," and, of course, everybody says the white kid deserved it, he was born a racist, he's white. Newsweek magazine told us this. We know that white students are destroying civility on buses, white students destroying civility in classrooms all over America, white congressmen destroying civility in the House of Representatives.
We can redistribute students while we redistribute their parents' wealth. We can redistribute everything. Just return the white students to their rightful place, their own bus with bars on the windows and armed guards. They're racists. They get what they deserve. Newsweek magazine told us this, post-racial America. I wonder if Obama is going to come to the defense the assailants the way he did his friend Skip Gates up there at Harvard. I mean the assailants are presumed innocent due to the white racism we all know runs rampant in America. The Drive-By Media is ginning up all this criticism of Obama. Again today it's all based in racism, the criticism of Obama's health care plan or whatever, it's all based in racism and so, if he's going to apologize for America, Obama needs to apologize for the right reasons. White Americans are racists who have created what they call free markets that really just enslave the rest of America and her trading partners. It was white Americans that ran off Van Jones.
Rush isn't maligning blacks. He is critiquing Newsweek Magazine and the media culture as a whole for pushing the whole whites are racist meme. And he's pointing the finger right back at Obama who, in many ways, is complicit in the whole thing. I understood that the first time I read it.
But not the best and brightest of the Atlantic. Oh no. Rush tripped a third rail for them - he talked about race, using the bus incident as simply an example to make a broader point because it was in the news. But don't try and tell that to the rocket scientists of the would be media elite. It was Rush Limbaugh, he must be wrong. In fact, he must be a racist!! I know because I read it in Newsweek Magazine!
They are, in essence, ignoramuses, trapped in prisons of political correctness in which there are certain things they just can't have, or understand, let alone tolerate. And a white male conservative even mentioning black people in the news while making a broader socio-political point and media critique most likely tops the list. But they're the smart ones. Don't waste your time trying to convince them that they're wrong. If anything, they are the very by-product of everything Rush was actually taking on.

pulled an all nighter and still going - so I'll call first and just say that these people just dont understand, the more they say rush the more his ratings rush to the top;http://tinyurl.com/lqxss8. keep it up guys you are making him even more popular.

"Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?" Obama's minions repeatedly ask on his behalf.

Congress is working on a bill co-sponsored by Pelosi that will require that the employment of any irony in the media will:
1) Receive the prior permission for the use of irony from the "Queen of Funny" Nancy Pelosi.
2) Warn the reader/listener/viewer in advance with a required 30-second warning of the upcoming use of irony, allowing the average irony-impaired progressive individual to either brace for a moment of difficult, reality-inverted thinking, or to flee the irony-laden environment prior to its presence.

The Corruptocrats are desperate, they have come up with an epic failure and they know it.
They have tried everything to save themselves and their agenda-from calling everyone who opposes it a racist to beating people up. All that has served to do is to throw gasoline on the fire that is burning their own house down. Not a very smart move.
Now they are trying to destroy those who are shining the light in on the cockroach motel that is the Corruptocrat party and it's minions. They are using all the tools that have worked for them before-The Race Card, arrogant dismissals, sleazy innuendos, etc. Unfortunately for them they are not smart as they think they are. The people of this country are beginning to see these kinds of liberal elitist attacks for exactly what they are and they aren't buying them anymore-in fact it is only serving to make people more angry at them and to throw more gasoline on the fire.

Goodness, the comments to Megan McArdle's little piece of tripe are funnyyyy...the WLGT (White Lib Guilt Trip) is massive...these useful idiots obviously have no clues how dangerous their little bubble world is and no clue as to the rate of B on W crime in their neigborhoods! Lambs to Slaughter, they will not even defend themselves!

Did you see the video of the Belleville bus incident ? I was beaten in a similar manner 45 years ago in a totally random attack at a public pool dressing room. An older black boy bloodied my face while his friends laughed and cheered. Totally random. My buddy had to sit quietly and hope the same did not happen to him. Years later, the same thing happened to my son at middle school when some bussed in black kids wanted to humiliate him. But to the MSM, this kind of racist attack by blacks never happens. Like Van Jones says, "It's all lies and distortion." Watch ACORN file a lawsuit against Fox News and the filmmaker who busted them, claiming it is all a "racist conspiracy." Olbermann and Maddow will be all for it. MSNBC is as bad as Pravda ever was. They even sell Obama action figures and T-shirts (with Obama posed like a 3rd world 'President for Life'). I guess this all makes me a racist. Oh, well.

