These are some serious people calling Sarah Palin a "global heavyweight". I imagine that will stick in the Leftist's collective crawl.
I like what little bits I've seen of Sarah Palin as a potential political figure, though I've no idea what, if any, prominent path she may be choosing for herself. That said, some words of advice for the serious Palinistas talking about Meg Stapleton's Facebook page to know Sarah's schedule back in that thread.
Given the serious challenges conservatives face, I'm not interested in amateur hour, no matter how bright any conservative star might seem. This story has been out there for 24 hours now according to the AP. It's neither been confirmed, nor denied, which is absolutely fine by me.
But it had better be confirmed and they simply weren't going on the record for whatever reason at this point. Any would be prominent figure that allows a bogus story to fly across the AP and go not knocked down within 24 hrs doesn't have the people around them to be successful. So, I'm assuming this is legit at this point. And anything else isn't going to fly.
This ain't Wasilla, folks. And I could give a flip about Meg Stapleton's Facebook page.
HONG KONG — One of Asia's top investment houses touted Sarah Palin Tuesday as a global heavyweight ahead of the former US vice presidential nominee's first public speaking engagement outside North America.
The former Alaska governor will be the keynote speaker at an annual conference bringing hundreds of chief executives, fund managers and other financial big-hitters from around the world to Hong Kong this month.
Palin, ridiculed during last year's presidential campaign for her lack of experience in international affairs, is due to speak at the CLSA Investors' Forum on September 23.
Past speakers at the yearly event hosted by brokerage and investment group CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets include former US president Bill Clinton, Clinton's vice president Al Gore, and ex-Federal Reserve chief Alan Greenspan.
"We like to present to our investors people of significant public profile who can present a view on what is happening globally and geopolitically," CLSA spokeswoman Simone Wheeler told AFP.

Oh please! Trying to push the "She's not experienced enough" angle is sooooooo overdone. The bumble head we have in office is proof enough he was an idiot in a pretty suit that could not run himself out of a paperbag.
Besides the fact, I seriously do not think she has any inkling to run in 2012. My GOD, who in their right mind would want to. Obama is going to rip this country to shreds by the end of his first term, that it is going to take at least 10 years to clean up. I hate to say it, but our next president will be the "rebound" president that will get blamed again for the messes of his or her successor. I would not be surprised if the GOP would secretly want a moderate democrat in there to start the recovery for them.
Is that what I want to happen, NO WAY, but it just might be the reality.
Governor Palin will do just fine if she waits another four to eight years, but not because of lack of experience. On the contrary, it is quite the opposite. She is a lot smarter than anyone cares to give her credit for, and exponentially smarter than obamacorn is.

Aren't you forgetting the main trait of the true believer, that the more you deny the more it serves to confirm their belief?
Let Palin show us what she's made of, and let her detractors blither and bitch. Better a demonstration of ability than a denial of incompetence.

Dan, Sarah Palin signed with the Washington Speakers Bureau, as reported by Mike Allen at Politico Monday. The Bureau is Palin's exclusive agent for all speaking engagements as of yesterday. One could reasonably assume that questions concerning Palin's reported Asian speech should be directed to the Bureau, not Meghan Stapleton.

You're dead on with your comments. If it's true then make it true by saying it is true, if not, then shoot it down.
To blame the organizations, is simple hurting Sarah. It puts her on the defensive argument.
What is troubling right now, is what PetroChina has done with investing in the Wetsern Canada.
That dovetails Soros pulling millions out of ConocoPhillips who is invested in the Denali project. And the FERC application for the Denali project being put on hold for another year.
If Al Gore (coffee anyone), Clinton, (his "http://www.clintonglobalinitiative.org/) and Asia are involved with this organization, I'd stay away from this organization...
Posted by: Tom Lamb | Tuesday, September 01, 2009 at 06:52 AM
I read that, Josh. But that's not really relevant to my point. I'm also not necessarily criticizing Palin at all. Obviously this organization, which has a more substantial reputation than that recent group in Alaska, is putting word out that she's speaking there. All I'm saying is, I'm assuming it's the case, as there's been no denial in 24 hours. That idiot Jules up there apprently doesn't even understand a simple point.
Jaysus, if I ever become that disconnected from reality over any potential politician, just shoot me now and end my pain.

One blogger ran the story under the headline: Sarah Palin Can See the Lefts Heads Explode From Her House.
That is about right. The story of Palin receiving 950 invitations to speak, and 120 invitations to campaign for other politicians is great news. I guess those folks didn't get Axelrod's memo that she is "unpopular, unimportant, and finished."

If she does go and speaks then we'll see what she believes. The previous list of guest speakers are anti-American hacks. I really like Mrs. Palin. As of late I've been battling some kind of political purity mentality. I know it's impossible to agree with a candidate on everything or is it?
Dan, what's your take on SarahPAC's giving money to the likes of McCain and Graham? It really bothered me. Honestly, I'm of the mindset of being politically ruthless right now. Go after the top progressives running next year and campaign for the most hardcore pro-Constitution American. I want fire breathers not Graham, McCain, Hatch. C'mon!
I believe we're living in one of the most dangerous times in our history but I feel many of our leaders aren't acting that way. They're treating it like any other election cycle. "Ah, Obama's just another Carter!". Carter's traitorous ass looks likes Jefferson compared to Obama.
We need Samuel Adams and Patrick Henry not Graham and McCain.

"If she does go and speaks then we'll see what she believes."
Unfortunately, if she attends, it's closed to the press. So, anything we get will be third hand by the time it hits the press.
As for McCain and Graham, look I hear you, but think about it for a minute. McCain did pick her. We would hardly be reading about her had he not. And Graham is a buddy of McCain's and was also close to the campaign, of which she was also a part.
Maybe it's her side of healing old wounds, maybe it's just payback for his picking her and staying the course. I'm not sure I've ever heard Graham involved in running her down.
I'm with you on what we want to see happen with the GOP. But Reagan didn't mount his revolution without playing some ball with the forces that were. There's a bigger picture here. So, I'm not going to get too worked up about what she did. Could be she was just paying back a debt of which we might not even be aware.

Foreign experience does matter, and that's why the international community would like to know more about her. They'll probably be dealing with her in the future.

USMC, while SarahPAC has donated to the likes of McCain, Graham, Hatch and Murkowski, it has also contributed to Bachmann, Blackburn, McDonnell and Portman. So she has directed funds to four squishes and four fairly solid conservatives. Dan may have a point about paybacks that we may not be aware of. I haven't been able to confirm it yet, but I have heard that the four moderates each made start-up donations to SarahPAC. No, I don't understand the logic of politicians scratching each others' backs by exchanging PAC money in this manner. It may be some kind of dues money to get the support of inside the Beltway types that is needed when one of them makes a run for the GOP presidential nomination, but that's just my best guess.

My only worry with the donations is that washington will corrrupt yet another outside force. Reagan for all his greatness still had to "play ball" with the insiders. and because of that we got amnesty with no border security (thanks Teddy!) We got an win in the cold war yet a major debt. I guess it is always a worry when an outsider starts playing with the insiders...There is always a risk that the insiders will co-op the outsider.
If Palin allows that to happen she is finished in politics. Her major draw atm is she is not part of the problems and her solutions to those problems take age-old advice from the smartest people in history, our founders, to solve those problems. she should try hard to avoid any connection to those present idiots in DC as possible.

It is important to have a coalition in place, to affect change. She wanted to show her appreciation for McCain and Graham, mend fences
with the state party, but this next set of recipients, notably Bachman, McDonnell, is more her style

"this ain't Wasilla"
No it ain't, it's a country where a third of its citizens feel disenfranchised. The GOP, knowing there ass was about to be handed to them threw away an election with a feeble, vainglorius valedictory.
Their favorite for the next walkover is a Catholic-turned-Mormon who's signal accomplishments are a crappy Winter Olympics and Massachussets Health Care, about to turn-a-crapper.
Ten million or so of the aforementioned voters now know mailing it in cost their children and grandchildren the fruit of their labor and love. But if you think they'll be turning to you now, for wisdom and guidance you are a bigger fool than they.