I think all of these claims of racism by the left is going to backfire on them...Obama was elected by and large by independents who were sick of Bush and his brand of governance...they wanted a change and so they took a risk that Obama was what he presented himself as--a centrist black man who did not buy into the Al Sharpton school of race baiting.
I would suspect that indepedents, especially independent white voters, are going to be pretty sick of every single thing that is critical of Obama being called racist by 2012.
It's also not a bad thing maybe that the double standard on race that exists in the media has now become so blatant that a lot of people who never noticed it in the past will see it for what it is now.

I forwarded a link to Megan's drool-stained post. The subject line of my email? "Megan brings on the stupid."
You what I think is most reprehensible about her post? I don't for a minute believe Ms McArdle actually thinks this. It's just another way for her to establish her urban, elitist bonafides.

Ya Dan, thats my take of the rush mans comment too. All about newsWEAK and making a point. But I guess these wrong sided right side folk just dont get simple anymore. Everything they see has some kind of nuance and they must figure that out. In the caves they live in obviously.

"I think all of these claims of racism by the left is going to backfire on them..."
I think it is the only bullet the left has had in their gun for quite some time. They have been firing wildly since the first tea party protests.
rassmussen numbers from 19 august...
is the issue "very important":
Economy 86%
Gov't Ethics/Corruption 80%
Health Care 72%
Taxes 63%
Nat'l Security/War on Terror 61%
Social Security 61%
Immigration 59%
Education 58%
Abortion 44%
War In Iraq 43%
The ONLY issue the wh has been running on for months is Healthcare, and they are polling badly. none of the issues left are popular, defensible, or coherent.
I won't bother with reading dreher, et al, to anticipate that they are apporaching the limbaugh issue in a rather gestaltist view. Limbaugh's discussion in a not a 'call to cause' but only an effect of individuals in the msm, lobbing the 'racist grenades'. Limbaugh got caught throwing them back out of his window, and the media takes a picture:
Limbaugh throwing grenades out his window...
This whole affair centers around a wh desperately trying to stop their freefall.
They are losing on the economy, they are losing on Afghanistan, they are losing on unemployment, taxes...
For now, they have slowed the bleeding, obscuring the discussion away from the issues which plague the country AND the presidency by pushing one single meme'...
Barack Obama is black. This is the poorest of attempts to prop the admin up on their single most successful character recommendation during his campaign. A wh presser commonly features 2-4 topics of interest. If gibbs is answering a question about racism, they win, for the time being.
unless the msm can explain any oppostion to obama's policies, with a veneer of racism, this wh sinks into oblivion.
Even now they are at the high-water mark of where this theme will keep them. Using the racism label will bring only temporary relief, much as the libs would interpret the effects of questioning the left's patriotism. The well runs dry, especially if you are using it to mask unpopular decisions. It has worked, thus far, if only to stop the fall, but there is a certain eventuality...
once an individual makes the 'leap of faith' that the media and the wh are using racism as a charge to deflect their own failures, the genie doesn't go back in the bottle.

“I have concerns about some of the language that is being used because I saw … I saw this myself in the late '70s in San Francisco,” Pelosi said, choking up and with tears forming in her eyes. “This kind of rhetoric is just, is really frightening and it created a climate in which we, violence took place and … I wish that we would all, again, curb our enthusiasm in some of the statements that are made.”
-nancy pelosi.
This is a thinly veiled reference to the murder of harvey milk/1978. Still trying to figure out if the crocodile tears are seeking to evoke sympathy for milk, or for the foreboding dread that the same fate may befall the messiah.
Video didn't capture any lacrimal dispensations...is it possible with that much botox?
rather a strange pairing to make...the wh hasn't exactly been endearing themselves with the homosexual community. A sliver of the wh's declining poll numbers are actually people from the gay and lesbain community, who have started to figure out that black liberation theology and homosexuality are inconsistent with each other. The messiah didn't spend the past 20 years in the bath houses, he was in the pews of wright's church.