"but this next set of recipients, notably Bachman, McDonnell, is more her style" -- thebishop
I had high hopes for Sarah Palin, not knowing enough about her.
But Bachmann? I even see her fans on Facebook all excited about palin/Bachmann 2012!
The two are incomparable from my point of view. Bachmann has always been a loon as long as I've known about her. Palin, on the other hand, actually managed to do the weirdest thing. She went from being an OK governor according to moderates and even some liberals in her state while hated by the good ol' boys who dominate the state to being outed for her true McCarthyite feelings, her history of scandals, and her illiteracy/incompetency while VP candidate, and now she is loved by ultra-fundies everywhere and laughed at by the Left. I don't think we'll ever see someone rise, wriggle, and fall flat on her face so fast and hard in national politics again.

Is there a place for Republicans who see through Palin, who do NOT support Palin because Liberals are NOT the only ones who do NOT support Sarah IT'S EVERYBODY'S FAULT BUT MINE Palin....call a BWAHHHHHAMBULANCE for this lady.
I've seen hucksters before and this tapdancing vaudeville act called Sarah Palin is one.
Palin has an excuse for everything. Couric did this, Hillary didn't do that, look at my baby, don't look at my baby, the evil liberal media ate my baby....
I am sorry I don't buy it...the lady SELLS that is VERY true, but we don;t ALL have to buy it.
Posted by: DEO | Tuesday, September 01, 2009 at 11:38 AM
You bought Obama right, you're willing to follow the speculation of the site of the
stock inflater Henry Blodgett, without any
facts what so ever. Then again, they bought the lunacy that Griffin was paid to market. There's virtually no critique that has been presented about her record, that doesn't have large dollops of falsehood.

45%.

The two situations are no where the same, Obama has enjoyed the most lenient media environment in a generation, yet he's still falling like
a rock, mostly because the economic conditions
have served an albatross around his neck.

The problem is that he is pursuing the opposite of the successful policies we were following back in 1983, after the downturn

That must be one comfy chair in the lobby Dan because pyous just cant get his tookus out of it lately. And isnt pissing on reagan so last century dude?
Oh,right, making the comparison as to failed presidencies. I seem to remember about 50 million or so east block folk who would beg to disagree with you but of course thats also so last century.

dopey factoid: Palin and Glenn Beck have same birthday(okay close).
Her run will enable Obama's reelection. I like her, but they've polarized and damaged her, making her distasteful to many Americans. Her ambitiousness, like Perot's vanity, may be blinding. I think she's Glenn's third party splitter.

Dan, JP thanks for the posts and some good thoughts to ponder. What really troubles me is many even on the right think this is politics as usual. Man, there's some serious crap over the horizon. I gotta feeling a massive terror attack if not out and out war here on the streets from jihadis.
The progressive's biggest weakness is appeasement. They view our enemies as friends and/or feel sympathy. Meanwhile they view us as enemies and act accordingly. These distractions from their divinely ordained duty of protecting the people they are inviting a vicious enemy that smells blood.
This Nation has elected a guy with an Islamic name and Islamic sympathies. He's addressed all their grievances and then some. If I were a terrorist, well according to Organize for America and the DHS I am, I would see this as a surrender and weakening of will. They will come if not here already.
Posted by: USMC | Tuesday, September 01, 2009 at 06:25 PM
USMC's point is dead on. The terr's will come. They can't help themselves. They are drawn to weak leaders like flies to a lightbulb, and Obama wants out of Afghanistan desperately-he reeks of weakness.
As to Palin-one of her problems right now is that she is immersed with her ghostwriter writing her book. That takes her away from the action. So, a lot of react is left up to the deeply feckless Meg Stapleton.
Naturally, we are wondering whether or not this has been confirmed or not. Naturally, there has been nothing out of Meg. Of course. She'll wait until the last minute until stating categorically that Sarah can't go.
If Meg ever gets a job with a major campaign again, someone please tell me. A candidate run by her couldn't beat Josef Mengele in a race for Mayor of Haifa. The woman screwed up the Simi Valley thing royally, and made Sarah look like a heel. She should have been fired then.
As I said to Josh Painter, Palin's distrust of the political class in D.C., while warrented, has left her depending on people who would have trouble handling a city council race in Wasilla.
Posted by: section9 | Tuesday, September 01, 2009 at 08:03 PM
Well, bite my freakin' tongue if the Megster didn't just confirm!
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Should've happened yesterday, but that's all right. Now all the Chinee can make their mukaluk jokes about Caribou Barbee!
